For as long as she can remember, Katherine has been praised for her quiet strength and bookish determination, although the memories are hazy. As the only child born to the hardened clinical scientist, and highly revered psychiatrist, Patricia and Johnathan Ambrose, she has been subject to high expectations since her first draw of breath.
A highly-combustable child, Katherine was constantly reprimanded by her nannies for her temper and inability to follow instructions. Following a particularly disruptive episode in which she set fire to her bedroom, she was subjected to an intervention of a controversial program headed by her parents, in collaboration with their prestigious colleagues in the Hawkins.
The Ambroses never wanted a daughter; they wanted a project, an innovation, a powerful heir. When they realised she would not meet their academic standards, they enrolled her into a different curriculum. A way to channel that blaze into a power that would put them on the map forever... when...

Whatever happened in that lab, seemed to extinguish the little fire's light completely. Disappointed by their prodigy, again, the Ambroses reframed the failure as a successful cure for their child's unruliness. The light drained from her pale blue eyes, Katherine had no choice but to submit to her studies and train to step into her parents' ever-looming shadow.

Each year that passed by taught Katherine that something was amiss. A heavy bubbling developed under her skin, like an ominous magma. Strange things happened when her emotions ran high. Glasses shattered, pipes burst, and blood splattered.
There came a day that changed life irreversibly for her. What could possibly bring a girl of sixteen to kill her mother and paralyse her father? Katherine was not privy to such information. Shaken by her own violence, she surrendered herself entirely to her aunt, Lindsay Ambrose, a respected local MP. Lindsay used her political prowess to rewrite the story of that day and set up a one way trip across the globe.
Katherine had to die, and Kitty was to be born and raised under the guardianship of Lindsay's most trusted confidant, Roselia Calida. The pair did not just move to Hawkins, they fled, under a changed identity, with the hope that she would be able to help others afflicted by scientific greed.

Kit has integrated quite well into Hawkins having graduated from the same cohort as Steve Harrington. She volunteers as a candy stripe in the Hawkins Hospital paediatric department and works one shift a week in the hospital kitchen. Money is no issue; she stole plenty from her parents when she left, but if she wants to keep an eye on the lab, she needs to keep a low profile.
