Kamea in Combat
Kamea’s combat training was almost entirely as a pilot for her mech, but she still picked up a decent amount of self defense during her time on the outskirts before her rebellion could begin again. As a result, while she normally avoids fighting on the front lines with the heroes and is dramatically less competent than most of them, she can hold her own against nameless opponents relatively easily.
Part of this difficulty is in the fact she was trained based around firearms, with close combat being a last resort. Even in close combat she was trained with an extending baton instead of a blade, axe or spear - so she loses out on that. She also doesn’t have the resources to craft any additional ammunition for her service pistol, which she keeps on her at all times in case of a Real Emergency situation. Armor extends to her reinforced flight suit, which she tends to wear in combat situations or extreme environments thanks to the materials it’s made from, although she prefers her unprotected dress uniform when at the castle.
At the start of Book I, Kamea’s inventory comes down to her baton, pistol and three clips. She avoids using her weapon until the events of Book II, where her own frustrations with Surtr and his immortality leads her to trying to see if a ‘foreign weapon’ could work as a bypass -- emptying one of her three clips into his chest and seeing if he could regenerate from that. When he started to regenerate she put the gun back in its holster and repeated the fact that it is an Emergency Case Only weapon to herself. Through the events of Book III she has yet to fire it again, and the amount of time she’s spent in Askr without being able to practice has also made her a far worse shot than she used to be, preventing its existence from ruining any tension in the game’s narrative.
