though the lingren’s were never a rich family, they’ve always been fairly well known in reno, nevada. kirby and his two older sisters were the third generation of lingren’s born in the city, something their father often reminded them of while growing up.
as a child, kirby spent most of his time in the house, not overly keen on going out and socializing like the rest of his family. though they tried their best to include him, he often was seen as the black sheep of the family, especially by their extended family.
his father’s firehouse became a stape in his teenage years, often spending hours there after school and helping out with various chores his father could think of. this is where he would develop his love for cooking.
kirby’s father was the one to push him to apply to culinary schools after high school in hopes that it would give him some drive. he threw himself at it with everything he had.
once graduated, he found a semi decent job back in reno and moved back home. his father passed away two weeks after he moved back.
the next could years passed in a blur. kirby couldn’t stay home – it felt like everything had been shifted sideways. with restaurant jobs not paying much, he bounced around from place to place until he landed himself in aurora bay. he had no real plan to stick around any longer than he had stayed anywhere else but once one of the waitresses found him after his shift to tell him she was pregnant, it didn’t feel right to just leave.
so he stuck around, spending every day putting one foot in front of the other until life got a little easier. he bought a little fixer upper with his inheritance and got it mostly move in ready by the time the baby came. the first year of his daughter’s life, the three of them lived together until the mother of his child decided to move out.
since then, kirby’s still mostly his strange self, but he does try. he spends most of free time fixing up his house, unless his daughter is with him – then he makes it a point to take her out as much as he can.
She looked around the room; spectacular as always. The twinkling lights, the decorations, the gorgeous dresses and the fancy suits, a champagne tower being poured. "Don't tell me this isn't even a little magical…" Nikki said with a sigh of awe when she realized someone had paused next to her.
having spent the last few hours helping prep the place for tonight, kirby couldn’t help but agree. the seascape always looked nice, but there was something a little extra to it. with a couple courses (mostly) prepped and ready to go, he figured a break was in order — he hadn’t brought a suit jacket for nothing, after all. “a little magic and a lot of work. this place knows how to throw a party.”

Location: Christmas Market
@aurorabaystarter
“ I know there is already a lot of Christmas horror movies, but I feel like we could always do more? “ kalina noted as she walked through the market place. The fake snow and hot chocolate was such a weird combination since she was literally wearing shorts this morning when she went to get groceries but she loved the commitment to the season. “ First there’s too many killer Santa’s; except for Billy Chapman of course and his brother who says it’s “ garbage day” so I think they deserve a pass. However maybe like a rabid reindeer? Or like a Agatha Christie style murder mystery set during a Christmas dinner? Oooh or a Panettone coming to life to attack others? I’d watch those. Have you ever seen the killer gingerbread man one ? It's terrible“
“i haven’t watched many horror movies, if i’m honest.” much less christmas ones. to kirby, the christmas season meant more time spent at work, cooking for locals and tourists alike. his real holiday started right at the start of the new year, when everyone made their resolution to eat out less. “and if it’s terrible, why would i have watched it? it makes me question your taste.”
"My gingerbread house looks like it should be condemned," Tabitha says as she surveys her work with a scowl. "This thing definitely has black mould or asbestos or something." It looked barely edible when compared to the various houses on display.
if kirby was one thing, it was meticulous. he didn’t particularly care about building the gingerbread house to show it off, but he couldn’t help but try his best – and his best wasn’t half bad. “it looks…” looking over at tabitha’s, he couldn’t help but make a bit of a face. “homely?” he tried, frowning at his own choice of word. “i can give you a hand, if you want.”
