We had a ton of fun meeting everyone who stopped by to cheek out our Booth! We carvers are famous for loving loud base heavy music so this event was super easy for us! Our blood only ran a little cold when some of ya'll told us you saw us on Tumblr! We hope you come to a meet up soon!
The president of our club and one of our main teachers of new people is an amazing guy. We'll be at Kitsap Pridefest this year again! Last year was our first, and he was so supportive about us going that he volunteered to pay for it, if the club didn't agree with a vote. Of course, they absolutely did agree, with enthusiasm. Before pride he seemed a little nervous and asked how we can tell what pronouns to use for people, and how to know when to ask. (He'd seen me (Vic) ask some new people what their pronouns were.) I told him to just ask everyone when you get their name, and that no one would think it was rude- and the look of relief on his face ya'll. I have never seen a more relaxing deflation of a man in my life. The stress leaving his body was visible to the naked eye. Amazing.
No July Meeting! For the new folks to the club I wanted to remind ya'll that there is no monthly meeting in July, since it usually lands on a holiday weekend! We can't wait to see ya'll at Augusts meeting, which is a potluck!

I really wanted to go see your show but it's the same weekend as pride, and those events feel extra important since trump declared trans people terrorists recently. But Wood Carving is so cool and seems like a dying art so I wanted to support it. Your blog is hilarious!
Hey thanks! Most of our members are retirees, and we love them so much but our leadership is trying to make the club more accessible to folks who aren't yet retirement age. The show was in June because in 1973 when the club was started, we were taking over an existing show that would have otherwise ended, and had been running for over ten years. Over the years the show has changed, and rebranded. Our leadership kept it the 2nd weekend in June out of a desire to be reliable within our community, but thing have changed. We don't want anyone to have to choose between us and a pride event. We're here to support an art form, and a fun hobby. Not an entire demographics right to exist. And frankly, with climate change, it's too hot in June to have a bunch of people in a community center with no ac. Kitsap Pride is in July around here, but we know ya'll are going to other pride events outside of Kitsap and we want to support that. (look for us at Kitsap Pride this year!) Going forward, we're going to be moving the show to earlier in the year. We don't have a date yet, but we're looking at spring. Thank you for your support. The show was so fun, but there wasn't as much foot traffic as we'd hoped.
Some might say Tumblr is a terrible place to advertise a wood carving club. Some might say you can learn to carve wood for free with Kitsap Carvers three times a week from kind people eager to share their special intrests with anyone who wants to learn and there's more info at www.kitsapcarvers.org. Whose to say whose right and whose also right?
Just a heads up, last year I saw a handmade leather bag on raffle had like three tickets in the bucket so this is worth stopping by Sunday afternoon and checking the raffle out. J

Anyway if you're also dyslexic you should consider learning how to carve since us dyslexic people are often better at picturing objects in three-dimensional space and that's a useful skill to have for carving.

I get a lot of dms from folks here in the pacific northwest who want to come to a meeting, but dont live in kitsap county making the drive a bit long so I want to take a moment to show you guys some other wood carving clubs in the pnw!
Northwest Carvers Association
City: Algona (a bit north of Tacoma)
This club is really fun and full of kind people eager to share their hobbies with anyone who wants to learn!
Capital Carvers
City: Olympia
This group, while small has come up with incredibly creative projects that they shared with Kitsap Carvers! (Also like half the folks in this club are supportive P flag parents of queer teens including my uncle!! (So u better be nice!!!)
Seattle Spoon Club
City: Seattle
This club meets monthly and has a focus on spoons! It's good fun. I find it worth the ferry ride to go carve with them every month!
Not all these clubs have the resources to give away wood and a lend knives to big groups, so if you're new to carving please read their websites thoroughly before coming to a meeting. Many are happy to teach a few at a time so please reach out before you first come to a meeting so they know to bring extra wood ans knives! And tell them Kitsap Carvers sent you!
You can't carve wood in space, because of the whole wood makes fire and fire makes everyone die in space thing. but we'll still watch the Artemis launch today. You could learn to carve for free from us and carve a miniature Artemis. Either the ship or the cat from Sailor Moon. We dont judge.
A year or so ago I went to wood carving club with a bruised eye from my dog slamming his nose into my eyesocket and like every old lady there pulled me aside at some point to ask if my partner hit me here are some of the solutions they had in case he did.
-Replacing his vitimens with poision
- getting her brother to invite him out onto his boat and then killing him and dumping him in the ocean and saying he got drunk and fell off.
- get tboned with him in the passenger seat and then once he was in the hospital theres all kinds of easy ways to kill him like not washing my hands after a poop and then touching his wound casually.
-replacing his drink of choice with moonshine!?
- take him on a hike thats locally notorious for a rabid otter attacking hikers and once he has rabies I could just kill him any ol way and say self defense.
-One lady just cheerfully informed me she had a gun and only a few years left anyway
