Light woke up with a gasp, eyes wide and sweat clinging to his forehead, making his hair stick in clumps. The street light shining through his window makes a dull throb shoot through Light's eyes making him squeeze them shut.
"Damn it." The teen mutters, sitting up and slowly opening his eyes again.
Four thirty AM his clock reads, making the teen groan and flop onto his bed again. Light knew if he didn't actually get some sleep he'll start getting snappy with everyone and they'll start getting even more worried, don't get him wrong, he loved his family and liked his friends but sometimes he feels like they're pushy.
A metallic sound echoed in the empty street of Light's neighborhood making him jerk back up into a sitting position. Light looks at his window, heart pounding he doesn't know what the sound was but he was scared it might have something to do with Shouta's house.
Slowly sliding out of his bed, Light's feet hit his carpeted floor, muffling his already quiet footsteps. He walks up to his window, not pulling his curtains away any further than they were and looked at the house across the street. Light's eyes widen as he sees the gray pipe on Shouta's window again, looking closer Light realizes it wasn't a pipe, it looked like an arm that was bent in too many ways, like it had more joints than it should have and the hooks he thought it had was actually a hand.
Light's heart somehow speeds up even more, the fear clawing at him telling him to run while another tells him to stay, to watch and see what happens.
Light to his honor sees Shouta walk into his bedroom, where the arm was holding. Turning off the light so the teen couldn't see inside his house like he normally could.
Light sees the curtains move like the older man was going to shut them when the arm moved, too fast for Light to truly see what the thing was but he could tell it was gray and had too many limbs.
The curtains moved a few times, like there was a fight before it stopped. The curtains opened and the lights turned on and to Light's fear, there was someone else standing in Shouta's house.
Light's legs felt like they could give out on him at any moment, they shook and he almost took a step back but froze when he noticed the strange man seemed to be looking at him, meeting his gaze from between the small sliver curtain.
The man smiled and the lights went out again.
Light was stuck in place, fear making his body shake.
"I have to call someone." Light mutters, his voice shaky as he forces his feet to move to his door.
Light is quiet when he opens his door and walks downstairs to the landline, he picks up the phone from the receiver and calls the police.
"110, what's your emergency?" A woman on the line asked.
"Someone broke into my neighbor's house, I think I saw a weapon." Light said, his voice still shaky as he talks, sweat rolling down his neck.
"Can you give me the address and tell me the suspect's looks?"
Light tells her the address and a description of the man in Shouta's house.
"Ok, the police will be there soon, can I have your name?" The woman asked.
"I would like this to be anonymous," Light said, before hanging up.
Climbing up the stairs quickly but quietly, Light goes into his room, closing the door and stands at his window to watch for the cops. It wasn't long before two cop car's pulled up, their lights off.
Light watches as the four cops talked before two went to Shouta's front door and knocked. Light sees a light turn on and the strange man walking from one room to another before opening the door for the two cops.
Light sees the confused look on the strange man's face before it melts into a face of relief and then into laughter making Light confused himself.
The mans grabs what looked like Shouta's wallet and showed the cops what was in it, the cops seemed to laugh before the turned around walked back to their cars and took off.
Light was shocked, why didn't the cops get the strange man and what was in that wallet?.
As the thoughts swirled around Light's head, he froze when he saw the man look up at Light's room, giving the teen another smile before closing the door.
"It knew." Light gasped, his eyes widen and his hand snatching the curtains and closing them all the way, "It knew I was watching.
Light didn't go back to bed, he sat on his bed till his alarm rang for school. Fear still shook inside him as he got dressed in his uniform, he forces himself to brush his hair and try different ways to hide the dark circles under his eyes.
Sitting at the table Light was once again picking at his food but forcing more than he ate yesterday into his mouth.
"You feeling better Light?" Sayu asked, looking at her brother's more put together look.
Light nods, still dazed but forcing himself to stay focused.
"Yeah, guess I was a bit sick."
Sayu let out a sniff and a grin formed on her face.
"I knew it! You were sick!" Sayu laughed.
"I'm glad you're feeling better, Light," Sachiko said, sitting down next to her oldest, "You had me worried."
Light let out a soft chuckle.
"With the way everyone was asking how I was you'd think I was dying." Light joked.
The two laughed at his joke before Soichiro walked downstairs laughing into his phone.
"I'm sure it was nothing," the older man said, fixing his tie, "Prank calls happen more than you think."
The words felt like lead in Light's stomach, 'prank call' is what he heard, his hand stopped pushing his food around and he watched his dad snap his phone closed before sitting with them.
"What was that, dear?" Asked Sachiko, passing Soichiro a plate.
"Someone called in a break in at Shouta's house." Soichiro said, taking the plate.
Sayu gasped with wide brown eyes.
"Oh no! Is he ok?" Sayu asked, fear for her cool neighbor.
"He's fine, gave him quite a scare seeing cops in front of his house," Soichiro said, eating from his plate, "The person called and gave the dispatcher his description."
Light sat there in disbelief while his family laughed at his call for help and he realized no one is going to help him with this.
Light was in a daze as he rode the bus with Sayu to her school, walking by himself to his own school. Meeting Aoto at the front, walking to class to class the rest of the day, meeting up with some more of his friends, saying by to them after the bell rang and picking up Sayu. In a daze, numb and full of fear.
"Hey, mister Shouta!" Sayu called out.
Light snaps out of his daze as soon as Sayu bolted from his side to run to the strange man Light has seen in Shouta's house.
Thin and lanky, hair short and combed, clothes new and ironed perfectly.
The complete opposite of Shouta.
"Sayu!" The man said happily, patting her head with a smile, "How was school?."
Light watches as Sayu rambles at the thing that took Shouta's place, the teen watches as the thing nods his head and asked more questions, using all the same facial expressions that Shouta did but not quite, it was off just enough to light alarm bells in Light.
"I have to get going," said the strange man, "It was nice talking to you, Sayu."
"Nice talking to you too, mister Shouta!" Sayu said cheerfully before jogging the rest of the way home and leaving Light with the man.
The man just looked at Light, his eyes never leaving the teens.
"See something odd last night, Light?" The man asked.
Light feels the hair on his arms stand from under his shirt and blazer at the question.
"Like what?" Light asked, his voice horce.
"Like something you weren't supposed to see."
Light didn't know how to answer that because he did, he did see something and he knows that the creature now living Shouta's life knows he knows.
"No." Light finally says, voice quiet.
"No?"
"No, I didn't see anything."
The strange man lets out a hum, walking towards Light making the teen tense before the thing walks passed him to head to the bus stop.
"Lets keep it that way."
Light says nothing and starts walking to his house, even more scared. he thinks he hears the monster chuckle.
Weeks passed after the conversation, after that a for sale sign gets put in front of Shouta's house and Light never saw Shouta and that man again.

The next morning Sayu was looking at her brother with concern, looking at the bags developing under his eyes, his hair that was normally perfectly styled was now messeily brushed through. Her brother was pushing around his breakfast, hardly eating and it was worrying Sayu.
“Hey, could you help me with my math homework after school?” Sayu asked, her brown eyes darting around Light's face.
“Not today,” Light mumbled, his eyes not looking up from the food in front of him, “Sorry.”
Sayu's eyes widen at Light's answer, the boy normally never tells Sayu no about helping her with homework.
“Are you ok, Light?” Sayu asked, his voice full of concern.
Light blinked a few times, like he was stuck in his head and is now trying to get his thoughts in check.
"Yeah, just didn't sleep well."
Sayu ran her eyes over her brother's face before nodding.
"Ok, if anything's wrong you can always tell me." Sayu said, voice low so only Light could hear.
Light gave her a small smile and a nod but he knew he couldn't tell her his fears, he couldn't tell her he thinks something is wrong with their neighbor.
The rest of the day went normally, almost too normally for Light. The teen rode with his sister to her school, Sayu rambling about her school friends and maybe having a sleepover during the weekend, Light nods along with her voice, not really listening.
Light drops off the tween at her school, leaving her with a pat on the head and quiet "be good" before he wakes his way to his school.
It felt like his feet were dragging, his head was down and hair covering his eyes. Light was tired, confused and scared but Light didn't know why the fear was gripping him so hard.
"Yo, Light!" Called a voice, making Light jerk his head up.
There's stood Light's friend Aoto Tanaka, his arm out waving Light over, a big grin on his face and his messy long hair blowing in the soft wind.
"Aoto, hey." Light said, a small smile on his face.
Aoto's dark eyes dart around Light's face, concern growing in his eyes at how tired Light looked.
"You ok?" Aoto asked, walking with Light into their school, "You kinda look like shit."
Light lets out a chuckle.
"Thank, you know how to make a guy feel special." Light joked.
Aoto snorts, his grip on his bags strap tightens as he glanced at Light from the corner of his eye, how the other teen keeps his head down when he normally walks with pride, his hair messy and his eyes developing dark circles.
"Did you not sleep last night?" Aoto questioned, thoughts going around his head, "Is Sayu ok?"
Light's steps stutter at Aoto's last question.
"W-what?" Light stuttered, his eyes blinking in surprise, "Sayu is fine, I just didn't sleep good last night."
Aoto breathed a sigh of relief.
"Good," The shorter teen said, "You're just normally the more put together one in our friend group."
Light shrugs as they step into their first class of the day.
"People have off days,"
"True."
The boys sat at their desks and listened to the teacher, Aoto's eyes still darting to Light every now and then.
Throughout the day Light could feel the eyes of his friend and teachers on him, some concern and some irritated. The feeling was making his skin crawl, like they knew he was hiding something and they wanted to know what it was.
The ticking of the clock on the wall had Light bouncing his leg, the feeling of Aoto's eyes on the back of his head making the hair on Light's arms stand on end. Light keeps an eye on the clock wanting to be done with this day, to go back home and start his nightly watch of Shouta's house.
Aoto leaned over to whisper something to Light but was cut off by the school bell and Light quickly standing from his desk. The quick movement had Aoto jerking back, his dark eyes wide as he watched Light pack his things away in his bag and practically running from the classroom.
"What the hell?" Aoto whispered to himself.
Light walked quickly out of his school, he could hear Aoto calling out to him but he pretended to not hear the other teen. Light made his way to Sayu's school, he saw her waiting for him at the gate with her friends talking.
"Sayu!" Light called out, his had gripping his bags strap tightly.
Sayu's head turns to him, a smile on her face they seemed to freeze looking at him. Light watches as one of Sayu's friends seem to also grow concerned looking at him, he watches his sister shrug her shoulders saying something to her friends before walking over to him.
"What was that about?" Light asked, starting to walk towards their house.
"Nothing," Sayu said, her voice quiet, "It's just..."
That had Light raising an eyebrow.
"It's just?"
Sayu sighed.
"Are you sure you're ok?" She asked, "You just seem really tired and you just don't seem well, Light."
Light internally groaned at his sister's concern.
"Like I told Aoto this morning, I'm just having an off day." Light said, keeping his voice even.
The conversation stopped at Light's words, never picking back up the rest of their walk home.
Light opens the front door for Sayu who quickly takes off her shoes and runs upstairs to her room. Light sighs, feeling exhausted from everyones questions and his own sleepless night. Taking his own shoes off and making his was to the kitchen, he sees a note on the fridge.
'At aunt Hana's. Leftovers in the fridge, leave some for your father -mom <3'
The note had Light softly chuckle and open the fridge to get some leftovers, his stomach reminding him that he hardly ate anything at breakfast or lunch.
Light quietly brought his dinner up to his room, closing his door he locks it, keeping the lights off as he sits on his bed to watch Shouta's house.
The house was normal, Light could see Shouta walking around his house doing normal stuff like watching TV, occasionally getting up to throw something away or writing in a note book. Light starts to relax, taking the occasional bites from his plate he continues to watch.
A few minutes or hours, Light doesn't know but it was long enough that his mom was back and knocking on his door.
"Light?" Sachiko's voice called through the wooden door.
Sachiko stands outside her older child's door, her hands clasped together as concerned fills her chest.
"Are you ok?" Sachiko asked.
The older woman jerks back slightly when the door was open a crack showing her, her son's tired eyes and messy hair.
"Yeah mom, I'm fine." Light says, his voice soft.
Sachiko's brown eyes look at Light's face, darting to from his messy hair to the dark circles.
"How about you get some sleep early tonight," Sachiko says, her own voice soft as she looks at him, "I'll tell your father you're not feeling to tonight."
Light nods his head slowly.
"Yeah, I don't really feel good anyways," he said opening the door more, "can you take this to the kitchen, please?"
Light holds out the plate he ate from. Sachiko smiles and gives him a nod before grabbing the plate.
"Of course," Sachiko said, "I'll check on you before I go to bed."
Light gives his mom a soft smile.
"Ok, love you mom."
The words fill Sachiko's chest with warmth.
"I love you too, sweetheart."
Sachiko turns to walk down the stairs and hears Light's door close with a click, she sighs feeling like her son was hiding something from her but not knowing how to help him.
Sachiko places the plate in the sink and started washing the dishes, her thoughts swirling around her head causing her not to hear the front door opening and closing with a call from her husband.
Sachiko startles when she feels a hand on her waist, she snaps her head to look only to see Soichiro standing behind her.
Sachiko let out a sigh of relief.
"You almost gave me a heart attack." The short haired woman said, with a shaky chuckle and a soapy hand on her chest.
"Guess you're head was in the clouds," Soichiro chuckled, "How have you been today?"
Sachiko gives her husband a quick kiss.
"I've been good, I visited Hana today."
Soichiro let out a hum at her words, rolling up the sleeves of his bottom up white shirt to start drying the dishes.
"And how is your sister?" The older man asked, gently placing a now dry plate onto the neat stack, "I haven't heard from her in awhile."
"She's doing better, she's starting to date again." Sachiko said, handing him a wet clean plate.
"That's good, after that no good husband of her's left I was worried she'd be by herself."
Sachiko giggles at her husband's words, remembering how much he hated her sister's husband.
"Are the kids home?" Soichiro questions, his mustache moving with his top lip, "It's pretty quiet, I would've heard them arguing by now."
Sachiko sighs, her hands stop moving in the soapy water.
"Light's sick and Sayu is in her room," Sachiko says as she pulls the plug of her sink, letting the water drain, "I think Sayu is upset that Light's sick."
"Light's sick?" Soichiro said looking at his wife with concerned eyes, "I can't remember the last time he got sick, no wonder Sayu might be upset.
Sachiko nods, leaning into Soichiro's side.
