We’ve waited a year to reblog this. Happy Bread Anniversary!
Because it’s important to celebrate the little victories in life.
When youre completely naked in the ocean then youll get it
I think one thing my fellow USAmerican Polytheists need to understand is that controversial deities do not need their behavior justified in order to be worthy of veneration.
The notion that "this deity did a bad thing and so they shouldn't be honored," is a very Puritan way of looking at things, and replying, "Well if you look at it from the deity's perspective you can see they only had Good Intentions," is feeding right into it.
Loki is deceitful. Fenrir is full of anger and pride. The Morrigan is ruthless and violent. Eochu Bres is vain and he did make for a bad king due to his personal biases against the Tuatha De Danann. They have never invited me to believe otherwise.
But you know what else is true? These deities are very self-aware, very wise, and care very deeply about people.
Loki taught me that lies are not the same as falsehoods.
Fenrir taught me that surrender is not the same as failure.
The Morrigan taught me that war is not the same as conquest.
And Bres taught me that beauty is not the same as physical attractiveness, and that values are not the same as biases.
These deities don't stop being themselves simply because we're uncomfortable by what they're associated with, and rather than try to bury those qualities they have, we should seek to understand them.
The ancient Egyptian mythical sha beast is traditionally depicted in more of a canidae form, but since the god they're associated with, Set, is on record taking the form of hoofed mammals such as ibexes, hippos and boars, I tend to like to depict the sha in a more ungulate form. Above is inspired by antelope mixed with a bit of tapir.

Witch Safety Tip:
Don't burn cinnamon or cassia. I know it smells delicious. I know it has the cleansing power we all dream of. But cinnamon is a SEVERE respiratory irritant. Even if your lungs are healthy, it can cause lung scarring. If your lungs are less than flawless? Disaster.
That includes cinnamon oil.
Cinnamon scented candles are fine, because they're stabilized.
Heating cinnamon or cinnamon oil up is fine.
Just don't burn it.
Bonus Tip: don't put cinnamon on your skin. ESPECIALLY NOT CINNAMON OIL. We use cinnamon oil to strip varnish from furniture. Back in ye olde days of the 2010s, people mixed cinnamon powder with water to give themselves a facial peel. They peeled their flesh right off! Cinnamon can give you third degree chemical burns.
Something I wish I was told as a young witch:
Correspondences are the most potent when it resonates with your meaning and your reality.
Yes, every old dusty grimoire says that we use the new moon for manifestation.
Every popular new age author since the 80′s says that rose quartz is used for love magic.
A lot of witchcraft bloggers say to use green candles for money magic.
But:
If your spirit tells you that the new moon is going to benefit your divination rituals that night? Trust your intuition.
If you pick up a rose quartz, and that stone tells you that it wants to help you feel protected? Listen to it.
If you associate other colors with money because your country’s paper currency isn’t green? Use the red, blue, yellow, or other color candles.
Collective correspondences are useful and have weight to them, but nothing is more effective than your own instincts.
Learn to trust your intuitive gifts, babes.
I cannot point this one out enough.
The correspondence lists you see floating around the internet are very much Western/Americancentric. Which is why they never resonated with me, even when I was a beginner.
In my practice, there is more red and yellow and not a lot of white. I charge new card decks under the new moon as well as the full moon. I almost never use rosemary. I collect rose quartz pieces because I like the color pink.
My devotional bracelet to Hermes and my Apollon prayer beads came in today! Many thanks to Hearthfire Handworks!

Video of a kitten at a vet’s office protesting loudly as it’s scooped from the floor. Another kitten turns around the corner and walks up to the camera, also protesting loudly for its friend. From here.

Y'all gotta stop taking people's posts about their personal practices as "guidelines". People are allowed to write stuff about themselves and for themselves on their blogs. Like, for reals.
