“Why didn’t you fight for me?” Nancy repeated. She tried to keep a brave face through her question, but she could feel her walls coming down the longer she was with Chuck. He had that effect on her. He always knew how to soften her, something she used to love, but wished she could overcome this once. Nancy looked down at their hands together, she missed this. Nancy missed every feeling she had when she was near him and how just by one touch he could take all her nerves away. But what his apology enough to believe he changed? Was his words strong enough to make her fall back for him again? Probably, but Nancy was fighting within herself to not fall for it. “I miss that boy,” was all she could manage amongst all her thoughts. She was being pulled. At least while she was away, Nancy didn’t have to worry about if Chuck was true to her or not, she just knew he had done her wrong; but now that she was here in this moment––looking him in the eyes––she had to make a decision. Did the distance make her heart grow fonder or had she moved on? Nancy knew she hadn’t moved on, she’d probably never get over Chuck, but that didn’t mean she was ready to jump head first into his arms either.
Nancy’s head tilted up with his movements, her kind brown eyes matching with his. Her smile only stayed as he recollected the memory. “You always liked me in yellow,” Nancy spoke softly. She couldn’t believe he remembered any of that. Nancy thought to Chuck it was just another one of their conversations, but for Nancy it was one of the first times she admitted wanting to be with him forever. Much like most girls their age, Nancy dreamed of her perfect wedding and her perfect dress, but unlike her peers she knew exactly who she wanted to meet her a the end of aisle. “April is one of the sunniest times in Riverdale and I always loved how the sun made your eyes shine whenever we’d be outside. We’d go on somewhere warm, but with a lot of open space so you’d still be able to get some practice in and I could pick the flowers,” Nancy added to the memory with a smile. “I… I just need,” Nancy paused. She didn’t actually know what she needed. She was just pushing him away out of fear of being hurt again, but she wouldn’t be able to move on after hearing all of this. Not knowing chuck still loved Nancy. “I’m just making excuses…”
"I can't give you the answer that you'd like to hear, Nancy." he sighed, he didn't have an explantation for why he let her go so easily. At least not one that would better the situation they were in currently. "I just, I knew you were dealing with so much that you weren't talking to me about and part of me felt like you were pushing me away. I didn't want to add to the stress." Chuck finally began to hint at the elephant in the room, his eyes dropping to her collarbones, the indents much deeper than before. He did not spend too much time staring at Nancy's channges, though his stomach did flips at the thought of what she could be doing to herself. He could tell she was different, they both were. Though the yearn to be different together did not cease at all. He was willing to try hs very hardest to be with Nancy again, as there was no doubt in his mind that they had the purest form of love.
Giving her a feeble smile, his stream of tears slowing down as they spoke of the past. "You look beautiful in yellow." he spoke simply, meaning his words entirely. His hands held onto hers, the grip tightening a little as he listened to her speak about one of the happiest times in his life. As football became less of a hobby and more of a career choice, Chuck rememered how much he'd be heckled by his fellow bulldogs. while he was like a puppy in love, the guys around him spoke poorly, taunting the way he gave every bit of love to Nancy. At first he went unbothered, not at all interested in those who spoke ill of Nancy. Though, as time went on things began to change as the disinterest turned to anger. Those like Jason Blossom and Reggie Mantle began to question the loyalty he had to the team they were on together. The pressure began to pile on from all sides, at home, at school, everywhere. Chuck didn't know if he could ever admit that to Nancy, but it was the truth. He let go, and it was his biggest regret. " so stop making excuses.. give in. " He let go of her hands, unsure of what was coming over him. With one hand sat gently on her knee, the other went up to push a few stray curls from her face. His eyes locked on hers, he gently laid a palm against her cheek. With a short inhale he leaned in, allowing their lips to touch. The kiss was chaste, but oh so sweet. Something he didn't realize he missed so badly until he had it again.