"Light looked horrible, hair messy and the darkest circles under his eyes," Sachiko said, "I'm going to check on him and give him some medicine before we head to bed."
Soichiro wraps his arm around his wife and gives her a kiss on the head.
"I'm sure it's just a cold," Soichiro said, giving Sachiko a small squeeze, "he'll be back up and talking about being a cop before you know it."
Sachiko gives him a soft laugh, leaning deeper into her husband's hold but still worried about their oldest.

Light has gotten in the habit of looking out his window to people watch, his family has lived in the house since he was born so he knows everyone in his neighborhood and has talked to them at least once.
It started on a Friday night, he was looking out the window when he noticed a new pipe on the house across the street, well didn't look like it was a new pipe from what Light can see, it was an off white, almost grey, kind of like it's been there for years. He keeps looking, he doesn't know how long he's been staring out his window but it must've been a long time since he sees his neighbor get home from work.
His neighbor was named Shouta and was a middle aged, he moved in when Light was 12, he had shoulder length black hair that was starting to grey at his temples and a "fuck the government" attitude that Light always thought was cool.
Light watched as Shouta walked up his own driveway, his shoulders slumped with a tiredness that comes with having a job that drags through the morning and afternoon. The older man unlocks his door, steps inside and closes the door so Light loses sight of him, Light looks back at the pipe and is surprised to see it was gone, it shocks Light so much that he starts questioning himself; did he even see a pipe? Was it a trick of the light? Is the amount of homework he brings home starting to get to him? He doesn't know but he doesn't like not knowing what he was looking at.
That night was when Light started watching his neighbor, from the time he wakes up, to the time he gets home from school Light watches the older man, the teen has even started a notebook on the things he's noticed like how Shouta has started being jumpy, the long haired man has started being startled by noises, sirens, honking horns and even an ice cream truck had the man jumping and running to the window to look around before sitting back down on his couch or bed. Light also notes how he hasn't seen the pipe in about a week but he knows that it wasn't his imagination.
Monday arrives and Light is on the bus home, a stop and he sees Shouta getting on, the man looks around for a seat and sees one next to Light, the man smiles and sits next to him.
"Light!" Shouta greets, "It's been so long since I've seen you, you've gotten tall.”
Light chuckles at him, "You saw me last month at my birthday party." Light said, shaking his head.
"Yeah, but that was so long ago," Shouta groans, reaching a hand over to ruffle Light's brown hair, "How's your mom?"
"She's doing good.”
The two talked quietly on the bus ride home, they got off and started walking. Light started feeling like he shouldn't be walking with Shouta, that something was telling him to get home as quick as he could but before he could open his mouth to say something he was shoved to the ground, his head bouncing on the pavement on the road. Light was dazed and could hear Shouta say something but he couldn't make it out, he could see the man had his phone to his ear and had the look of fear on his face but that wasn't on Light's mind, what he was worried about was who shoved him into the street? There wasn't anyone walking around in their neighborhood and Shouta was in front of him.
An ambulance came and the EMT's looked Light over, they said he had a concussion and should be watched over for a few hours, Shouta said he could stay at his house till either Light's mom or dad gets home but something was telling Light to get home, to not go to the man's house but he didn't listen, he just nodded and followed the man to his house.
The house was like any other house, it was tidy with a few books on the table and they looked well loved by how the spines were cracked showing how often Shouta read them.
Shouta had Light sit on the couch and left to get tea. Light kept looking around till his eyes landed on the middle of the table, it had a web pattern on it and it seemed to shift and move. Light's gaze was taken away from the pattern when a mug of tea was put in his line of sight.
"Here, something to warm you up." Shouta said, handing the boy the mug and sitting down next to him.
Light takes a few sips of the tea, his head pounding and his gaze slipping back to the table.
Shouta must've seen Light's gaze drift back to the table and started rambling about how he found it at a second hand store since he doesn't buy new furniture anymore and especially clothes. Light lets the sound of his voice go in one ear and out the other, the pattern calling out to him.
"Hey, do you need any notebooks?”
The question snaps Light out of his thoughts.
"Huh?”
"I ordered a new notebook a few days ago and it turned out to be a pack and I don't need the other two," Shouta said with a shrug, “I thought since you're still in school you might need them more.”
Light's headache was beating painfully in his skull, he could understand Shouta but it was like he couldn't focus on what to say so he just nodded. Shouta had him follow him upstairs to his room. The room was slightly messy with some clothes thrown on the floor, Shouta’s bed unmade and the bookshelf having books just shoved on the shelves.
Shouta walked up to his bookshelf and started pulling out notebooks, he looked through them and when he saw writing in them, he'd shake his head, mumble to himself before putting them back.
Light watches him do that a few times before he starts looking around the room again when his eyes catch hooks on the bedroom window.
“What do you grow?” Light asked, his voice a bit slow from his headache.
Shouta looks at him from over his shoulder, his eyebrow quirked up.
“What do you mean?”
“I saw the hooks from your…” Light's voice drifts off as he looks at the window again, the hooks he saw from what he thought was a planter were gone, “Oh, sorry I thought I saw a planter.”
Shouta chuckled and went back to looking at his notebooks.
The pit in Light's stomach seems to grow bigger, the voice in the back of his head yelling at him to leave.
“Hey, I think I should head home.” Light mumbles out.
Shouta turns to the teen, notebooks in hand, a concerned look on his face.
“Are you sure? It hasn't been enough time to leave you alone,” Shouta said, looking out the window, “And I don't see a car in the driveway at your house.”
Light nods, “Yeah, I have some chores to do before Mom gets home.”
It takes a few more minutes to talk Shouta into letting him leave with a concussion, Light started to feel a bit better when he walked out of the man's house.
“You have my number so call me if you start feeling worse.” Shouta said, concern still prevalent on his face.
“I will, thanks for the tea and notebooks.” Light said, a small smile on his face as he hugs the notebooks to his chest.
Shouta grins at him and shakes his head.
“Don't thank me for doing the bare minimum,” he said, leaning on his door, “I'm sure if I had a concussion you'd do the same.”
Light gives a quiet chuckle and nod.
“I'll see you around.” Light said, turning around to walk to his house across the street.
“Later!” Shouta calls out to the teen, waiting for Light to walk into his house before shutting his own door.
Light shuts the door, locking it and leans against it. The pounding in his head seems to have lessened since he left Shouta’s. Light went to the kitchen to get himself something to eat.
Light's mom got home with his little sister, something told Light to keep his injury to himself so he just listened to his mom talk about Sayu’s playdate. The night dragged on till Light finally went to his room, he places the notebooks that Shouta game him on his desk, sitting on his bed with a sigh Light had his thoughts running around his head; What was that thing? Did Shouta know about it? Light doesn't know but he's scared.
Light hardly slept through the night, nightmares had him jerking away with a gasp, sweat wetting his hair.

Tags: kidnapped Jon, hurt/comfort, alive Danny (kinda) Stranger Avatar Danny, it/it's pronouns for Danny for a bit, fix-it (kinda???), that moment when you're saved by your dead boyfriend, not shown but Tim definitely tries to kill Danny after.
Jon didn't know how long it's been since he was taken by the Circus, days? Week? There were no windows to see the sun setting but Jon does know that the seat he has been forced to sit in is hurting his back. A sound of the door to the room unlocking has the man flinching, he wonders who it was, Breekon and Hope? or Nikola herself?
The light of the door opening has Jon squinting trying to see who it was, the door shuts and footsteps grow closer. Jon blinks his eyes quickly, trying to get them to get used to the dark again after being exposed to light. The footsteps stop in front of the thin man, looking up at the tall body and finally settling on a face Jon thought he'd never see again.
“hmmgh?!” Jon's muffled gasp was heard through the cloth wrapped around his mouth.
In front of Jon was Danny, the same messy hair, jeans, a T-shirt now sporting a small clown on it now, nothing that Danny would've actually worn back then.
“Jon,” The thing wearing Danny's skin said in a soft tone, making Jon tense. It looks him up and down and clicks its tongue, “You look like you've been through hell.”
Jon can feel tears prickling his eyes, the sadness, anger and deep into the bone exhaustion hitting Jon all at once.
“Hmgh! Mmhm!” Jon grunts into the cloth, his shoulders shaking as panic claws at his stomach.
It leans down to lean closer to Jon's face, “Shhh, Jon,” it hushes, “I can't take the cloth off if you're making loud noises.”
Jon's toxic green eyes look into the things eyes, the glass eyes that were a deep brown like Danny's but hold no light like his, blank, lifeless. Jon quiets down, his shoulders still shaking and his hands balled up into fists, digging his nails into the palm of his hands.
“That's right,” it says, bringing a hand slowly up and behind Jon's head, untying the cloth, pulling it away, “See? It's off.”
“W-why-” Jon tried asking.
“Ah, no questions Jon,” it says with a chuckle, “I don't feel like being forced to talk.”
Jon nodded his head, his eyes looking all over the thing's face, the mole on the right side of its jaw, the little scar on its left eyebrow was all the same, nothing on its face wasn't wrong but it's eyes. Windows to the soul and what not he guesses.
“Jon?” It says, leaning back into Jon's space, “Don't you recognize me?”
“D-Danny…” Jon whispers out, his voice shaky with emotion.
It grins at him, showing off Danny's crooked smile and missing tooth, “Right!” It practically chirps, “I heard you were here and I needed to see you.”
Jon makes a confused sound, it technically wasn't a question so it should be fine… right?
The thing chuckles at the sound, “Of course I needed to see you, Jon,” it said, kneeling down beside Jon's chair, “I haven't seen my boyfriend in years so I wanted to see what you looked like now.”
Jon shakes his head, his hair now shaggy, more grey hairs than he had years ago and greasy, clothes baggy and holy from being forced off to put lotion on his body.
“Not looking too good at the moment, I'm sure.” Jon stated, a brittle chuckle spilling from his lips.
“You're different,” it says, bringing a hand up to a strand of Jon's shaggy hair, giving it a quick tug, “You look tired, you were already skinny when we first met and now you're even thinner and your eyes.”
“Their green,” Jon says, trying not to flinch away from its hand, “They've changed after… everything.”
It nods, looking like it was trying to take in everything of Jon, “Yes, their green.” It says, the grin sliding off its face as it keeps looking.
The room grew quiet, the two looking at each other, it still holding on to Jon's hair.
“I'm not the same either,” it said, pulling its hand away, standing to its full height, “Definitely not the same from when we met.”
“You look the same,” Jon says quietly, “You're hair and your smile.”
It shakes its head, “The things I've done are definitely not something I would've done years ago.”
Jon opens his mouth but quickly snaps it closed again, hard enough his teeth clicked.
The thing chuckles but the sound was more empty, “I've killed people, people I even once called friends,” it said, making Jon's eyes widen, “I've stalked people, helped skin them and scared people bad enough that they've killed themselves.”
The thing's voice was dull as it confessed to its crimes, it's eyes never leaving Jon's.
“I don't regret it either,” it says, “I felt good doing it…” it trailed off.
“Taking statements,” Jon says quietly, “It, God, they feel good to read and take.” Jon's own confession shocked himself.
It was quiet again, Jon's eyes holding questions he wanted to ask, the hunger gnawing at his stomach worse than it's ever felt.
“I moved that memory box from its spot a few years ago,” Jon said, his fists loosening, falling flat on the chairs armrests, “It was too painful to keep.”
The thing's eyes widened, its mouth dropping, “The memory box that we buried in the planter in your apartment?!” It gasped out, “The same memory box we planted hoya kerrii over to symbolize our unending love?!”
Its voice grows angrier and angrier as it keeps talking. The tears in Jon's eyes finally start flowing down his cheeks.
“Only Danny knew that,” Jon sobbed out, “Danny, you're-”
Jon's voice is cut off by sobs, heart aching, painful sobs, his shoulders shaking and his head bowed down, his hair covering his eyes.
Danny watches Jon cry, his eyes still wide, “You didn't think I was-”
“No,” Jon sobbed out, “After what happened to my friend Sasha, I didn't know if you were actually you.”
Jon looked back up at Danny, his green eyes shining with the tears that were flowing down his cheeks, “You're actually Danny.” Jon says with so much love in his watery voice, shocking the other man.
“Didn't you hear me? I killed people,” It hisses, “I'm not the same man that you fell in love with.”
“Don't you dare say you're not the same person!,” Jon snaps back, the bonds wrapped around his middle keeping him seated, “You're always my boyfriend, you. Are. Mine!”
Jon pants from his outburst, the first one he's had since he was put in this dark room. Danny watches Jon, shock written on his face even with his blank eyes.
“You still love me.” Danny breaths out.
Jon nods, “I'd even fall in love with you over and over again,” he says, a soft smile on his tear stained face, “No matter how long it's been.”
“Jon.”
“Danny.”
The other man quickly made work of the bonds keeping Jon in the chair, untying the knots and throwing the ropes down onto the concrete ground. Danny pulls Jon up and wraps his arms around the smaller man, burying his face into his greying hair and just breathing in the other man.
Jon wraps his arms around Danny's middle, his face in his chest, Jon notes that the normal soft muscle that he used to nuzzle into was replaced with hard plastic under soft skin.
Danny pulls back, bringing a hand to Jon's face, brushing a thumb over the pock marks made by the Corruption.
“I love you too.” Danny whispers, leaning down and capturing Jon's lips, trying to tell how much Jon still holds his dead heart in his hands. Jon's tears haven't stopped since they started, wetting the kiss as he feels the same warmth he used to every time they kissed. They pull back from the kiss, Danny looks back at the door to the room.
“Nikola won't be back for a few more hours so it gives us time to get you out of here.” Danny said, turning his head back to Jon.
“You're going to get me out of here?” Jon asked with a gasp.
“Yes.” The words forced out of Danny's throat, making him shake his head with a grimace, “Jon, no questions.”
“I'm sorry,” Jon said quickly, “I don't know how to stop it.”
“You'll learn,” Danny said, soft smile on his face, “There's an emergency exit behind those crates of mannequin parts.”
Danny points behind Jon, turning his head to where Danny was pointing Jon can see six crates in front of a door.
“Just let me move them and I'll have you back at the Magnus Institute in no time.” Danny says, helping Jon back into the chair since Jon's legs were shaking from not having enough use.
Jon watches Danny move the crates like they were nothing but boxes filled with plushies, Danny was strong as a human but now it was like he got even stronger. Danny turns around after moving the last crate and smiles at Jon.
“Ready to leave this popsicle stand?”
