ahHHHhh HELLO BEAUTIFUL/// ♥
One Last Game: SIDE A
About this time last year Joshua was enrolled in a few educational courses. Not that he really needed the education, but he loved to learn. Plus, he needed something to take up his time and distract him from his internal issues. He decided to take up a few basic courses to freshen up his ground skills, as well as a few he actually enjoyed participating in such as philosophy, sociology and various human development courses (along with an art course he got thrown into all for an extracurricular credit). All was going well throughout the semester, as it was not his first time around in enrollment, but as it neared its end and all the students were beginning to leave for their winter breaks, Joshua heard a voice from behind him, stopping his tracks. "Kiryu," He turned around already knowing it was his digital art professor, for no one else called him by his last name on any given day. "Merry Christmas." Professor said to him as he handed over a box wrapped in your ordinary holiday paper, topped with a bow and a letter taped on the front. Before Joshua could gather words, the professor had walked himself out of sight.
He then exited the building and made his way over to Nox Coffee, his usual destination. He didn't really think to order first, having an unopened present in his hands. He took his usual spot in the cafe and eagerly tore the glued end of the envelope. The letter inside read, "Kiryu, your work in class has truly been an inspiration. Do not drop this skill upon dropping this semester. Your soul is starving for expression, Yoshiya. Your soul needs a new canvas. Take it to the streets, splatter it on the walls. Become a bigger part of what's around you. Whatever you do, don't rebel against your spirit. Merry Christmas." As he went to open his gift, he heard a barista from the bar call out his drink for him. They saw him walk in and prepared his dark mocha latte without request, assuming he'd eventually order it. He showed gratitude, and they gave it to him on the house, seeing as he was a regular at the shop and it was the least they could do on a holiday break. He took in the aroma of the coffee and thought through what the letter was really saying to him. A slight smile lit up his face as he opened what was gifted to him. Before him was a set of paint brushes and spray cans, along with stencils and a gift card to buy any particular supplies he felt he would need. He took it in. Suddenly, he felt inspired, and headed out to the streets.
Then on out he began painting on the walls; designs, patterns, symbols here and there, almost anything he felt like. Pretty things, symbolic things, basically just doodles. Maybe a quote here or there from a famous poet. He began expressing the value of appreciating life just a little bit more, for more and more people to see. Sometimes his art was edgy and bright colored, but more times than not it was simple, pastel stuff, like flowers or feathers, which really stuck out in the street art community. People seemed to appreciate the work even though more often than not people didn't know who the face behind it was.
It's not something Joshua will share with everybody. It's something he tries to keep to himself as a personal activity, since it's basically all he has.

●: If you could say just one thing to your Muse, what would it be?
(THIS IS HARD. A FRICKIN SIN. HOW COULD YOU)
You know, there are a lot of things I wish I could say to the kid, but it's hard actually wording them. I suppose what i should say to him is something along the lines of, "what's done is done", since he seems to let his history rule every aspect of his life. I wish he could focus on moving forward and quit being so unhappy and lonely and just. Do I have to say something to him? Can't I just give him a hug? sighs deeplyMaybe I should just tell him that things are going to be okay.
Carnival [Joshua/Rin]
[ ℛ. ] ✽ After dinner, the swimmer walked down to the lobby to check his mailbox. Bill, bill, bill, flier, bill- wait, what? Rin turned his attention to the colorful piece of paper. “…”
“Carnival: Tonight Only! Cotton Candy, Popcorn and Attractions Galore!”
The red-head cringed at cheesy rhyme.
Rin stared at the flier with disinterest. The bright neon letters that screamed ‘CARNIVAL: TONIGHT ONLY’ were hurting his eyes. Still, it wouldn’t hurt to check it out; but Rin didn’t exactly want to go alone [the embarrassment of it all]. He’d need someone to come with him, but everyone he called was either too busy or didn’t pick up. Feel dejected, Rin went by himself.
As the swimmer walked down the sidewalk, he looked on to see a ferris wheel turning; how long was it since he been to a carnival. Probably the last one was before he left Japan.
Walking into the fair grounds, Rin realized that he had no idea what to do [his sense of thrill and fun dulled down over the years]. He realized if he continued to stand around like this he’ll just look like an idiot. He started to walk around.
He heard the overjoyed screams of people at the rollercoaster. The swimmer blinked, then grinned just by the slightest of bits. Perfect. There was one more seat. He sat down next to the other occupant and waited for the ride to start up.
"Why hello there," the blonde initiated, "What brings you here by yourself? Just out to have a little fun? Surely no one you were with just got up and left you here all by your lonesome. That would be a tragedy, wouldn't it? Heh heh heh," He held hopes for a response similar to one that he would have given if the question were posed his way; a genuine response in appreciation of having time to yourself, or doing things independently. Joshua loves people, far more than one could understand, and he loves being around them, but he understands that sometimes people need their own time to wind down and take in the lessons that they've learned from others. Despite the company, he was secretly worried that what he'd joked around with had been the true case. He knows about loneliness all too well.
The gears underneath the 50 seated length began to shift. Murmurs began to slip from the mouths of everyone around. Words of fear, words of excitement. Joshua decided it was probably best to stay quiet until the ride had begun and completely run it's course. He was patiently awaiting the redhead's response. That is, if he was going to get one. If his new friend, as recently decided, prefers to keep to himself, all is well but nothing's going to keep Joshua from an opportunity for good conversation.
