Sorry, not an excuse. Flat out. Stop trying to “it was a different time” for a guy who was defending those positions as late as last week! I mean, “it was a different time” is never an excuse honestly, because there were always people in that “different time” who didn’t have those racist, homophobic, and misogynistic views!

You know who has also been involved politics for 40-50 years and didn’t have that racist, homophobic, misogynistic past? Bernie. Fucking. Sanders.

He was on the side of LGBTQ people in the 80’s while Biden was against gay rights until 2011 when a majority of country was on our side.

On the side of safe and legal abortion before Roe v Wade made it legal, while Biden was the only Democratic Senator to vote for a bill to allow states to make abortion illegal in 1982.

Bernie was involved in the fight for Civil Rights, while Joe Biden was in the Senate trying to keep schools in the north from being integrated through busing and championed the 94 Crime Bill so he could “lock those people up”

There’s a reason we keep saying the reactionaries today are “on the wrong side of history.” It’s because they were wrong now just as Biden was then even if he tries to pretend he wasn’t.

the fourth of july is a stupid and colonized holiday. did you know that indigenous americans weren’t considered american citizens until 1924? did you know that indigenous americans couldn’t VOTE until 1965? white people of america celebrate this false independence in a country that was never theirs in the first place. indigenous people were uprooted from their homes and their ideals and forced into a system that didn’t even recognize them as people until about 58 years ago.