Jon nods, “Get me the hell out of here.”
Danny laughs, walking over to Jon, picking him up bridal style, he opens the door and an alarm starts ringing out, cursing under his breath Danny starts running.
“Archivist?!” Nikola could be heard yelling as the door shuts behind the two men.
Danny's pace never slows down, his breathing doesn't even change as he runs. Jon holds on to Danny's shoulders as he watches the other man's face, brown glass eyes facing forward as he focuses on where he was going.
“You know about the Institute.” Jon states, not a question but good as any.
“Everyone knows about the Magnus Institute,” Danny says as he turns a corner, “Everyone also heard when it got a new Archivist and I was surprised when Nikola described you.”
“I started working there because…” Jon trails off, the sound of Danny's sneakers slapping against the pavement as he runs across the street echoes through the empty streets, the streetlights the only thing helping Danny see in the night.
“Because of me?” Danny asked.
Jon sighs, “Yes, because of you.” His voice still watery from his earlier crying.
“I'm sorry.” Danny says as his running slows to a jog as he sees the Magnus Institute getting closer.
“It's not your fault,” Jon says, “I was already thinking about working there.”
“But I was your final push.”
“Yeah.”
Danny stops at the front of the building's doors, putting Jon down so he can stand on his shaking legs.
“You were gone for a month,” Danny says, “I'm sure your assistants will have some questions for you.”
“A month,” Jon breaths out in shock, before realizing Danny didn't know about his brother, “Tim-”
“Works here too, I know,” Danny says, “I've been keeping up with him from far away.”
Jon keeps his arms wrapped around Danny's shoulders, keeping him leaning down, his legs shaky from not using them.
“I have to go.” Danny whispers, tugging on Jon's arms, trying to get him to let go.
“No,” Jon shakes his head, “You can't leave me, no again.”
“I'm a monster-”
“You're Danny.”
They stare at each other, trying to get the other one to listen to them.
“Tim will hate me being there.”
“I don't give a damn.”
Another staring contest before Danny sighs and nods, “I couldn't ever tell you no.”
Jon smiles, “You always did what I say.”
Danny picks Jon up again, holding him in his arms as he opens the door to the Institute, they don't know what the future holds but they have each other again and that is all that matters to them.
The doors shut behind them with a gentle click and the sun starts to raise on a new day.
Tags: hurt/comfort (kinda), angry tim, sad jon, there was only one bed (platonically), forgiveness felt through talking to your dead brothers ex boyfriend.
Tim was practically throwing his bag into the corner of the room, his lip pulled into a snarl as he saw the one bed.
“Not only do we have to both stay in one room but that prick couldn't give us two beds?” Tim said, his voice full of anger.
Jon places his bag on the chair next to a desk, he looks around the room and sees that it there was in fact only one bed making him sigh, turning his eyes to Tim he sees the man almost pacing the room, his shoulders tense and his thumbs typing quickly on his phone, probably in the group chat that everyone made that didn't have Jon in it.
“What side do you want?” Jon asked, just wanting to get it out of the way.
Tim's head snaps towards Jon, his movements stopping all together.
“What side do I want?” Tim hissed, “What makes you think I'll let you sleep in the bed?”
Tim's anger filled words almost have Jon flinching, a cold sweat making its way to the back of Jon's neck.
Jon brings a hand up to his long hair to give a strand a gentle tug, “I j-just assumed-”
“Well you need to stop assuming,” Tim said, sliding his phone into his back pocket, “All you've been doing is assuming and it's always wrong.”
Jon nods, “You're right, I'm sorry.” Jon says, his voice slowly growing quieter as he talks.
Tim just shakes his head, disgust in his eyes almost making Jon tremble with words that he always wanted to tell Tim on the tip of his tongue but knowing that the man wouldn't want to hear anything from the shorter man.
“I'm taking a shower,” Tim says, turning around towards the bathroom before stopping, “Keep your freaky eyes out of the bathroom.”
With those parting words, Tim enters the bathroom, slamming the door shut and leaving Jon by himself.
Jon stands in the middle of the room, hearing the water starting in the shower. The room was dim, a small light on the corner occasionally flickering for a second, Jon goes back to the chair that he put his bad on, picking it up and sitting on the chair with his back now on his lap, waiting for Tim to come out and tell him if he's actually going to have him sleep on the floor.
Jon digs into his bag for his phone, not to text anyone (not that anyone would answer his texts anymore) but to go through his notes. Jon scrolls through his notes app, seeing all the things he'd have to do to stop the Unknowing, as he keeps scrolling he starts seeing notes from when he just started as head archivist, some of the notes even had him chuckling as he read ‘Get book on how to act professional.’ he was really trying to be a good boss in the beginning.
Jon keeps looking through the notes, some from his days in research and… Jon's thumb pauses in its swiping, his now green eyes widening as he reads a note he completely forgot about, it was just something he quickly threw into his notes one evening, not thinking it would be the last note that would be his complete downfall into the Fears. Jon's head snaps up as he hears Tim opening the bathroom door making him lock his phone.
Tim walks out in shorts and a T-shirt, drying his hair with the towel in his hand and texting with the other. Tim glances up towards Jon and rolls his eyes at Jon sitting in the corner.
“I didn't actually mean you can't sleep on the bed.” The man grumbles and starts walking towards the bed, sitting down and dropping his other hand to his phone, leaving the towel draped on his head.
The sight of Tim sitting on the bed with the towel on his head had memories of Jon telling a man to not keep a damp towel on his head, that it could make him stick and the man laughing at Jon's stern caring that he normally does. The thought causes Jon to close his eyes tightly, shaking his head before getting up and walking towards the bed.
Tim was now laying on the left side of the bed, over the covers, towel now laying on the pillow to keep it dry. Jon pulls the covers back enough to shimmy under them, his back turned towards Tim.
Jon can feel the tension grow as he lays beside Tim, he can hear Tim tapping at his phone faster and faster, turning his head and opening his mouth to ask if Tim was ok, he was interrupted.
“I don't want to hear anything out of you.” Tim said, his voice no longer a hiss but still holding anger.
“I just-”
“No Jon.”
“But-”
“I said no!” Tim snapped, his head now turned to look at Jon, “Nothing you can say can be anything good.”
Jon sits up and turns to look at Tim, long hair a mess and the shirt he was wearing practically swallowing him whole.
“Tim, really I need to talk to you about-”
“About what?” Tim asked harshly, now sitting up also, “What could be so important that you can't keep your mouth shut?”
“It's about Danny-” Jon was interrupted once more, his face falling as he saw Tim's eyes flash with anger and hate.
“Dont, you have no right to talk about my brother,” Tim growls as he leans close to Jon's face, “You don't know me and you don't know him-”
“Yes I did!” Jon says quickly, cutting Tim off, “I-i did know him.”
Tim blinks at Jon before anger fills up inside him again.
“Your freaky Eye God tell you that? Huh?” Tim hissed, his face red with anger.
Jon shakes his head, “No!” Jon quickly denies, “I swear the Eye didn't tell me.”
Tim shakes his head with a bitter laugh and leans back from Jon.
“You're a shit liar Jon.”
“I can prove it.”
That has Tim's interest peaked, looking back at Jon, he can see the desperation on the smaller man's face, the face of someone just wanting someone to believe them.
Tim clicks his tongue and waves his hand in a quick flick, “Alright then, show me your proof.”
Jon pulls out his phone, going into his photo library, he's swiping through the photos as fast as he can as he feels Tim's anger almost spilling out of the other man's skin, Jon stops and pulls up a picture to show Tim.
“See?” Jon says as he turns his phone around to Tim, the picture showing Jon and another man in front of what looks to be an abandoned building.
Jon's hair was longer in the picture, his clothes also nothing like he wore to work everyday but Tim's eyes weren't on Jon, they were on the man that looked like Tim, his dark hair messy, his brown eyes the same shade, his arm wrapped around Jon's waist and wearing the T-shirt that Jon was now wearing.
“Thats-” Tim starts but was cut off.
“Danny, yes.” Jon agrees, Jon swipes his thumb to another picture.
This time the picture showed Danny standing on a bed, he's mid talking staring at the person taking the picture, a grin on his face showing off the missing tooth that Tim accidentally knocked out when they were playing tag like children one day.
Another swipe showing Tim another picture, this time taken by someone else so it was Danny and Jon sitting on a couch, Jon was in Danny's lap, Jon's back against the armrest, Danny's arm around his waist again and a hand on his thigh, keeping him from falling in the odd position as he listened to someone talk.
The pictures had Tim in a state of shock, his little brother and his ex friend knew each other and from what it seems, they knew each other pretty well.
“How did you…” Tim's word's trailing off as he keeps looking at the picture, at Danny's calm and happy face.
“We met at an abandoned shop,” Jon says, “I was there sitting on the steps smoking in the dark when he stopped and asked me if I knew if the locks were unlocked.”
Jon chuckles at the memory, “I looked at him like he was an idiot before telling him I had no idea since I was just there for a smoke,” Jon continues, “He actually tried the door and it opened, he had me curious so I followed him, he explained he was into urban exploring and how the shop was on his radar for awhile. After that we exchanged numbers and if he wanted to explore he'd call me and I'd meet him, after a while the calls stopped being just about exploring and were now about lunch, movies, meeting friends and....” Jon's voice finally trails off.
Tim is silent as he listens to Jon talk about his brother, how they met and how they went from strangers to friends.
“...And?” Tim asked quietly, he knew what Jon was going to say but needed to hear it out loud.
“…And about dates…”
The silence between them was loud, Tim staring at the picture and Jon looking away.
“Why didn't you tell me?” Asked Tim as he looked from the phone, “We knew each other for years and you didn't say anything.”
“I didn't know how to start a conversation like that,” Jon admits his head still turned away from Tim, “I could tell you were still hurting and I didn't want to cause anymore pain so I just kept quiet.”
Tim shakes his head in disbelief, “You dated my brother.” Tim says softly in shock.
“Yes,” Jon says, turning his head back around to look at Tim, “He wanted us to meet after he…”
Tim knew, how could he not know, Danny talked about having dinner the week after his last exploration so Tim could meet someone he's been talking to, the light in his little brother's eyes was so bright, almost too bright if you asked him.
“You'll like him, Tim,” Danny said as he packed, “He's got some pretty dry humor that I'll know you'll like.”
Tim laughed, shaking his head, “You are so whipped.” Tim said through laughter as he watched Danny through his backpack on.
A buzz came from Danny's phone and the younger man was quick to look at it before giving a small whine.
“Aw, he said that he couldn't come with this time, seems like he's running a fever,” Danny said, as he typed on his phone before looking at Tim, “He did say he should be better by dinner this week.”
“Yikes, sudden fevers suck,” Tim says sympathetically, “Tell him I said I hope he feels better and I can't wait to meet him.”
Danny nods as he types, another buzz comes from his phone making him laugh.
“He said thanks and that he can't wait to meet you too, he also said that I need to be careful and to keep my mask on in case of mold,” Danny reads with a laugh, “He acts like such a mother hen sometimes.”
“But he is right,” Tim says, handing Danny his mask for exploring, “Mold is no joke, Danny.”
Danny rolls his eyes but grabs the mask anyway, “I'll be fine,” he said as he puts the mask into his pocket, “You two worry too much, I'll be back by twelve.”
And Danny left, that was the last time Tim saw his brother, the last time he talked to him and joked with him and it was probably the last time Jon talked to him.
“When did you find out that Danny…” Tim asked softly, more softly than the last few times he spoke to Jon.
Jon sighs, placing his phone down on his lap face up so he can see Danny's face as he looks down.
“When I saw him in the newspaper,” Jon said, his voice wobbly, “But I knew as soon as he stopped texting me random things he found that something was wrong but I was too sick to get up so I called and called and called, hoping he'd answer.”
Jon brings a hand up to wipe away the tears on his eyes.
Tim looks at the phone in Jon's lap and back at him, “Your hair was short when you started working in research.” Tim said, his tone not accusing or a question, just a statement of something he just noticed.
Jon nods, a shaky sigh spilling out of his lips before he finally looked back at Tim, “Danny really liked my hair long, he was the only reason I didn't cut it since he liked to brush my hair,” Jon said, his hand going up to his shoulder length hair and giving a strand a small tug, “When I saw that Danny was d-dead I wanted to keep my hair long since it was something he loves but when I got expected to work at the institute I… cut my hair.”
Jon's head turned back to look down at his phone, his left hand in his hair and his right hand wrapping around his middle, “I-I didn't want to but I knew that to work there I needed to look professional and I really needed to know what happened to me and what got Danny.” Jon choked out, his body trying to curl into itself as tears dripped onto his still lit phone.
Tim can practically feel the self hatred, sadness and just full on pain coming from the smaller man, his shoulders shaking with his quiet sobs and his hand still tugging on his hair.
“Did you know that the circus was there?” Tim asked, needing to know if Jon knew.
Jon shook his head, “No, no I didn't know.” His voice thick with tears.
“Then what made you thin-” Tim was cut off.
“I had a-a run in with a Leitner, so I-I knew something was out there but I didn't think anything would happen to him.” Jon says, sobbing the last part out.
Tim closes his eyes in pain, his brother wasn't hunted, wasn't ganged up but was just at the wrong place, his stupid younger brother died because he was stupid enough to go alone into an abandoned building with only his phone and a flashlight.
“Do…” Tim sighs, “Do you have any more pictures? Any videos?”
Tim's question has Jon looking back at him, his now toxic green eyes looking back into brown, he nods and picks his phone back up and starts showing Tim all the pictures and videos that led up to Danny asking him out.
The two talked all night about Danny and how he would react to knowing about the fear gods. There was laughter, there was anger, sobs and what almost felt like forgiveness. The next day they didn't talk, the two walked into the Unknowing with a weight off their shoulders.
The Unknowing was stopped but Jon still felt like he lost everything.

Hope you all liked the angst lol, past Danny x Jon is my favorite flavor lately!

[ Chapter 3 ]
............
The woman's nails clacking against her keyboard was the only sound in the waiting room, her brows drawn together and her dark blue eyes hard as she focused on her typing, the ginger haired woman looks at Jon and Tim before her eyes settle on Harry.
“Are you the one that needs to talk to the police, young man?” She asked in a gentle voice.
Harry's nods, staying quiet, his shoulders drawn up almost to his ears.
She nods and types something on the computer, “Can you tell me your name?” The woman asked.
“H-Harry Potter.” Harry stuttered out, his grip on Jon's hand tightening so much Jon was afraid the boy might pop one of his fingers out of the socket.