Equal Parts Patience and Coffee [Joshua/Yumi]
The air was crisp, so crisp it cut the skin just stretched over Joshua’s bones. Then again, when was it not to him? Despite being in the later months of autumn, Nox seemed to maintained a welcoming climate; one you couldn’t really feel on a typical day. Warm. Sunny, even when rainy. Ever inviting. But Joshua has always been cold-blooded.
The breeze drafted his direction of destination into the nearest coffee shop, for nothing sounded nearly as satisfying as his warm caffeine fix. Inside decor paralleled the season perfectly. Red cups and decorative sleeves slipped a smirk onto the blond’s face. He subconsciously laid his lashes to rest on top of his cheeks, closing out his vision, allowing him to simply take in the aroma of the fall. Espresso concoctions with various spices and brewed teas steeped to perfection. Such a blissful aroma. There was nothing more he could ask for, in fact, maybe not even his drink.
"Hmmm," he pondered the drink options quietly to himself and neared his way over to the registers. "Honestly, a decision such as this? It shouldn’t be that difficult to make," he thought aloud, "being this indecisive is not in my nature". Suddenly, Joshua heard a voice from behind him. A voice that may have been recognizable, but from where? He couldn’t quite pinpoint the owner from memory, so he turned about a quarter of the way around only to find them next in line, offering to buy Joshua his drink, and proposing a one-on-one in the cafe. Of course, who was he to decline? It’s not like he had any prior engagements on his day planner. "What’s this? You’re going to buy my drink for me? Ahh, how sweet of you~ Heh heh heh~" He giggled and looked over at the stranger expectantly. "Oh, are you not planning on ordering for me as well? Now, now, dear, that’d be awfully rude of you… or don’t you agree? You did offer, you know. Heh heh heh. Just… surprise me. I hadn’t made up my mind or anything." Joshua smirked. and without another word, turned to bend the corner around the bar to find the comfiest seating possible.
"No I am absolutely not coming to San Fransico for the holidays,” Yumichika spoke into his phone as he entered the café. "I’ve better things to do than act as a buffer between mother and reality."
His cousin, lovely girl that she was, gave an unladylike snort. "Bullshit Yumi, what’s your excuse for not visiting your dad either? Or my dad for that matter." As she spoke he stiffled his own snort, sliding into line behind the
"Your father thinks I’m a, oh what was it, useless bum, and my father is busy with his new wife,” the second part was the truth - his father had somehow found his fated after the disaster that was Yumichika’s childhood. Lucky man. "Look, since you’re not smart enough -"
"Hey!"
"-to avoid that madwoman, here’s the deal. Next time we have the misfortune of getting together, I’ll buy you coffee.”
No sooner were the words out of his mouth when the boy in front of him turned around, raising an eye as he more or less demanded free coffee.
"Just…surprise me"
"Sorry Kat," he said, ignoring her outrage over the mention of misfortune and watching the blond sashay off. "I apparently owe a budding con artist a coffee."
"Wha-" he hung up with a satisfying snap - smartphones just didn’t have the same oomph. He smiled at the harassed looking barista. “A medium flat white, a large café borgia - hold the whipping cream - and two chocolate biscotti please dear,” she smiled thinly at him.
"91.92, please," she said adding, "for here or to go?" as he passed her two coins.
"For here, apparently - keep the change. And the name is Yumichika," she paused visibly at the name, even as she reached for her pen, "or just Yumi. Y-u-m-i." She smiled, thanking him even as he turned and made for his impromptu coffee partner.
"I hope you’re not lactose intolerance," he said, smiling sharply. "And know now - the medium’s for you." He offered one well manicured hand, tutting a little when he realized he hadn’t entirely gotten the blood out from his thumb cuticle after last night. “Ayasegawa Yumichika,” he said, “whom, exactly, do I have the pleasure of spending my oh so desirably time with?”
"The milk is fine for coffee, though I prefer soy in my tea lattes ...for future reference, of course. Hee hee... The name is Yoshiya. Yoshiya Kiryu, but please, call me Joshua. No need to be formal, dear." Violet eyes scanned down the man in front of him. Intrigued, he was. It wasn't so much a surprise that someone had actually played along with his game as it was how they went along playing it. The man seemed to have himself busy, yet he took the time to buy Joshua his drink, not to mention the sass he managed to portray effortlessly. It's almost as if, for once, someone didn't find him intimidating or weird enough to try cutting contact immediately.
"A flat white, hmm? How did you know I needed the caffeine of a light roast espresso drink? My my, you must be a mind reader," Joshua initiated, "anyway, I hope you don't mind me asking... I'm kind of doing it anyway. What was that all about? On the phone? And don't tell me you'd prefer not to talk about it. Why, you wouldn't have sat down with me if that were the case. Isn't that right?" He giggled that of his signature and rested his hand under his chin, patiently anticipating some sort of an event-filled story. In the end, all he was seeking out was some good conversation, and maybe, just maybe, a realization as to why Yumi's voice sounded so unbelievably familiar despite the face of a stranger.
aahhh sorry for being so inactive these past few days!! i have off of work tomorrow so i'll be able to reply to everything and probably start some new threads as well. Like this post if you want to RP ~!
