this might be the coldest take ever, but the reason why the pitt has actually popular straight ships is because it has really deeply well written female characters that have interesting, not romantic/sexual, relationships and dynamics with male characters
Frank Langdon went to the ambulance bay to find Mel King specifically to flirt with her.

what the break room scene tells us about Mel and Frank:
They're not just competent coworkers. They're part of each other's actual support system.
For Frank: It’s the way he didn't just end the conversation once he got reassurance from Mel about the case that could've (but didn't, she reminds him) go wrong. He started off venting about missing the pneumothorax which is reasonable enough, but actually felt safe enough to continue being vulnerable. Besides Dana, he's only admitted to the weight on his shoulders—disappointing Robby—which shows he’s seeing her as someone he can both give and accept support from.
For Mel: After a stressful morning where she was visibly rattled by the deposition (and Becca's case), she's completely turned it around by the end of the shift. By the time Mel and Frank are the break room, she’s the one initiating the conversation around her deposition and comforting Frank with a new sense of self-assurance. She took the hit from those lawyers and turned it into a life lesson; despite the whatever doubt the lawyers tried to instil in her, she’s proof that what doesn't kill you makes you stronger.
