If there aren’t a bunch of other yous running around on an island or something…that means you didn’t bother splitting the timelines. You just. Split yourself. Didn’t you?!” she accuses him, and she’s not mad at the villain here, this has nothing to do with him. Only Gyro.

Gyro winces at the accusation, because he knows it’s true. It was something Mad Ducktor had also despised, seeing his tether to existence fray more and more, slowly killing himself for a man who barely acknowledged the things he did for him.

“Yes. Yes, I did.” He admits, because he’s not here to lie. “So many times, until it got to the point... where I couldn’t, anymore.”

He remembers, too well, from both points of view. He remembers the grief, the pain of each failed attempt to go back. He remembers seeing Paperinik’s body, from two different angles. Sobbing into his lifeless chest-- seeing Gyro sobbing into his lifeless chest. Being broken, too shattered by grief and pain to notice when the watch was taken. Debating just destroying the damn thing and being done with it. But he didn’t.

“He died again, because of course he did. I tried to go back, it only hurt me. I tried again, and again, and it kept failing, only giving me a shock for my trouble. Until I just... gave up. Then... he came along. Took the watch... and went back.”
