Need Sooyoung to remember she's a Japanese idol again
Look I'm super casual with NCT but I do understand their popularity. That being said, I don't think that popularity can be transferred to a western Christian audience. There is a reason Christian music has its own awards and metrics (it's because it doesn't do well commercially and hasn't since at least the 60's)
I wish Mark all the best but I don't think he'll have the traction he's expecting. Especially right now when people in the states are very weary and untrusting of the Christian religion as a whole.
I agree with you about religion not trending in America/Canada, but his company (Upper Room) is in Seoul, not NY or CA (I point those two American states out because they are the most popular/used for music production). I think religion popularity is only 'slightly higher' (very marginal) in South Korea than America/Canada, and not by much (many more Buddhists than other religions from things I have read about South Korea). And Mark has said he just wants to make his own music. Having the freedom to create his own stuff might be a priority much higher than just being popular. Well, I know it is, he said as much from his 'goodbye' letter as he was leaving SM and NCT. One more thing: his YouTube channel's video for his company was much less religious-leaning than the Upper Room company's IG, so he must be aware of this (aka he's not in some bubble) and is splitting it up to gauge public reaction (IG Upper Room: religious-leaning made obvious. YouTube Upper Room/Mark Lee: less obvious religious references, right now as of the first video posted on June 4th 2026, 109k subs). He second-guesses a lot, which is why the decision to leave was a break-through/mental win for a guy like him, not because he wants to be #1, he has been #1 for years, even without getting awards every time, he was highly praised for 10+ years, even predebut. He is just now being allowed to be 'normal'. He was the most 'normal, down-to-earth' person at that World Environment Day event, not even wearing a suit. Singing a song he wrote about his career path while in Kenya, looking at animals. And a lion stood out to him for some reason. With all that said, I don't know what genres he's going for (I can't even 100% say he won't do religious music, even after my other rant to someone else. The online embarrassment of being wrong.) IDK. I'm merely a fan of NCT + Mark, following Mark's career.
I'm all for him making music he wants to make, I'm just super suspicious/concerned of anyone branding (which is what he's doing by explicitly stating it's a Christian company) themselves and their company as Christian in the big year of 2026 in the current global climate. Do I think he's going to rebrand as a gospel or Christian artist? No, probably not, but he will loose fans and some people just won't engage with it because of the tonal shift (he's definitely not doing stuff like Sticker or 2 Baddies anymore).
While he'll probably maintain his domestic audience, he will certainly struggle with his global audience. I only bring up the global audience because that's the current market for kpop. Most of the big 4 have been focused on the global market and that promotion trend has definitely trickled down to the mid-tier companies as a metric for success.
All of that coupled with the fact that he no longer has ties to SM or NCT, I think he'll suffer most from lack of interest. Also, this is me being super presumptuous cause he hasn't even put out new music yet for me to fully understand his new direction.
Anytime anyone has tried to mix religion with politics or business it always gets messy. Always. I'd also like to know who his company investors are. If I knew that, it would give me a much clearer picture of what he's up to and the people behind him.

Underrated bop of the day is "Lost In Proof" by HEART OF WOMAN!
They're gaining some attention with their debut, as they should. I hope they can get a music show win pretty quickly!
I.O.I came back to us 🥹🥹🥹
They should've had a showcase stage, but at least they had so much fun and you could tell. They had the biggest smiles and looked happy and healthy. As a fan that's all I can really ask for after so long. Maybe next time we get the full group comeback 🤞
the fandom agrees we’ll never rally to put taemin in a series because his achilles heel is acting (with all his talents, he has to be bad at something) but hear me out. moulin rouge cabaret slash burlesque dancer!taemin
SHINee scheduling their comeback for the exact start of pride month is so them, everyone who knows will know i’m screaming

"I survived the RV 2024-26 hiatus"
Babes this is the new norm for full group promotions now. Wendy and Yeri don't have contracts, so SM is under no obligation to work with them.
As a Sone and Reveluv; Get used to waiting
P.S. like clockwork whenever SM fucks up, Red Velvet have a comeback. So keep praying on that company's downfall and we may get more comebacks 🤭
You don't understand. This is actually crazy. In all my years of listening to kpop, this has never happened. Holland and Xlov haven't even done promo like this. Incredibly bold. Thank you I.O.I