The woman nods again, “Harry Potter,” she sounds out as she types in into the document, “When's your birthday?”
Harry looks at the woman and looks at Jon, his eyes full of confusion before he looks back at the woman.
“I dont know.” Harry mutters, his small voice full of shame, like it was his fault that he didn't know his own birthday.
The woman's typing pauses for a second before continuing, she turns her gaze to Jon, “Do you know his birthday?” she asked.
Jon nods, “Yes, it's the thirty-first of July.” Jon says, and looks down at Harry, the small boy looking up at him with shock written on his face.
The woman types Harry's birthday into the computer, “Why do you suspect child abuse?” She asked.
“Because my aunt who was raising him called me to take him in before seven thirty or else she'd leave him at the firehouse.” Jon explained.
The ginger woman's blue eyes widened a bit before nodding and continuing to type, “So you are related to Mr.Potter?” The woman asked.
“Yes, he's my cousin.”
The woman nods again and doesn't ask anymore questions, his typing fast. She hits send on the document and picks up the phone that's on the desk, she pushes a button and waits as it rings.
“Officer Scott, I have three people here who are wanting to file a case and I need three officers to take their statements.” The woman said, her voice still light.
She hums a bit in agreement at whatever Officer Scott was saying.
“It's a child abuse case.” She said.
A few more minutes of silence before she nods.
“Exactly, thank you Officer Scott.” She says and hangs up the phone before turning her gaze on the trio in front of her.
“Officer Scott will be out in a moment to take you three to the back where three other Officers will separate you and take your statements.” The woman says.
Harry starts hugging Jon's leg with his empty hand, he buries his face into Jon's slacks and shakes his head.
“I don't want you to leave.” Harry whimpers, hears now soaking through the fabric of Jon's slacks.
Jon kneels down and moves Harry around so he can hug the boy properly.
“I'm not leaving you,” Jon said, his arms tightening around the boy, “I'll just be in another room talking to another cop while you talk with one.”
Harry just shakes his head that's now buried in Jon's shoulder.
Tim puts a comforting hand on Harry's head and runs his fingers through the messy curls.
“We won't leave you, I promise you that.” Tim says gently.
Harry pulls his face off of Jon's shoulder to look at Tim, tears in his bright green eyes.
Harry sniffs wetly, “Pinky promise?” Harry asked, the tall man as he raised his small delicate hand out, his hand in a fist but with his pinky finger held out.
Tim's eyes widened a touch as Harry's words echoed words of someone who was no longer alive. Tim's eyes watered a bit and he held out his pinky and wrapped it around Harry's much smaller one.
“I pinky promise me and Jon won't leave you.” Tim promises, his voice brittle and a ball in his throat, Tim makes a promise to himself he'll never let Harry believe that he'd ever leave him by himself.
Harry smiled, tears still in his eyes as he wrapped his pinky around Tim's, happy the older man promised. The sound of a door opening had the three turning their head to look and saw a tall man in a police uniform, his postur tense, his gray eyes hard as he looked at the trio.
“I'm officer Hamish Scott and I'm here to take you three into the back.” The man said, his voice husky from what Jon recognizes as a smoker's voice since his own voice started getting husky when he smoked.
Jon and Tim stood up, Jon kept a hold on Harry's hand and Tim made sure to stay close beside the boy and let officer Scott lead them into the back. They passed by other cops, some were sitting at desks, some were talking and one looked a bit familiar to Jon but before he could do a double take he was led away from Tim and Harry. Jon turns his head as a female officer leads Harry to a room beside Tim's.
Officer Scott closes the door to the interrogation room and has Jon sit in a chair. Jon sits down on the chair, Jon looks at the officer and really looks at his appearance. Officer Scott has tan skin, his hair black and slick back making Jon think about how Elias styles his hair. Officer Scott sits in the chair across from Jon and in his hand is a clipboard that Jon didn't realize he's been holding.
Officer Scott clears his throat and flips through some of the papers before looking at Jon.
“How are you related to Mr. Potter?” He asked in his gruff voice.
“I'm his cousin, we share a great, great grandfather.” Jon said as he crossed his arms to keep warm, the room was chilly and was making the tips of his fingers feel like they were freezing.
Officer Scott nodded as he wrote that down, “Do you know why Mr. Potter was put in Mrs. Dursley’s custody?” Officer Scott asked.
Jon nods with a heavy heart, “Yes, his mother Lilly died of a gas explosion around Halloween,” Jon said, his throat feeling like a ball was stuck in it, “I knew he was place in Petunia’s custody but I didn't know she still hated her sister to such a degree.”
Officer Scott nods again and writes on the paper on his clipboard, “When did you notice that Mr. Potter was being abused bad enough to take him from her?” The older man asked.
“I didn't,” Jon said “Petunia wouldn't let me visit him, the only reason I found out about the abuse is because I was buying him some new clothes and I saw…” Jon's words trailing off as he remembers the dark bruises on Harry's stomach and the scars.
“You saw?”
Jon sucked in a shaky breath, “I saw a big bruise on his stomach like he was punched or kicked in the stomach,” Jon said, his grip on his own arms tightening as he described Harry's wounds, “He has scars on his back and shoulders.”
The hazel eyed officer’s hand tightens around the pen he was writing with as he writes down what Jon was saying.
“Did you ever suspect Mr. Potter would be abused by Mrs. Dursley?”
“I honestly didn't think that Petunia would sink so low to take her anger out on her dead sister’s son.” Jon said honestly, he knew she probably still held bitterness but never thought she'd abuse the boy or would let her husband hurt her only nephew.
The Officer continues to write, “Why did Mrs. Dursley have such anger towards her sister?” The man asked.
Jon tells the officer the same story he told Tim, how Lilly got into a fancy school, how she got higher grades than Petunia and how Lilly married a young Lord. The officer nods as he writes and writes and writes.
The questions keep going, Jon can feel himself getting tired as the clock on the wall to the right of ticks loudly in the mostly empty room, Jon's hands now rubbing up and down his arms trying to warm himself up in the chilly room. Officer Scott is quiet now, he's reading what he wrote down making sure he wrote everything correctly. The older man sighs and rubs his eyes.
“Hate working abuse cases,” The gray eyed man said tiredly as he shifted through the papers, “Kids shouldn't be hurt like that.”
Jon nods, “Yeah… Harry is so small and I can't even imagine how anyone could raise a hand to the kid.” Jon said quietly, he remembers looking in Harry's eyes, how the child had the look of someone that is forcing themselves not to hope because the last time they did it landed in heartbreak.
The officer stands from his seat.
“Thank you for answering my questions Mr. Sims.” Officer Scott said, signaling for Jon to also stand.
Jon stands and follows the officer as he opens the door and walks out, Jon sees Tim sitting in a chair next to a closed door. Tim's leaned back, his eyes closed and his leg bouncing with nerves. Tim's eyes snapped open at the sound of Jon's footsteps coming closer to him.
Tim sits up looking at Jon with a worried expression, “You ok?” He asked as Jon sat in the chair next to the asian man.
Jon nods with a sigh, feeling more tired than he was when he got the dreaded phone call from his aunt Petunia.
“Yeah, just stressed from everything.” Jon admitted, his voice defeated, the emotional rollercoaster of a day is getting to the long haired man.
Tim pats Jon's back gently with a face full of understanding, his eyes holding a bit of sympathy as he looks at how tired his boss looked. The tired look, the graying hair and the dark green sweater Jon was wearing makes him look older than he is so he probably looks ancient to Tim right now.
“I get it, boss man,” Tim said as he pulled his hand away and leaned back in his chair again. “It's been a long day.”
“Yeah,” Jon sighs, he pulls out his phone and checks the time and sees how late it is, “Jesus, it's almost eleven.” Jon said as he leaned back into his out chair.
Tim let out a small groan and stretched a bit, “No wonder I'm so tired, God damn.” Tim said with a yawn.
The two men sit in the stiff seats next to the room that Harry was in, they watch the clock tick on by, Tim starts pacing and Jon gets a cup of water before they sit back down. When the clock hits twelve thirty the door of the room finally opens showing a brown haired female officer and a tired eight year old.
Harry looked tired and looked like he cried but as soon as his eyes saw Tim and Jon still there, his eyes brightened and a smile grew on his little face.
“You're still here!” Harry exclaimed, running up to Jon and giving him a hug as the older man stood up.
Tim let out a chuckle and patted the boy's messy dark hair, “Of course we're still here, I pinky promised.” Tim said gently.
Harry looked up at Tim with a grin as he hugged Jon's legs tighter.
The female officer cleared her throat causing Jon and Tim to look at her, her brown eyes gentle but stern as she looked at Jon.
“From Mr. Potters statement we can confidently say that Mr and Mrs. Dursley will be brought in and booked,” the officer said as she walks the trio to the door to the waiting room, “Mr. Sims, you are now the guardian of Mr. Potter and you can call anytime to check on how the case is progressing.” She said as she opened the waiting room door.
Jon nods with a thankful look on his face, “Thank you officer.” Jon said as he shook her hand.
“Just doing what's right,” She said with a smile and gestures to the waiting room, “Now get going, Mr. Potter looks like he's about to fall asleep standing.”
At the officers' words, Tim and Jon looked down at Harry and saw him sway on his feet, a hand under his glasses rubbing at his eyes and letting out a big yawn.
Jon feels a swell of warmth fill his heart as he sees the tired boy's actions, he leans down and gently picks up Harry. Harry instantly wraps his arms and legs around Jon and tucks his face into the older man's neck, his breathing soft and his glasses cold against Jon's neck.
Jon gives the female officer a nod and walks into the waiting room with Tim, giving the receptionist a thankful look before walking out of the police station. The two men walk to the car, Jon gently setting Harry in the back and buckling him up before getting in the front, Tim starts the car and starts driving to Jon's apartment.
……..
Tim pulls into Jon's apartment's parking lot, Jon gets out, opening up the back door and getting Harry out, he holds the child as Tim grabs some of Harry's new things.
Tim follows Jon to his apartment, he's curious about how the other lives. Was it messy, did he only have a couch and no TV? Or is he a neat freak? The questions were swirling around in Tims mind as they got closer and closer to Jon's apartment.
Jon struggled a bit to find his keys in his pockets but he got them in his hand, unlocked the door and opened it and walked in.
Tim looks around at a perfectly normal apartment. A small TV, a couch, some pictures on the wall of a smaller Jon and an older woman. Tim could see some statements that Jon brought home on the coffee table next to an empty mug. Tim didn't know what he was expecting but him now knowing what Jon's apartment looks like was kinda anticlimactic.
Jon goes down a small hallway and walks into his room, he pulls back the dark blue cotton blankets, gently laying Harry down, covering him up and taking the boys glasses off, folding them gently and placing them on the bedside table before giving his hair a gentle stroke and leaves the room.
Jon walks back into his living room to see Tim opening up random drawers and cabinets.
“Being nosey?” Jon joked with a chuckle as he saw Tim jump at the sound of his voice.
“Oh- hey boss!” Tim said, stumbling over his words, “I was just… being nosey.” Tim admitted, with a sheepish grin on his face as he rubbed the back of his neck.
Jon shakes his head with a chuckle as he walks into his kitchen and starts making a pot of coffee. Jon can hear Tim follow him into the kitchen, he doesn't say anything, just watches Jon scoop out some coffee grounds, putting them into the filter and closing the top of the coffee maker. The kitchen is quiet as Jon walks around, putting up some sippy cups and plastic cups with the same blue cartoon dog that Harry has taken a shine too.
Tim watches Jon put Harry's stuff away in the kitchen, he watches as Jon washes and drys the small plastic dishes and puts them away next to his porcelain dishes, proof that Harry is now living here in the graying haired man's apartment.
Jon pores two cups of coffee, he sweetens Tim's coffees to the intense sweetness he normally likes and Jon just scoops two teaspoons of sugar into his own mug. Jon hands Tim his mug and blows on his coffee till it was the perfect temperature to sip from.
Tim sips his coffee, his thoughts all over the place, from Harry's abuse to Jon's coming out and to how much Harry reminds him of his little brother when he was that age.
Tim sighs, the night finally catching up to him.
“Why did you call Harry your nephew when he's your cousin?” Tim asked, he's been thinking about that question since he heard Jon call himself Harry's cousin.
Jon shrugged, “it started with Lilly calling me uncle Jon when she was pregnant with Harry,” Jon said “She would talk about how much Harry would love his ‘uncle Jon’ and how much he'll love me reading to him.” Jon's voice trailed off, his voice thick with emotion.
Jon sucked in a shaky breath, “She was like my sister and I feel horrible about not forcing Petunia to let me see him.” Jon said with a dry sob.
Jon places his mug on the kitchen counter, not wanting to spill any of the hot liquid as his hands start to shake.
Tim places his mug beside Jon's and pulls the shorter man into his arms, Jon's head tucked under the taller man's chin, face buried in his chest. Jon's shoulders shake with his silent crying and Tim keeps him wrapped tightly in his arms, whispering ‘It wasn't your fault.’ and ‘He has you now’ into Jon's hair.
Jon pulls back after a few minutes, wiping his eyes with a wet sniffle.
“I'm sorr-” Jon was cut off.
“No,” Tim shakes his head “Don't say you're sorry for crying, it's been a stressful day and if Harry was my cousin, I'd also be crying.” Tim says as he places his hands on Jon's shoulders.
“But I-” Jon was once again cut off by Tim.
“But nothing,” Tim said, his brown eyes holding so much compassion in them, “What your aunt did wasn't your fault and it wasn't your fault for not knowing.”
Jon looks at Tim, his own brown eyes red rimmed and teary still.
“You respected her design to not have you in Harry's life and she broke that little trust by being an abusive cunt.” Tim said, the taller man's words caused Jon to let out a snort.
Tim smiled at Jon's snort, “There you go,” Tim said as he gives Jon's shoulders a gentle squeeze and pulls his hands away, “Just remember that Harry's here with you now and he now has a chance to heal.”
Jon nods, “Yes, thank you Tim,” Jon said, his voice still a bit shaky, “I truly mean that.”
Tim gives Jon a grin and picks up his now slightly warm coffee.
Jon looked at the clock on his microwave and saw that it was two fifteen in the morning.
“It's two in the morning.” Jon said with a groan, feeling the exhaustion seep into his joints and making them ache.
Tim sighs, feeling exhausted from the stressful and emotional day.
