no one seems to actually know how long a cycle is in metroid so i did my best to figure it out

all of this info comes from metroid prime 2 because it has a lot of events very close together that we can find in the pirate logs. before we start it's also important to note that the cycle dates correspond with the start of the operation; "cycle 1" on a log is not the first cycle of the calendar, but the first cycle of the mission to aether. but with that out of the way, we can jump to...

this immediately tells us that the time between the federation landing and samus's arrival is around 8 days. pirate log 07.013.6 says...

"Another disaster. The transport bringing our reinforcements and supplies has been shot down. It was engaged in orbit by a federation vessel, which has landed near the alien temple."

obviously referring to the federation ship that samus lost contact with, which is right next to the luminoth temple area. log 07.159.9 is...

"Another hunter, wearing the traditional colors of Samus Aran, made planetfall today. Horrific as it may sound, there are two of them now."

the pirates used to think dark samus was normal samus; this is when they find regular samus actually shows up. it's pretty safe to assume the ".013" and ".159" refer to thousandths of a cycle, so we know it was 0.1463 cycles between the pirates recording each event. this obviously isn't a perfect system, but it's better than nothing. 0.1463 cycles is about 8 days, so we can just do 0.1463/8 to find that one day is 0.0182 cycles, and one cycle is just about 54.68 days!

i think the key difference between george lucas’s star wars and disney’s star wars is that lucas is a man with an ideology. someone with a point of view, and all that entails. which comes with ideas of revolution, anti-imperialism, challenging the status quo, cultural appropriation and racist stereotypes. complex and contradictory ideas because that’s how artists are: complex and complicated people. disney is not. disney is a corporation. a corporation can’t have ideology, because ideology defeats the purpose of profit. and when the only thing you do is to turn on the movie manufacturing machine before you sit down and plan what ideas are you trying to convey to the audience, then your results are going to be washed out corporate garbage. and because when you’re a giant corporation who only cares about selling to the widest audience possible, you can’t take sides. you can’t decide on an idea. because you want to sell your product to people who are on the entire political spectrum. which results in movies without ideology, without purpose, without soul.

My mother discovered AI art and the consequences are... interesting.

For a long time now I have been posting about how by default most parents seem to have an extremely inaccurate model of what their children are like, which is also one reason why they end up believing in nonsense like "Rapid Onset Gender Dysphoria".

They ignore the reality of their own children's actual lives and preferences in favor of their own model of what they imagine their children are like, and when said children turn out to have different preferences or traits than their imagined version they act as if the real child has been somehow corrupted because it doesn't resemble the imaginary child.

Case in point, this is what she gets when she feeds the AI my actual likeness to use as a reference.

The filter makes my hair look brown rather than black and also lightens my eyes, but other than that this is pretty much exactly how I look (those of you who have seen selfies can confirm).

However, what happens when instead of using a reference she instead prompts it based on pure vibes? What if instead of photo references she uses her own mental model of how I look?

Then you get Generic Webnovel Coolguy.

That is not how I have ever looked at any point in my life, even back when I lived with my parents and was pretending to be a boy.

Back then I had short hair because the probability of a fight breaking out either at school or at home was high enough that hair long enough for an opponent to grab was impractical.

Back then I was dangerously skinny because my parents neglected to work around my sensory issues from autism for the longest time and thought I was just refusing to eat for no good reason. My younger brother actually ended up becoming taller than me for the same reason.

Back then I was still very pale because of the vampirism. The sun always bothered me even before I started worrying about the photoaging effects.

I also probably would have also had a more neutral expression because I was depressed and dissociating so often at the time that she even seemed to think I had no emotions.

It's such a dramatically different result and I don't know where it even came from.
