john lavery’s “anna pavlova as dying swan, (1921)” .
she asked me if i believed in god and i told her that when i was four i almost drowned in a public pool and in my panic mistook a stranger for my father. i clawed my way up his leg. four years later he’d send my parents a picture of the scars alongside a tin of cookies. he said, “i hope she’s still okay. i carry her with me. it isn’t every day you save a life. it isn’t every day you feel like you were here for a reason. when it does happen, you have to cherish that memory. for once, i had a purpose. just being there was enough. she tore me open but she taught me a lot about love.”

I saw someone reblog this dismissing it as AI despite the fact they're 1 click away from a search engine. "Rosetta Nebula" is all you'd have to type. Perhaps the biggest travesty with ai images is going to be robbing people of their wonder for what's actually possible in the universe and continuing to shrink their bubble of understanding based on whether they believe it at a glance.
The image has been colorized differently above but the Rosetta Nebula is real and actually looks like that.
it looks less like a human skull than it does Homo heidelbergensis:
Look, it formed a long time ago, it had to work with the reference it had
The same artist made these two 35 years apart:
1750s Henry Robert Morland (British artist, 1716-1797) A Girl Ironing Shirt Sleeves
1785 Henry Robert Morland (British artist, 1716-1797) Laundry Maid Ironing
WHICH IS SO COOL and also shows the change of fashion.
18th century Draw This Again challenge
bonnets got bigger, tops got lacier, artist got better at faces, interest in boobs undiminished.
and the laundry still needs doing.
I think the best thing I’ve ever done for my mind is literally just be like “idk man they’re just weird people” and move on w my life without psychoanalyzing…….. like I literally think I just rewired my brain w a single sentence
my roman empire is that whatever great quality you have been blessed with will inevitably seemingly turn against you and separate you from others. if you’re very beautiful, a lot of people will look at the surface and feel jealous or just want you because you’re hot. if you’re very intelligent, a lot of people won’t be on your level to provide fulfilling conversations and think through strategies. if you’re very creative, a lot of people will think you’re weird or unrealistic. they will be intimidated because of your extraordinary quality, whatever it is, and so being better than others in any sort of way will always make you a bit lonely