“I should head out.” Tim said as he walked to Jon's kitchen sink, pouring out the rest of his cooled coffee.
“You can't dive while you're exhausted, Tim.” Jon said. He walked quickly to the closet next to his front door and pulled out some blankets, “You can sleep on the couch.”
Tim watches as Jon makes up the couch without hearing if the asian man even wanted to stay the night.
Jon pulls out two pillows from the closet before shutting the door and places them on the couch.
“Guess I can stay the night.” Tim said with a laugh, taking his jean jacket off and laying it on the coffee table, being careful to not cover any of the papers on the table.
Jon sees that and starts picking up the loose papers and putting them into a drawer.
“Sorry about the papers, I was reading some statements and checking out some leads when I couldn't sleep.” Jon admitted.
Tim was in the middle of unbuttoning his bright colored shirt, his white undershirt now exposed when Jon admitted following leads when he couldn't sleep.
“Double boss lets you do that?” Tim asked as he finishes unbuttoning his shirt and lays it on his jacket.
“Elias knows,” Jon said as he walks down the hall and walks into his room. Jon picks up some pajama pants that were a bit too big and walks back into the living room, “He even told me Gertrude even went off on her own when she was head archivist.” Jon tells Tim and hands the pajama pants to the older man.
Tim's nose curls a bit, “doesn't sound safe,” Tim says as he takes the pajamas, “Especially at night.”
Jon just shrugs his shoulders, “Bathroom is the door on the left before you get to my bedroom.” Jon directs Tim.
Tim nods and walks to the bathroom, closing the door Tim looks around a bit. Jon has a shower, the shower curtain is a simple white, the walls are a cream color, he has dark blue bathroom mats next to the shower and sink, on the sink is a cup with a toothbrush and razor. It wasn't decorated with pictures like the living room but it was very Jon.
Quickly changing into the gray pajama bottoms and washing his face, Tim carries his jeans in his hands as he leaves the bathroom and heads back into the living room and sees Jon in his pajamas.
Jon's wearing a gray shirt that was definitely too big for the lanky man, it had a ghost cat on it with the acronym ‘WTG’ next to the cat, the pajama bottoms were black and purple plaid.
“Nice shirt.” Tim said, startling Jon.
“Thanks, my friend gave it to me.”
“You have friends?” Tim jokes making Jon roll his eyes.
“Yes Tim, I do in fact have friends.” Jon snarks at Tim with a smile on his face.
Tim snickers as he sits on the couch that he's going to be sleeping on.
Jon walks into the kitchen and grabs two cups, one glass and one in a Bluey themed sippy cup and fills them with water, Jon walks back into the living room and sees Tim laying down and texting on his phone, the older man looks from his phone when he hears Jon walk into the room.
“I'm just letting you know I'm going to bed and that you're welcome to anything in the kitchen.” Jon says gently.
Tim grins, “I'll keep that in mind, boss.” Tim said with a thumbs up before going back to his phone, probably letting Sasha know what's going on.
“Goodnight Tim.”
“Night Jon.
Jon walks down the hall and into his room, the long haired man looks at the small body in his bed and sees that Harry has rolled around a bit, putting down the cups in the bedside table, Jon gently untangled Harry from the blankets and covered him back before laying on the foot of the bed and getting ready to sleep.
“Jon?” Small voice has Jon opening his eyes again, he looks over and sees Harry sitting up.
“Can you…” Harry's quiet voice trailed off.
“Can I?” Jon questioned as he sat up, “You can ask me anything, I won't be mad.”
“Can you… hold me?” Harry asked, his face flushing a dark red, “I had a dream.”
Jon rearranges himself so he's laying next to Harry and pulls him into his chest, the small boy snuggles into Jon.
“What dream did you have?” Jon asked gently, “Was it a good dream?”
Harry's head shook, his face buried in the older man's chest.
“A bad dream?” Jon asked, now concerned since Harry wasn't making any noise when he was asleep.
Harry's head nods.
Jon hums gently, “Oh, bad dreams aren't fun,” Jon says “Do you want to tell me about the dream?”
Harry was silent and still, so still that Jon thought the boy fell back asleep till a muffled voice was heard.
“There was a woman, she had red hair and green eyes like mine.” Harry said, his face still buried in Jon's chest.
Jon's eyes widened as Harry described the woman in his dream. Jon knew who the woman was, it was Lilly, Harry's mother.
“She screamed and there was a green light,” Harry said, his voice a bit shaky, “She said she loved me.”
“Oh, Harry.” Jon croaked out, his arms tightening around the small boy. Harry's body starts to gently shake, tears start to seep through Jon's shirt.
“Why did that woman say she loved me?” Harry asked, his voice so small, so confused and so, so sad.
“Because she was your mom,” Jon said, his own voice shaky and full of sadness, “She loved you so much.”
“If she loved me, why was she a whore?” asked Harry as he pulled his face out of Jon's chest, his eyes full of tears.
Jon eyes almost bulged out from how shocked he was, what the fuck did Petunia tell Harry? Jon thought.
“She wasn't a whore, Harry. She was studying to be a teacher.” Jon explained, his voice brittle from the thought that his beloved aunt's child thought she didn't love him.
“She was?” Harry asked, “What about my dad? Was he a drunk?”
Jon shook his head, “He was training to be a cop.” Jon's voice a bit stronger, remembering how excited Lilly and James were to study and train in the field they wanted to work in.
Harry's eyes were wide, tears still in them, “Uncle Vernon lied?” Harry asked.
Jon nods, “yes, Vernon lied.”
Harry's eyes shine with heartbreak and tears start pouring down his face, the boy buries his face back into Jon's chest and starts sobbing, his body shaking violently from how hard he was crying.
“I thought they hated me.” Harry sobs out.
“They loved you so much.”
“I said I hated them once!”
“I'm sure wherever they are, they know you didn't know the truth and don't blame you.” Jon sooths, his hand brushing through Harry's messy hair and holding him close.
Jon just holds Harry as the boy cried himself to sleep and he continued to hold him tightly as he himself closed his eyes but Jon could've sworn that before he drifted to sleep, he heard a quiet ‘Thank you’ that sounded eerily like Lilly.

[ Chapter 2 ]
Jon stumbles a bit with opening the door with one hand before Harry lets go of his one free hand, Jon walks Harry to Tim's car and Jon can see Tim was leaning against it instead of waiting for them inside.
Tim sees Jon and Harry walk outside, pushing himself off of his car, meets them halfway and Tim grins at Harry.
“Hey there, I'm Tim!” Tim introduces himself excitedly.
Harry hide behind Jon's leg when Tim walked up to them, he grasps Jon's slacks tightly in his hands as he looks up at Tim, he sees the colorful shirt and jean jacket covered in pins that made noise when he walked, his jeans also had a few patches that had pink, purple and blue colors on them. Harry was nervous to be around someone that dressed like the dark haired man since aunt Petunia and uncle Vernon said only freaks dressed like that.
Tim tilts his head at Harry's behavior upset that he scared the kid, his chin length black hair moving with his movement. Tim looks at Jon and sees anger and sadness in Jon's eyes, Tim then moves his gaze to the stuff in Jon's arm, he sees the hole cover clothes and the broken toys. It didn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that Harry didn't have good guardians and that made Tim angry.
Jon sees Tim start getting angry and quickly starts to introduce Harry to Tim so the man wouldn't lose his head in front of the child.
“Harry, this is Tim, my assistant at my job.” Jon says gesturing to Tim with the arm that was full of Harry's belongings “He's going to drive us to the store to pick you up some things before taking us to my apartment
Harry looks up at Jon and then looks back at Tim, Harry slowly comes out from behind Jon's legs still holding Jon's hand in a tight hold.
“Hello.” Harry says softly, the soft shy tone makes Tim smile at Harry again.
“Hello,” Tim says back before looking at Jon, “You ready to go or do you have…”
Tim's words drift off as Jon shakes his head quickly so Harry doesn't see.
“We're ready.” Jon says quickly
Tim just nods and opens the back door to his car and Jon puts Harry's belongings in the back and pushes them closer to the other seat next to the other back door before helping Harry in and buckling him up, Jon closes the door and before he can walk to the passenger door Tim stops him.
“They treated him awful, right?”
Jon nods, “I'll tell you more when Harry's asleep.” Jon says in a soft tone.
Tim nods and gets into the driver's side, Jon walks to the passenger side and gets in, both men buckle up and Tim pulls out of the driveway.
Harry turns around in the back seat and watches the house he was being raised in for most of the life he can remember grow smaller and smaller as the car drives away, Harry waves at the house one last time before Tim turns a corner and Harry can't see the house anymore.
Harry turns back around and looks at Jon's head from behind, the man's hair was long and slightly messy, it had random streaks of gray running through it and Harry wonders if he's really old, Harry's gaze turns to Tim, his hair was long but not as long as Jon's, both had dark black hair, Harry likes their hair and wonders if Jon would let him grow his hair out like his.
Tim glances at Jon and sees him lean his head back against the headrest and close his eyes, Tim can see the dark circles under Jon's eyes seem to get darker after going into Petunia's, Tim wonders how bad it was and if Jon knows.
Jon kept thinking back to the cupboard and the cramped space, it reminded him too much of a few statements he's read about people being crushed or having a fear of tight spaces, it makes Jon sick that Petunia would do that to their nephew.
Tim pulls into a parking lot for a store that sold everything a child would need, Jon opens his eyes as he feels the car stop. Jon looks up at the store and can see all the bright colors a kid would love, he turns around to face Harry and sees him looking at the store with big eyes.
“When we go in and you see anything you like, tell me and I'll see about getting it for you.” Said Jon.
Harry looks at Jon not really believing that he'll buy him what he wants but nods his head anyway.
Jon nods back and unbuckles, “Ok, let's all get going."
Everyone gets out of the car and starts walking to the store, Harry holding Jon's hand tightly as he feels his heart pound as he gets closer to the brightly colored toys in the windows of the store.
The automatic doors open letting the trio inside, Harry instantly sees other kids playing with some toys in the corner of the store in a pen and adults walking with their own kids, getting them clothes and toys.
Jon looked around feeling a bit overwhelmed by all the noise and bright colors. He looked down at Harry and saw in his green eyes that he was excited to be in such a store. Jon looked back at all the children, had a sigh and started walking further into the store.
Tim can see written all over Jon's face that he didn't want to be here and Tim felt bad for taking him to such an overwhelming store but it was the only one that had everything they needed to get Harry to get him comfortable in Jon's apartment fast. Tim grabs a cart and starts walking behind the two dark skinned cousins.
Jon leads Harry and Tim to the home accessories where he can get Harry a few things before he gets him a bed. Jon looks at all the blankets full of cartoon characters or just bright colors, he looks down at Harry who was still just looking around trying to see everything.
“Is there a blanket you think you'll like on your bed?” Jon asks, getting Harry's attention.
Harry looks at all the blankets before his eyes settle on a blanket with two dogs one blue and one orange, Harry looks at Jon and at the blanket not really knowing if Jon would actually get it for him, his aunt Petunia took him on a few shopping trips and acted like she'd buy a toy for Harry only to laugh at him when he actually believed her.
Jon sees Harry glance at the blanket that has two cartoon dogs on them and picks it up, Jon holds it up.
“Is this what you want?” Jon asks softly.
Harry looks at Jon, his green eyes holding hope in them and gives the older man a hesitant nod.
Jon puts the blanket into the cart and picks out a light blue sheet and pillow covers to match.
Tim grins at Harry's choice, “Bluey, good choice Harry!” Said Tim.
Harry looks back at him and gives the man a small smile, happy his choice made Tim happy.
Jon then leads Harry and Tim into the bathroom aisle, picking out Harry's towels, tooth brush, toothpaste and shampoo. Harry ended up staying with the blue colors making Jon wonder if that will become his favorite color for now.
Jon walks Harry into the clothing aisle, Harry picks out some shirts with the characters that Tim told him was from a cartoon called Bluey, Jon picks out some other clothes that would be good for special occasions like a few sweaters and small slacks.
“Ok, after you try these clothes on I'll then take you to the toy aisle.” Said Jon as he walks with Harry to the changing rooms.
Harry's eyes widened at Jon's words, “Really?” Said Harry in a disbelieving tone, “I can get a toy?”
Jon felt his heart break at Harry's tone, looks at him and nods.
“Really, I'll get you a few toys, not just one.” said Jon, hoping Harry can hear the sincerity in his voice.
Harry looks at Jon's face, he looks into the man's dark brown eyes and doesn't see the same hatred that his aunt did or the sick joy she had when she humiliated him. Harry slowly nods his head and whispers out a small thank you.
Jon gives Harry a small smile and leads him to the dressing room, he tells the worker that Harry needs to try on clothes and she starts to unlock the door to the changing room, while she does that Jon looks at Harry again.
“Do you need any help with changing?” Jon asks, he knows how much children like to feel grown up and want to do things themselves since Jon was like that himself at eight.
Harry feels dread pool in the bottom of his stomach, he did need help but he didn't want Jon to see the bruises uncle Vernon left on his dark skin. Harry didn't make eye contact as he nodded his head yes.
Jon looked at the messy haired boy slightly worried when he didn't look at Jon, he looked over Harry and met Tims eyes and saw the same look on the asian man's face.
The worker opens the door for Harry and Jon, the older man holds the clothes in one hand and holds onto Harry's hand with the other hand, Jon leads the younger into the room, closing and locking the door. Jon lays the clothes onto the chair that's in the small room and turns to Harry.
“Which one do you want to try on first?” Jon asked.
Harry looks at the clothes before pointing at the light blue shirt that had only Bluey on it.
Jon nods, “Ok, I'll get the shirt off the hanger and you take your shirt off.” Jon said, turning around to remove the hanger, Jon could hear Harry moving around before a ‘plop’ sound of the shirt falling on the floor.
Jon turns back around with shirt in hand and his brown eyes widen as he looks at Harry, on Harry's arms are the bruises that he saw before the the big bruise on the boys stomach had to be the worst, the bruises was a dark brown with dark purple around it, it looked like someone kicked him.
Harry was uncomfortable, he could see Jon's eyes widen when he saw the bruises, the shirt in Jon's hand almost slipping out of his hand because of the shock.
Jon kneels down so he is eye level with Harry, “Harry, I'm going to need you to tell me the truth.” Jon said “Did Petunia do this?”
Harry shook his head no, his eyes filling with tears. Harry was always told to never tell anyone about what happened at #4 but he's going to be living with Jon now and Harry wants to trust him more than anything.
