Lovely summer picture.

Melysa works in TV production and when she works on set and location she can't carry around her handbag. But she still needs something to carry her important stuff with her, so she asked me to make her a pouch that she can wear by slipping a belt through the back loops. Her favorite color is charteuse so I incorporated a piece of lizard print leather into the design. The pouch is all leather. Hand made in my Los Angeles based studio. It has a large secure zippered pocket with a lovely brass YKK zipper. It has a slot for a sharpie pen. A medium sized pocket that has two piece of hook and loop tape to help secure it closed. Plus two small pockets. The approximate dimensions are 11 1/4"W x 6 1/2"H

Amazing photo taken circa 1935. Very stylish lady. People don't seem to put as much effort into their appearance for work these days.

This is a new collar for Jerry who is a French Bulldog. Jerry is a lovely butterscotch color, he's a little guy with a big attitude. The creative notes I was given from Jerry's Dad was that he wanted Jerry's collar to be blue and to help Jerry regain his mojo. For decoration I went with a punk rock motif using old silver toned spikes and skulls, and a broken heart with wings. The buckle is off a men's vintage belt. I used a bright blue pig skin that I stitched on to a lovely soft latigo for strength. Its totally a one of kind.  I had fun making it!

Gustav Klimt has for a long time being a favorite artist of mine - I loved his richly detailed portraits of strong woman. Beautiful photo recreations of Gustav Klimt's paintings were made as part of a fashion spread by Moises González, for Ae magazine in Spain. To help create the effect, the photos were hand painted in the postproduction.

I made this custom dog collar for my client's dog "Harlem". I love the vintage Americana buckle and the fire in the swarovski crystals. I used a black buffalo leather which has durability and flexibility - very good leather for belts and dog collars. I chose black as Harlem is a golden red Shepard mix with black flecks and white socks. The collar in black looks really good on her fur, nice strong color. I used pink crystals as her dad wanted to make sure everyone knew she was a girl. Sometimes people in the past mistook for a male. So the pink bling is just enough to say hey "I'm a girl, bitch!". The studs are because the dog is tough and i like the rock and roll sensibility, she can totally get away with the heavy metal vibe. I'm embarrassed that the placement of the studs are not precisely aligned. Last night friends told me about wabi-sabi.

Pared down to its barest essence, wabi-sabi is the Japanese art of finding beauty in imperfection and profundity in nature.

With this new perspective I can accept that my hand crafted products are not perfect, appreciate the culmination of all their attributes and enjoy their beauty.  But even with this new found permission to relax, next time I will use a precision instrument to determine the placement of the studs.

Overall the combination of the vintage buckle/black leather/ studs and crystals is so LA. Harlem is totally on trend but not a slave to fashion.

I'm in my studio making new leather belts for Fall listening too Pandora and discovered Nick Drake! I love his music. Thanks to it being used in soundtracks for commercials and movies I'm already familiar with his ethereal voice. I love the sparse finger picking on the guitar and the simple lyrics. The vibe is perfect for the current collection I am working on which has a 70's nostalgia.
