one of my greatest pet peeves in fiction, and it is truly stupid I know, is that no one seems to understand how genuinely hard it is to kill someone via stabbing. stab wounds have a mortality rate of like 5%. especially abdominal stabbing. tv shows and movies show dudes getting stabbed one time in the lower abdomen with a tiny knife and then they fall over. like what did he die of precisely. that man died of Small Knife

yay, I get to talk about the anatomy of kill blows. Here we go!

Most of the time in movies, when an individual dies near immediately from an abdominal wound, its due to the character being hit in the kidneys, spleen, or liver. If you're stabbed in one of these organs full-on, you will bleed out in less than 5 minutes and the blood pressure drops will floor you until you bleed out. These organs are your highest vascular organs, so they has a high blood supply. It's as deadly as getting stabbed in the heart. There's also the aorta artery, which runs down the center of your body via the back, just left of your spine. If that is full-blown stabbed, not nicked, you're dead within minutes to seconds and again, the blood pressure drop will floor you. Also doesn't help that most people go into shock, which will floor them and/or kill them. 1 in 5 people will die from shock verse the actual stab wound. So most of these movies--although admittedly probably don't know that--know that hitting that general area will be insta-death.

HOWEVER!!!! These organs and artery are protected by ribs, intestines and other organs and are also malleable. So a knife stab will typically move the organ out of the way rather than actually hit it. It's like trying to stab a water balloon without holding it in place. The best way to hit these three organs/artery is through the back. Most back blows are death sentences.

On the other side of the coin, if you get stabbed in the stomach in general, you'll die very slowly. Internal bleeding is still an issue, but your intestines are protecting your stomach for the most part, and you've got 15ft worth to soak up damage. You can get stabbed in the lower stomach area and survive for 10 hours before succumbing to bleed out.