Jon feels sick to his stomach at the thought of a grown man hurting a child.
“Was it Vernon?” Jon asked quietly.
The tears start slipping down Harry's cheeks and Jon instantly knew the answer, with his own tears in his eyes Jon gently brings his arms around Harry and pulls him into a hug, Harry buries his face into Jon's shoulder, Jon can feel the boy's tears soaking through his dark green sweater as he sobs quietly.
Jon just holds him as he cries cause lord knows how long he's just needed to be held. Jon feels something on Harry's back as he gently rubs his hand up and down the boys back, Jon looks into the mirror that was behind Harry and sees dark scars on his back, they're straight lines running a bit over Harry's shoulders, Jon knew what they were from some statements he's read, they were scars from being whipped with a belt and that's when Jon's own tears start to fall and his hold on Harry tightens a bit.
They stayed holding each other for a good few minutes before Harry pulls back and Jon looks him in the eyes again.
“They won't ever hurt you again.” Jon said, his eyes stern just like his tone.
Harry looked into Jon's eyes trying to find something that said he was lying but saw nothing of the sort, the only thing in Jon's eyes was honesty.
“Thank you.” Harry says quietly to Jon.
Jon gives him a small smile, “I'm just doing what an adult should do.” Said Jon.
Harry shakes his head, “No one did anything when they saw my bruises.” Harry says “Sometimes they said they would help but the next time I saw them they acted like they didn't know what I was talking about.
Jon felt anger at the other adults that failed Harry and at the others that pretended like they would help only to crush that but of trust.
“Well. If you want, I can make a police report and they might need to talk to you about what you've been through.” Jon said, he knew that telling the police would be stressful and he didn't know if Harry would want to talk to anyone else.
Harry thought about it, he's always wanted someone to tell someone that could help but he didn't really want to talk about how his aunt and uncle hurt him, just the thought of telling someone everything they've done to him scares Harry.
Just when Jon was about to tell Harry he didn't have to do it, Harry takes a deep breath.
“I want to tell on them.” Harry said.
Jon gives him a smile, feeling relief Jon nods, “Ok, we'll go to the station after I pay for everything.” Said Jon as he gave Harry a hug.
Harry relaxes into the hug, Jon buries his nose into Harry's messy hair.
“You are so brave Harry.” Jon whispers into Harry's dark hair.
Harry pulls back and gives Jon a smile, looking at Harry's smile reminds Jon of Lilly so much, Harry has Lilly's dimples, her eyes and her smile.
Jon stands up and gives Harry a small smile back, “Ready to try on the clothes?” Jon asked.
Harry nods and Jon starts helping him into the shirt that was still in Jon's hand. Jon has Harry try on the jeans, sweaters, shirts and shorts that Harry picked out and the ones Jon picked, the green eyed boy ended up loving all the clothes which makes Jon happy.
They walk out of the dressing room to see Tim sitting on the waiting bench that was outside the changing rooms messing with his phone.
Hearing the changing rooms door close makes Tim raise his head, seeing the cousins Tim gets up and walk towards them with a grin while he pockets his phone.
“Hey, took you two a while,” Tim said, stopping in front of the cousins. “Did everything fit ok?”
Jon nods, “Everything fits alright, I make sure that some are a bit big so he can grow into them.” Jon said as he put the clothes into the cart.
Tim gets behind the cart again and starts pushing it when Jon was done putting the clothes back into it.
“What aisle are we going through next?” Tim asked and started walking ahead.
Jon walks behind Tim and holds Harry's hand as they walk.
“The toy aisle,” Said Jon, “I don't have any to entertain a child with so Harry's going to pick out a few things.”
Jon can feel Harry's hold on his hand tighten, looking down Jon can see the excitement in Harry's eyes, the boy almost looked like he'd take off running to the toy aisle himself. Jon let out a soft chuckle and kept walking.
Walking into the toy aisle showed Jon that toys changed throughout the years, some things that Jon had when he was younger were taken off the shelfs and other things just changed. Jon looks at all the toys and thinks about how much he can buy.
“Ok, Harry,” Jon said, to get Harry's attention, Harry's eyes met his, “You can pick out about six toys for now and we'll get some more at another time.”
Harry nods, “Ok!” He said with a grin on his face showing Tim and Jon he lost one of his front teeth.
Harry starts looking around and picking things like a small Bluey family set, a butterfly puzzle and some crayons.
Tim let's out a chuckle as he sees the puzzle Harry puts into the cart.
“He's definitely your cousin.” Said Tim, making Jon roll his eyes with a small smile.
“Because I told you I did a puzzle once?” Asked Jon.
Tim nods and looks over at Harry who wandered over to the stuffed animals, Tim notices Harry looking between three stuffed animals that looked like a sandy blonde wolf, a black dog and a stag.
Tim walks over to Harry and crouches down and looks at the animals with him.
“Can't choose which one you want?” Asked Tim.
Harry nods, “Yeah, I want them but I also want other toys.” Said the boy as he kept looking at the stuffed animals.
Tim lets out a noise of understanding, “How about I buy you the stuffed animals and Jon buys the toys you want?” Tim asks with a grin while looking over his shoulder at Jon.
Jon lets out an exasperated sigh before nodding.
Tim looks back to the stuffed animals and grabs the three animals that Harry was looking at.
“Go grab the three toys you want, Harry.” Tim said as he walked back to the cart and placed the stuffed animals in it.
Harry excitedly grabbed the other three toys he was also looking at; a Lego set, a science kit (that Jon was also looking forward to helping with) and a Barbie doll. The doll was dark skinned with braids, she was wearing a yoga outfit with a manual about meditation next to her.
Jon nods as Harry shows him the doll before putting it in the cart.
Jon hears someone scoffing next to him, turning to look he sees a blonde woman, her skin pale, her makeup unblended and her outfit an obnoxious bright blue.
Her thin lips curled in disgust, “You're letting him get a doll?” Asked the woman, in a nasally voice.
Jon raises his eyebrow, “Yes?” He said not really understanding her attitude.
The woman clicks her tongue, “He should want boys toys, not girls.” the blonde woman said as she crossed her arms.
Jon also crosses his arms, “He can pick out any kind of toys he wants,” said Jon “I had dolls when I was his age.”
The woman lets out a groan of disgust, “Of course you did,” the woman huffed, “It made you queer!”
That's when it clicked for Jon, the woman was being homophobic towards Harry because he wanted a doll.
Jon chuckled and shook his head, making the woman angry.
“What are you laughing at?” The woman huffed.
Jon looked at her and with a crooked grin, “I had dolls because I was a little girl.” Jon explained, the woman looked at him up and down with the look of disgust growing more onto her face.
“W-what?” The woman stuttered
Jon shrugged, “yeah, when I was a little girl I had a huge barbie phase so I had lots of dolls.” Said Jon, he can hear Tim snorting behind him.
The woman doesn't even say anything before turning and speed walking away from him. Tim finally lets out the laughs he was holding in when Jon started talking.
“Damn, Jon didn't know you'd lie to defend Harry like that!” Tim laughed.
Jon tilts his head to the side, “what do you mean?” Jon asked, “I didn't lie.”
Tims laughing cut off at Jon's words, “What?” Tim asked.
Jon looked at him confused, “Did I not tell you I'm trans?” Jon asked, Jon thought he told Tim back in research that he was trans but then again he sometimes thinks he told someone something only to realize he only thought about it.
Tim shakes his head, “Nope, I'm pretty sure I'd remember if you told me that boss.”
“Huh. Well, now you know.” Said Jon before walking away from Tim to look for Harry since he walked off before the woman from before spoke, leaving Tim behind as he starts questioning himself since he thought he clocked Jon as cishet.
Tim shakes himself out of his thoughts, pushes the cart and catches up to Jon.
When they found Harry (who was in the craft aisle) they led him to the checkout, the man behind the counter slowly rang up all of Harry's things that Jon was paying for. Jon pays for Harry's things before making room for Tim to pay for the stuffed animals, after Tim pays the three finally walk out of the store with a cart full of bags.
Tim pulls out his keys as they walk up to his car and pops the truck and unlocks the doors for Harry to get in while Jon and Tim put the bags in the trunk, Tim takes the cart back inside while Jon makes sure Harry is buckled and buckling up himself in the front, Tim walks back to the car, buckles up and starts to drive to Jon's apartment before Jon stops him.
“Tim, me and Harry have to talk to the police so can you stop by the station?” Jon asked, as he looked outside at the buildings passing by.
Tim felt a pit grow in his stomach, “Why?” Tim asked, as he turned the car around and drove towards the police station.
Jon turns to look at Harry before looking at Tim, “Harry is being brave and wants to tell them what his aunt and uncle did to him.” Jon said, a small quiver in his voice.
Tims hands tighten around the steering wheel, his face flushing a dusty pink as his heart starts pounding.
“That's very brave of you Harry.” Said Tim, his voice tight but still having a softness to it.
“I don't feel very brave.” Harry mutters and sinks down a bit in the seat.
Jon turns around again to look at him, “Being scared doesn't make you any less brave Harry.” Jon said in a soft tone.
Harry looks at Jon, “Really?” He asked.
“Really,” Jon replied, “I get scared too.”
“So do I.” Tim said, looking at Harry through the rearview mirror.
“Both of you get scared too?” Harry said with a gasp.
Tim chuckles at Harry's gasp, “Yeah, me and Jon also get scared.” Tim said, “But even though me and Jon get scared of something, we both keep going even though we're scared.”
Jon nods, “And that's what bravery is. it's where even though you're scared, you keep going.” Said Jon.
Harry stays quiet and Jon worries that he and Tim might've said the wrong thing. Turning back around, Jon looks at Tim and the older man just shrugs his shoulders before looking into the rearview mirror again to check on the little boy in the back.
Tim pulls up to the police station and unbuckles, Jon looks back to Harry and sees how nervous he looks.
“We don't have to do this if you don't want to,” Jon says, “We can always do it some other time.”
Harry just shakes his head and unbuckles, Jon also unbuckles and opens the car door, when Jon gets out he opens Harry's door and helps him out, closing both doors, Jon holds Harry's hand and leads him to the police station's doors.
Tim opens the door for Jon and Harry, the three walk to the woman working the front desk.
“Excuse me, can we talk to an officer?” Asked Jon.
The ginger haired woman looks up at Jon before sighing.
“Do you need to make a report?” The woman asked.
“Yes.” Tim answered.
“What do you need to report?”
“Child abuse.” Jon said, tired of the questions already.
Jon's answer had the woman actually start doing her job faster, her nails clacking on the keyboard.

[ Chapter 1 ]
“End of statement.” Said Jon as he shuffled through the loose papers of the statement, the feeling of fear still heavy in his chest, it almost felt like the fear the statement giver felt was transferred to Jon when he read it.
As he was about to say his last thoughts on the statement his phone rang, startling the lanky man causing him to jump and snap his head to look at his phone that was on his desk, the number that popped up wasn't a number he recognized but did know the area code.
Picking up his phone he answers, “This is Jonathan Sims.” He said as he stood up to put the papers in their correct place.
“Jonathan Sims? Oh… you changed to that, ok.” Said a nasally voice on the other end of the phone, the voice made Jon pull a disgusted look on his face.
“Hello Petunia, so nice to hear from you, it's been so long.” Jon said keeping his voice leveled to keep the dislike from his voice.
A huff was heard through the phone “Yes, it has but I haven't called for small talk.”
Jon rolled his eyes as he started organizing the statements into some piles on his desk, one to read for later, one to give his assistants to research and one full of ones that didn't give him the intense fear like the others.
“I called to tell you I can't handle him anymore.” Said Petunia with a sniff
The words made Jon stop his organization, he knew who she was talking about, Lilly's little boy, the one who Jon only saw a handful of times before she went into hiding, something about some stalker?
Jon put the papers down sitting back into his rolling chair.
“What do you mean?” He asked in a steady voice but his leg started bouncing with nerves.
A shrill cry was heard in the background of Petunia's phone and her voice in a babying tone “Its ok duddykins, mummy just needs to be on the phone for a few more minutes then mummy's all yours!”
Jon rolled his eyes at her voice ”What do you mean you can't handle Harry anymore?” He asked, his tone irritated.
“I don't want it here anymore, I didn't want it in the first place and it's being…just like her.” Petunia hissed
Jon's stomach dropped at how she talked about Harry and Lilly, she wouldn't even say her own sister's name and was calling her nephew an it, Jon knew Lilly and Petunia didn't have a good relationship but to take it out on her dead sister's son was a new low.
“What do you want, Petunia?” Jon asked, letting his dislike of her seep into his voice.
“I need you to get it and keep it.” Petunia sniffed
Jon closed his eyes feeling a headache start to develop behind them, leaning back in his chair he rubs at his face, Jon thinks of the pros and cons on taking Harry in and how he'd put Harry into school on his archivist wages.
“Hello?” Petunia huffs the tapping of her foot can be heard through the phone.
Jon sighs knowing what he needs to do. “I'll come get him as soon as I leave work.”
“You better, if you're not here by seven thirty we will be taking it to the firehouse and leaving it there!” Petunia snapped before hanging up the phone.
The dial tone was the only sound Jon could hear, the headache that started small at the beginning of the phone call grew into a full blown migraine, setting his phone down Jon took some Tylenol with some of the left over tea that Martin had given him that had went cold, Jon puts the mug down before resting his elbows on his legs and hold his head in his hands. Jon doesn't know how to interact with a child much less know how to raise one. A knock on the office door snaps Jon out of his thoughts.
“Jon, Are you ok? We heard you having an argument.” Said Sasha, her voice sounding muffled through the wooden door. Jon lets out a sigh before getting out of his seat, going to the door and opening it, showing Sasha with a startled look on her face, her hair now sporting purple streaks and her glasses heart shaped.
Sasha was shocked that Jon opened the door, looking at him she saw his long hair was messy in a way that told her he was running his hand through it and his eyes look even more tired than usual.
“Are you ok?” Asked Sasha, her voice soft with concern.
Jon gives a sigh, “I've been better, just got off the phone with my aunt and….it didn't end how i'd expected it to.” Jon slides past her, walking past Tim and Martin as they sit at their desks actually doing the work that Jon gave them.
Both Tim and Martin looked up at Jon's words and watched him go into the break room. Tim raises his eyebrows in surprise at Jon even knowing where the break room is since he's never seen Jon take a break since he became the new archivist. Marin gave Jon's back a sympathetic look since Martin also knew what it was like with difficult family members.
