Takamine Hideko in Karumen junjōsu (Carmen's Innocent Love) 1952
On December 5, 2012 Kinoshita Keisuke would have turned 100 years old. Shociku has planned a huge celebration spanning from screenings, exhibitions, lectures, dvd remasters, blu-ray releases and more. I myself don't live in Japan and will be missing out on a lot of the celebration, but their website has a lot of nice pages on Kinoshita and his films, I highly recommend anyone who has been watching his films on Hulu or any other way check this out. I'm working on translating the myself but my Japanese is beginners at best. Regardless Kinoshita is a grossly under appreciated director outside of his homeland and deserves in my humble opinion a very nice English subtitled DVD collection.
Just as a reminder. Hulu Plus members have access to over 240 Japanese films through the Criterion Collection. As a lover of Japanese film it might very well be the best investment I ever made.