Jon walks into the break room and starts a pot of coffee, his head still throbbing from the migraine Petunia gave him. As he watches the coffee pour into the pot he just keeps thinking about Harry and all the ways Jon could fail at raising him, Jon only had his grandmother as a reference on how to raise a child but Jon now knew how she raised him wasn't the best and how she treated him like an inconvenience then the child of her beloved son.
The coffee maker clicks off making Jon pull away from his thoughts and he pours himself a cup of coffee, the cup he was using is actually a mug that Tim got him on his first day as archivist that said ‘World’s Okayest Boss'.
Jon puts some sugar and some coffee creamer into his coffee and stirs it, taking a sip he sighs at the hot liquid warming his body up, he hadn't realized how chilly he's gotten. Jon hears someone walk into the break room with him, he turns around and sees Tim.
“Hey boss, you're looking more tired than normal.” The taller man said as he walked up to the coffee maker, he grabbed a mug from the cabinet above it and picked out his favorite mug which was a mug that had little frogs with little cowboy hats on their little heads.
Jon sighs as Tim pours himself a cup of coffee, he watches Tim put in way too much sugar and coffee creamer to be healthy before taking a sip.
Tim turns to Jon and leans against the table that holds the coffee maker and electric kettle.
“Ok, tell your favorite assistant what's wrong.” Tim says with a grin.
Jon feels his eye twitch and his migraine pinch the back of his eyes.
“My aunt just called and decided to be an awful person.” Jon says reluctantly.
Jon didn't want to talk about his family troubles but he does realize he might need some help with deciding on what to do with Harry.
Tim tilted his head to the side a bit, he could see that Jon didn't want to talk about his troubles but was doing it anyway. He watches Jon a bit and sees that the shorter man can't seem to stay still, Jon was tapping his fingers on his mug and keeps changing his weight from one foot to the other, seeing all of this tells Tim that Jon is really agitated and nervous so he's going to have to really listen to the dark skinned man.
Tim looked at Jon with concern in his dark brown eyes.
“What's she doing?” He asked, Tim takes a sip of his overly sweet coffee waiting for Jon to talk.
Jon runs the hand that wasn't holding his cup of coffee through his long hair and groans.
“My aunt has decided she can't raise my nephew anymore and wants me to take him in.” Jon says, his voice low so only Tim could hear.
Tim's eyes widened in shock.
“Huh?” Gasps Tim, he places his cup of coffee down on the table behind him and keeps leaning against it.
“She can't raise her son anymore?” Tim asked “Like is she going through money problems?”
Jon shakes his head. “Not her son, her sister's son.” He corrected
“Her sister died a few years ago and she's been raising him but she decided she no longer wants him since he's acting too much like her sister.” Jon explaineds, his voice bitter at Petunia's words.
Tim leans back a bit at Jon's words, he was shocked at someone just giving a child they raised away because they started acting like their dead parent.
Tim crosses his arms as he watches Jon take a sip of his coffee before asking some more questions.
“Did she not have a good relationship with her sister?” He asks, wanting to know if maybe Jon's aunt's sister wasn't a good person.
Jon shrugged his shoulders. “They had a good relationship when they were children but it got worse the older they got.” Jon said as he sat down in one of the chairs in the break room.
“Petunia was always very jealous of Lilly when they were growing up since Lilly got accepted into an elite school when she was eleven.” Jon sighed, still not believing how his day was going.
Tim nods trying to understand everything, he now knows the names of Jon's aunt’s, how one got into a fancy school when she was younger and how her sister became jealous because of that.
“Why would she be jealous of some fancy school?” Tim asked, knowing that fancy schools are still schools but with a pretty bow on them.
Jon shakes his head, his dark hair with graying streaks running through it falling into his face making him brush it out of his eyes.
“She always thought she was seen as second best and that Lilly was ‘abnormal’ so Petunia thought she should be seen as better than her younger sister.” Jon says with a shrug of his shoulders and takes a sip of his cooling coffee.
“It got even worse when Lilly married a young lord that she met at the school, not only that but at Lilly's wedding her new husband thought it would be funny to prank some of the guests and Petunia was one of the guests that was hit.”
Tim lets out an understanding noise while nodding his head now, understanding why Jon didn't like his aunt and why she's now throwing a child at Jon.
“She definitely sounds like a bitch now.” Said Tim, as he walked over to where Jon was sitting and taking a seat across from him.
“Oh, she definitely is.” Said Jon with a bitter laugh. “Petunia was always tattling on me and Lilly when we were younger and getting us in trouble.”
Tim laughed “what did she need to tell on you about? Reading too much?”
Jon laughed “No, actually. She found out I was traveling to their house without my grandmother's permission.”
Tim lets out a surprised whistle at Jon's words.
“How old were you?” He asked “eleven? Twelve?”
Jon shook his head “I was a couple of years younger than Lilly so I was eight when she tattled on me to my grandmother.”
“That young?!”
“Yeah, was grounded for a month because of that stunt.”
“I would expect.”
Tim shook his head with a laugh. “An eight year old Jon, sneaking out and walking to his cousins to play.”
Jon nods “yeah, not the best idea I ever had.” He said with a chuckle.
Tim leans back in his chair and looks at Jon, he sees that the lanky man is no longer as agitated as he was before. Jon seemed more relaxed and seemed happy to reminisce about his time with his cousins. Tim sighs knowing he's going to have to remind Jon about him taking in his cousin's child.
“Do you have a plan for your nephew when you get him whenever?” Tim asked, he sees Jon almost curl into himself and how he looks into his empty coffee mug.
Jon sighs and shakes his head.
“No, not really.” Jon admits almost shamefully. “Petunia told me I had till seven thirty to get him before she left him at a firehouse.”
Tim was angry at what Jon said, he couldn't believe someone could be so awful to abandon their dead sister's son at a firehouse.
“What a fucking bitch.” Tim hissed
Jon sighs “I don't know what I'm going to do Tim.”
Tim can see Jon looking at him, Jon's dark brown eyes begging for him to have answers to what to do and Tim sadly doesn't have the answers.
“What do you want to do?”
Jon looks at him as he says those words, Jon thinks about how much he loved spending time with Lilly and how he saw how much of her in her son when he saw little Harry when he was just born. Jon thinks about how he knows Petunia probably made her jealous of her sister, her nephews problem and how he didn't want Harry to think anything that she said was his fault. Jon looks into Tim's dark eyes and sees that Tim just wants Jon's actual thoughts and he finally comes up with an answer to his question.
“I want to take him in.” Jon says softly, feeling a weight lift off his shoulders.
Tim nods at Jon's answer. “Ok, do you think you'll need help?”
Jon laughs shakily. “I think I'll need a lot of help.”
Tim grins at Jon, his eyes squinting with his big smile.
“Then I'll help as much as I can.” Tim says, making Jon smile at him.
“Thank you, Tim.”
Tim shakes his head. “Thank me when Harry's off to college.” He jokes.
Jon looks at his watch and sees that it's six fifteen making Jon's eyes widen.
“I need to get going if I want to make it to Petunia's to get Harry.” He said standing up.
Tim stands also and follows Jon out of the break room passing Sasha and Martin looking at them in confusion.
“What's going on?” Asks Sasha as Tim passes her desk.
“I'll tell you later.” Tim says as he walks into Jon's office.
Tim sees Jon going around the office picking up all the things he needs to take home, he sees Jon working himself up again.
“I can drive you so you don't have to wait for the train.” Tim says as he keeps watching the shorter man walking around the office.
Jon sighs with relief. “That would be great, Tim” he says to the Hawaiian shirt-wearing man.
Tim nods and walks out of the office to pick up his stuff.
Tim sees Sasha looking at him with concern on her face as he picks up his jean jacket that's covered in pins and grabs his keys.
“Is everything alright?” The dark skinned woman asked, wondering what was happening.
Tim nods “Everything is fine, just need to take Jon somewhere.” Tim says as he starts gathering his things into his bag.
Martin also watches Tim grab his bag with concern, “Is Jon ok?”
Tim pulls his back up and puts the strap over his shoulder and stands straight again.
“Jon's fine, he's just needing a ride to a family members house.” Tim says as he starts walking to Jon office again.
“His aunt's?” Asked Sasha
Tim turns around so he's walking backwards and looking at Sasha.
“I'll explain everything later” Tim says and turns back around. As Tim was about to walk into Jon's office, Jon walked out.
Jon looks Tim up and down and sees he's got his bag with him.
“You've got everything you need?” Jon asks, as he starts walking to the stairs leading up to the rest of the institute.
Tim nods and starts walking with Jon. “Yes boss, even remembered to grab my wallet”
Before they walk up the stairs Jon turns to Martin and Sasha sitting at their desks.
“Since me and Tim will be away for the rest of the day you two can go home early if you both want to.” Jon says to the two assistants.
Sasha can see the stress on Jon's face and doesn't want to keep him from whatever he was doing.
“I'll finish up my work before I go home.” She says with a soft smile, Martin nods.
“Same with me.” The ginger haired man says with a smile.
Jon gives them a nod and turns back around and starts walking up the stairs.
Tim gives Martin and Sasha two thumbs up with a grin before walking up the stairs with Jon.
Sasha snorts at Tim's goofy thumbs up and continues her work.
……
Tim and Jon start heading to Elias’ office, Tim actually having to walk even faster to keep up with Jon because of how fast the long haired man is walking.
“So why are we going to see double boss?” asked Tim
“I have to let him know that I'll be out for the rest of the day so I won't be able to make any statements today.” Jon explains, quickening his pace.
Tim keeps quiet as he tries to keep pace with Jon, he was surprised at how fast he can walk when Tim's never seen the man walk faster than a brisk walk.
The two men make it to Elias’ office door, Jon goes to knock but is interrupted by Elias' voice through the dark oak door.
“Come in.”
Jon stops his fist from making contact with the wooden door and reaches for the golden doorknob.
Tim shivers at Elias' voice “I hate it when he does that.” Tim whispers so only Jon could hear.
Jon opens the door and walks in with Tim following behind him.
Elias was sitting behind his desk, his hands clasped together on top of his desk, his blue eyes almost staring through the two men making Tim want to shiver again.
Elias looks at the two men in front of him, his gray hair slick back perfectly and his suit without a speck of dust on it, he gives Jon and Tim a smile that makes the hair on tims arms stand on end.
“What can I help you two with?” Asks Elias, his voice smooth.
Jon takes the lead and explains to Elias that he has a family emergency and he's leaving work early.
Elias nods in sympathy.
“Of course you can leave early, Jonathan.” Says Elias, his hands staying clasped together on his desk. “If you need anything be sure to call me.”
Jon gives Elias a relieved smile. “Thank you Elias, I'll let you know if anything else happens.”
“Good, now you and Timothy go and take care of that family emergency of yours.”
Jon nods and walks out of the office, Tim was a bit slower since he didn't remember Jon telling Elias he was going with him, Tim could've been coming to ask a totally different question and happened to walk with Jon. Tim shakes his head and starts picking up his pace so he can keep up with Jon.
The two men walk out of the building and into the parking lot, Jon practically sprints to Tim's car, he starts pulling on the handle before Tim could unlock the door.
“Boss, you're gonna have to let me unlock the car first.” Tim says as he pulls his keys out of his pocket.
Jon waits till he hears the car unlock, opens the door and jumps in. Tim walks over to the driver's side and gets in, both men buckle their seatbelts and Tim drives out of the parking lot.
“Where to boss?” asks Tim as he drives down the road.
Jon looks up his aunt's address and tells Tim where to go. Tim nods and keeps driving, it's a quiet drive since Jon was too nervous to start a conversation, his knee bouncing as he starts making a list of things to get Harry on the drive back to his apartment. Tim glances his way from time to time almost to make sure Jon doesn't try to jump out of the car.
Jon's breath catches in his throat as Tim pulls into Petunia's driveway, the cookie cut house's freak Tim out a bit. Jon gets out of the car and before Tim can unbuckle his seatbelt Jon gestures for him to stop.
“Stay here for a bit.” Jon says “I don't want to overwhelm Harry right now”
Tim nods in understanding. “Ok, but if anything happens just shout and I'll come get both of you.”
Jon gives him a thankful smile and shuts the car door. Jon walks up to the front door and gives it a knock, he stands there and waits for someone to open the door.
Jon turns back to Tim's car, he sees the asian man tapping on his steering wheel a nervous habit he does but when Tim sees Jon looking at him he stops his tapping and gives him an encouraging grin. Jon gives him a small smile back before turning back to the door, as soon as he turns his head the door opens up and shows a skinny pale skinned woman, her hair a dull blond and her neck a bit too long.
“Petunia.” Jon greeted in a stern voice.
Petunia curls her lip in disgust as she looks Jon up and down.
“Sims.” she greeted him back, her using his surname makes Jon almost roll his eyes but keeps his irritation in check.
“I'm here for Harry.”
Petunia sniffs at his words. “Of course you are, I wouldn't let you come otherwise.”
Petunia steps back so Jon can step into her house, Jon can see a few things that were left to her after her parents died, as Jon looked around he noticed that all the pictures held Petunia, her husband and her son but none of Harry, the implication of specially keeping him out of the pictures makes a pit in Jon's stomach grow.
Petunia leads Jon to her living room where her son was playing with toys, the blond eight year old looked a bit too big to be healthy for a child his age, the child was smashing small cars around and Jon watches him as the eight year old breaks the door on one of them before throwing it to the side. The child doesn't acknowledge Jon and Petunia doesn't introduce him to Jon.
“Stay here and don't touch anything.” Petunia practically hissed at Jon before turning around and walking towards the stairs.
Jon rolls his eyes at Petunia's back before watching her thinking she was going to go up the stairs to get Harry but to his horror he sees the horrid woman open the show cupboard underneath the stairs and pulling a skinny eight year old child out.
Petunia practically dragged the boy to Jon, the child smaller than children his age, his glasses cracked with only tape holding them together at the bridge of his nose, Jon can see a few bruises on his arms from someone grabbing the boy's arms. Jon was sickened as Petunia shoves the child so he was standing in front of Jon.
The boy looked up at Jon, his eyes a bright green and Jon instantly knew who the boy was, it was Harry, Lilly's son and he didn't look like the chubby happy baby Jon once saw, he was now scared skinny eight year old who probably didn't know who Jon was.
“Here it is,” said Petunia in a strict tone, “Take it and leave.”
Jon opens his mouth in shock.
“H-how could you do this to Lilly's son?” Jon asks just wanting answers.
Petunia rolls her eyes “I didn't want it in the first place.”
Jon knew he wouldn't get anywhere with Petunia so he put his attention back to Harry who was shuffling his feet nervously, Jon takes note of the baggy clothes hanging off the child's skinny body, the clothes had some holes here and there and a shitty patch job holding the bigger holes closed. Jon crutches down to Harry's height and gives him a shaky smile.
“Hello, I'm Jonathan but you can call me Jon,” Jon says softly trying to keep Harry calm, “I'm your cousin.”
Harry's eyes widened, “But, you're older than me.”
Harry's words make Jon chuckle.
“Yes, I'm a distant cousin so we have a bit of an age gap.” Jon says
Harry tilts his head a bit looking confused but doesn't ask Jon any questions, Jon clears his throat before talking.
“I have an apartment that's big enough for two people and was wondering if you'd be interested in living with me instead of your aunt Petunia?” Jon asks Harry.
Harry's eyes seem to grow even larger as he looks at Jon, Harry looks behind him at Petunia and she just curls her lip at him, Harry turns back to Jon and leans a bit closer to him.
“Yes please.” Harry whispers to Jon making him drop his shoulders with relief.
Jon smiles at Harry and nods, “Ok, we'll just grab your things and get out of here.”
Jon stands back up and looks at Petunia.
“Are Harry's things also in the…” Jon's words drift off as he looks towards the cupboard under the stairs.
Petunia huffs at Jon before walking to the cupboard and taking some things out, Jon sees her grabbing a baby blanket that he seen Lilly have Harry wrapped in when he last saw them. Petunia walks back over to Jon and shoves the stuff into his arms, he looks down and sees only a few clothes, a few broken crayons, the baby blanket and three broken army men. The sight breaks Jon's heart but he tries really hard to keep the anger and sadness off his face.
Jon looks down at Harry and moves the stuff around so he has one hand free, he reaches down and holds his hand out for Harry to take.
“Are you ready to leave?” Jon asks
Harry silently nods and grabs Jon's hand, Jon starts to lead Harry towards the front door but before Jon could get to it Harry stops and turns around and looks at Petunia.
“Goodbye aunt Petunia.” Harry says in a soft tone.
Jon looks back just in time to see Petunia's eyes shift a bit like she saw someone else in front of her instead of Harry before her eyes turned cold again.
“Get going”
Harry looks at her for a few more seconds before turning back to the front door and letting Jon lead him to it again.

Son of God, what do you see in me? Do you see a pathetic creature or do you see what you want to see?
I am full of scars from how life had treated me, the scars both mental and physical shine like silver painted on my body, I ache constantly as my anger for the world grows.
Son of God, can you hold me? Can you heal my aches even for just a moment of peace from the horrible anger and pain. Please Son of God let me lay my head on your lap for just a moment just to feel loved.
My horns feel heavy and my claws too sharp. I'm afraid to hurt you Son of God, I fear one day you will be put down by my own hand by mistake and I'll never see anyone as bright as you again.
As you place your hand onto mine you show no fear, Son of God you must be stupid to love such a creature, you who shines only love and I who hides in the darkness because of fear of being hurt again… Son of God can you tell me what you see in me?
The stars that were made by your Father shine so brightly in your eyes Son of God, how they light up when they see me even when they whisper in your ear how evil I am you still only see good in me… i fear it will be your downfall.
Son of God, who is your new friend? She holds the same brightness as you… your Father made her?
Son of God, why don't you wait for me anymore? Did I do something wrong? Have you started to believe what they said about me? Have you seen the pathetic creature I truly am?
Daughter of God, why does Son of God no longer look at me with such bright eyes anymore?
Daughter of God, don't you want the same knowledge as your Father?
Son of God, please don't be angry at me I just wanted you to myself, please. I don't want to be alone again.
Son of God, I saw you kill one of the animals you named, you cried by its side petting its mane. I'm sorry Son of God.
I follow you as you walk through the desert with her, you have made clothing for you both but it seems you will have to find somewhere to stay as her stomach grows with life. I know you hate me but as I leave food for you without you seeing me why do you let tears fall?
Son of God, I saw your own son kill his brother, I watched as you and her screamed and cried for him to wake up, do not worry I saw him be welcomed with open arms by your Father and don't worry about his murderer as I will welcome him with open arms as well.
Son of God, you are no longer young, your hair has turned gray and your face shows how many years you've lived, your eyes once held the stars now holds pain of betrayal still burning in them, please Son of God, please forgive me for the pain I caused you for my love only hurts and I break everything I touch.
Son of God, as you breathe your last breath do know I will remember you for as long as I'm allowed to live you will stay in my mind.
Son of God, your children's children had children, there are so many of them now, do you see them? Do you love them as much as your first son? Do you still remember me?
More of your children are brought to me and all I see is you in them, the pain in their eyes, the sorrow in their soul reminds me of you, I hope you hug the ones that meet with you.
Daughter of God, I am sorry that I hurt you, I am a jealous creature and I'm sorry that it took this long to realize it, I shouldn't have tricked you into your first sin… I'm sorry it caused your son to kill.
Son of God, you are just as beautiful as the last time I saw you, the halo looks magical on you, your eyes hold even more stars now… why do you look at me so?
Please hold my head in your lap like you used to, please, please hold me with love again.
Why must you come to my home Son of God? It's full of hate and evil like I am, oh… your son…
Son of God, do you hate me? Good.
Life with your father has done you good, the weight on your shoulders is no longer holding you down, your hair still gray and your face still with age but holds a happiness that you didn't have before, I am glad.
Son of God, please tell me… does your Father hear my prayers? ….oh…
Father please forgive me, I wanna go home, I miss my siblings and I miss your love. Please don't hate me anymore.
Father please tell Adam I'm sorry and that I love him… Father?
Son of God, Daughter of God, how nice of you to visit me again.
Son of God, I get why you like her so much, she's got sass
Son of God, I love you so, please kiss me as you once did.

Nix was lying on the hospital bed with a wide smile on his face, his teeth were just as white as the last time Gale saw them but that look in Nix’ eyes was different, the same eyes that used to look at him with warmth and friendship now hold coldness and… something Gale can't name but the black haired man didn't like the gaze one bit.
“Hey Gale,” Nix said in his usual lazy tone and giving the other man a small wave, “Long time no see.”
Gale gave the blonde haired man a sneer.
“Your little messenger boy called me here,” Gale said, gesturing to Leon standing silently next to the taller man, “why did you call me here?” He asked just wanting to leave and never return.
Nix was snickering at Gale calling Leon his messenger boy, the sound making Gale’s eyebrow twitch.
“Weeelll.” The purple eyed man grew out after his laughter ceased.
“I wanted you to meet my pup.” Nix said, flashing Gale a quick jazz hands.
Gale's brown eyes widened at the news.
“A pup?!” Gale gasped, “Who'd willingly breed you?!”
Nix’ eyes side to look at the left of Gale making the man's eyes follow and stop at Leon, the same Leon that would almost tremble at being in the mere presence of Nix, Who'd turn the other direction if he saw Gale and Nix walk down the same hallway in highschool.
“No fuckin way.” Gale breathed out.
Gale's shock caused another wave of laughter to come out of the blonde and red brighten in Leon’s tan face.
Nix wiped his eyes as his grin stayed on his face, the same grin that never left since Gale got here.
“It's true,” Nix said, bringing up his hand and twitching a single finger and Leon was instantly at his side, bending over letting his head almost lay on the blonde's lasp, “Leon’s my Alpha and father of my pup.” The man said as he pet the brown haired man's head.
Gale felt a sinking feeling start pooling in his gut, something was wrong and he didn't know what it was, the taller man knew Leon was a submissive man, everyone knew he would be wrapped around his Omega's finger so him being petted wasn't a surprise.
“...Why did you call me here?” Gale asked again.
Purple eyes flickered back up to him and somehow that same grin got even bigger.
“Well, I wanted my dog back.”
The words caught Gale by surprise.
“What?”
Nix chuckled, still petting Leon's head.
“I let you run off and start your little evil cult but I want to settle down and have my child meet our pets so I want you to come back home.” Nix said, his voice uncaring and his hand never wavering.
Gale could feel his body wanting to shiver but the long haired man forces the feeling to go away. Gale stays silent just watching Nix, looking into the eyes of who he once wanted to mate but didn't see the same carefree Omega that he once fell in love with, he could only see that coldness and that unnamed emotion still in the dark purple eyes.
The stare off between the two ex friends was interrupted by the sound of the door opening and a Beta nurse walking in, her head was down, her neck exposed and she sidestepped Gale to walk over to Nix’ bed and handed him a swaddled baby before quickly and quietly making her way out again, Nix holds the baby with a gentleness Gale didn't know the Omega possessed.
Nix looks down at the pup and gives a small pout.
“She looks exactly like you, Leon.” The blonde said, holding the baby so the brown haired man could see her.
Leon's green eyes soaked up the image of his baby, a soft look filling his eyes.
“She's got my color’s but she's got your nose and mouth.” The submissive Alpha said with a warmth Gale didn't know he could put into his voice in a situation like this.
Nix looks at Gale and angles the baby so he could see and Leon was right, even though the baby had his brown hair and naturally tan skin, the baby girl had Nix’ nose and lips.
Nix leans back a bit further into the bed and sighs.
“Make sure not to pack that much cause I'll just buy you and the girls new stuff.”
The words struck Gale like a block of ice.
“Girls?” Gale asked, “I don't know of any girls.”
Nix’ grin hasn't faded in the slightest.
“Those little girls you picked up ten years ago, the ones you left home for, raised by yourself and killed for.” Nix said in a light airy tone.
Gale felt sweat start to build on the back of his neck, he did everything to get his pups wiped from the databases, he didn't even let them post anything online about themselves so how did Nix know of them and how many at this damned school knew of them?
Something must've shone on the black haired man's face because Nix chuckled.
“Don't worry. Only me, Leon and Dominique know about them,” Nix said, waving one hand like to bat at an annoying fly, “The council would've wanted their heads and I didn't want my baby's puppies to be killed.”
The little relief that Gale felt instantly left his body, there went Nix calling people dogs again, Gale grit his teeth.
“What do you mean?” Gale hissed.
A smugness flowed into the mystical purple eyes.
“Well since I had a dog,” Nix said gesturing to Gale, “I wanted my Pup, Rose, to have a couple of puppies too!”
Nix cocked his head to the side and put a finger to his lips like a confused schoolgirl.
“Did you really think you ran away from me?” Asked the Omega.
Gale said nothing, his teeth gritting and his fist balled up so tight he could feel his nails digging into his palms.
“You didn't run away Gale,” Nix confessed, going back to petting Leon with one hand while holding his pup with the other, “I let you go so you could play by yourself for a bit.”
The sinking feeling Gale was feeling was hitting harder as he thought back to the past and realized how easy it was to run away from the most guarded magic school in the country, how there just so happened to be a small hole in the protections around the school and that some of the guards couldn't seem to hear his footsteps. Gale thought at the time he was just lucky but now he was starting to doubt that luck
“It took some talking but I got the Council to not kill you for turning to the DarkArts but I did have to use your little cult a bit.” Nix said as he kissed his pups head.
Gale gulped a bit wondering if he would even like the answer his question will get but knowing he needs it.
“What did you need it for?” Gale asked, his voice holding a bit of a trimmer.
Nix looked back into Gale's blue eyes and said “We needed someone to Execute the other DarkArtists.”
Nix' voice was still light but his eyes were so cold, the words caused Gale to step back in fright.
“I never got away.” Gale whispered to himself.
Nix shook his head, “you didn't.”
“You always knew where I was.”
“Yep.”
Gale shook his head and pulled out his phone tapping one of his daughters names and placing the phone to his ear.
“You can't get them out of the country fast enough, Gale.” Nix said.
Gale paid the insane Omega no notice, just waiting for Hanna to answer the phone and when it does all he can hear is her sobbing and her twin Faith screaming.
“Dad? Daddy!” Hanna sobed
“What's wrong?!” Gale frantically asked, “Are you hurt?!”
“N-No,” his daughter said, choking on her tears, “Mr. James is dead!” Hanna wailed.
Gale's eyes look to Nix who still had that stupid fucking grin on his face.
“How?” Gale whispered.
“H-He just exploded, he was walking to us and just, just, popped!” The fifteen year old said, still crying and trying to console her twin sister.
“I mastered how to use my magic in places that I'm not even at physically.” The Omega said, gesturing for his Alpha to finally stand and hand the man his baby so he can hold her.
“I can use it like this.” Nix says and Gale hears a squelching sound and sees blood splatter against the window of the school's small hospital window.
Gale can feel his blood run cold as he sees the gore and can hear his pups sob and whimper.
“I could've killed those little pests at any point,” Nix said calmly, “But when I found out I was pregnant I decided I wanted to settle down and have my pet back home and wanted Rose to have her own pets as well.”
Gale's eyes slide back to Nix', the purple eyes that hold coldness and the other emotion that Gale can finally name, it was madness, Nix only has coldness and madness running through his blood and Gale knew he couldn't escape again.
“Hanna.” Gale whispered into the phone, the young girl made a sound so he'd know she could hear him, “Get your sister and meet me at the School of Light.”
“T-the school you said would hurt us?” Hanna asked, confused.
“Yes,” Gale's voice says, “They won't hurt you, I was wrong.”
Nix' eyes now hold that smugness like last time again.
It was quite on the other end of the phone before Hanna spoke up again.
“Ok dad, we'll be there.” She said quietly before hanging up.
Gale's hand drops down to his side still gripping the phone, his blue eyes dull as they go back to the gore on the windows.
“The nurses?” Asked Gale.
“The Council didn't like that I was with such a weak Alpha,” Nix said casually making Leon become flustered at his words, “They've been talking about killing my pup to make me go through a drop so they could break our mating bond.”
Nix clicks his tongue, “They forgot they bred me to be the most dangerous Mage in the land.” He said with a laugh but quickly quieted down when his baby let out a whimper.
Gale felt like he had no fight left in him, his life had been a lie since he ‘ran away’ and now he didn't know how much was real. Was James someone he met organically or did Nix set their meeting up? Did the members of his cult actually believe him or were they too scared to tell him that he was their executioner? All the questions circled in Gale's head so fast that it made the Alpha dizzy.
Gale looks back at the mad Omega who still had his grin on his face and Omega fangs out.
“Kneel.”
Gale's knees instantly hit the ground and he knew that he lost the moment he stepped foot though the school's protections.
