Sketches from the last little bit âšâš
I painted my dnd character's bird bc I'm really cool like that
heyyyyyy look at me I made a self-portrait this is crazyyyyyy
anywho, I dare-say that I have started to figure out how I like rendering skin, so next i need to tackle clothes and backgrounds. I'm pretty happy with this one and now I am going to eat some celebratory 2:00AM cereal :D
GUYS, I even added a BACKGROUND??? I'm going nuts, someone needs to hold me back-
Anywho, I wanted to draw a pretty lady and I ended up with this. I'm pretty happy with it, but I'm still having trouble with figuring out how I like to render and add texture. But YEAH :DD
Hi, my name is Kiwi and I have Vaxleth brainrot so I made fanart of a college au fic that I love by @acharliek on Ao3
(i am newer to digital art and refuse to do backgrounds, be kind to me<3)
Wow, look at me, posting art of my dnd character. Crazy.
(she's just a girl in the world)
shading colour tips
hey yall its me the Art Momâą to help you shade pretty
rule 1: DO NOT SHADE WITH BLACK. EVER. IT NEVER LOOKS GOOD.Â
red- shade with a slightly darker shade of purple
orange- slightly darker and more saturated shade of red
yellow- i think like..a peach could work but make it a really light peach
green- shade with darker and less saturated shade of blue or teal
blue- shade with purple
purple- a shade thats darker than the purple youâre using and maybe a little pink (MAYBE blue)
pink- darker shade of red
white- a really light lavender or blue..or i guess any really light colour??
black- okay listen dont use pure black to colour anything unless you want to leave it with flat colours because you cant really shade black lol
grey- a slightly darker shade of purple or blue (less saturated)
brown- slightly darker and less saturated shade of purple or red
aaaaand thats all i got lol. let me know if there is anything i should add to this list!!
If youâre a visual learnerâŠ
I made some Balls of Colour to go with Art Momâąâs post:
Okay⊠Iâm sorry, but as an illustrator, I think this is terrible advice.  This is my opinion, feel free to believe that Iâm wrong.  This is purely based on my experience with color and color theory.
1) The donât color with black thing is valid to an extent.  Most painters will tell you not to use it or to use it sparingly because black will make things look flat and will heavily desaturate your colors if youâre not careful.  I have a problem with telling new artists âDONâT SHADE WITH BLACK OMG NEVAH NOT EVEN ONCEâ because there are valid times to use black in shadows, and when you do that, you are telling them that using black is âwrongâ, which means theyâre less likely to experiment and try new things.  I prefer to say, âas a beginner, try to shy away from using black to shade anything until you learn more about color theory.  Experiment by all means, but here are some other methods that you might like better.â Â
2) Telling an artist, especially a new artist to only use a specific color when shading is terrible. Â I equate it to giving a math student a formula to plug in on tests, but never telling them what the formula actually is or why theyâre using it or why it works. Â Itâs an absolutely terrible way to teach someone- especially in art. Â
There are also so many different ways to color and shade with digital art, telling someone to do it one way is really limiting and not really giving them the best advantage that they have, which is versatility. Â Plus with painting, there are SO many things to take into account besides the color of the shadow that is going to affect what color the shadows should be- you have local color, relative color, reflected light, and so on.
Hereâs some quick and dirty tips on what I do to shade in my paintings:
A) Color wheel- decide what color the shadow is. Â The most common shade for shadows is ultramarine blue (for those who donât know, itâs a staple paint color for traditional artists) for natural lighting, but experiment, experiment, experiment! Â Once you decide on a shadow color, pretend thereâs a line going straight through the color wheel dividing it in half. Â If you use Ultra Blue, the opposite color is MOST likely going to be yellow depending on your art program, colors in your painting should move toward Ultra blue equallyish (thereâs lots of room for fudging, do what looks best!) Â Yellow will be a bit of a toss up depending on your painting and executive decisions as an artist. Â But basically orange will be shaded with a darker shade of red, red with purple, green with teal, teal with blue, blue is like yellow, dependent on your painting and executive decision. Â You might choose an indigo, or something warmer (more greenish/tealish) might suit your painting. Â Experiment! Â The same works in reverse for painting things lit by direct light AND reflected lighting.
B) Blending Layers- Sometimes you want your shadows to be consistent across the board and donât want to have to figure out exactly how each color should be altered. Â Using a multiply layer with a color on it (and it can be any kind of color depending on what kind of lighting youâre doing) can help you manage your values and keep things from getting disjointed. Â This also allows you to change the color of the shadow if you decide it isnât working out quite how you wanted it to.
C) Â Quicker and Dirtier- Sometimes you just donât want to do any kind of figuring anything out. Â You can take the flat colors of your painting, copy onto a new layer, and then adjust that layerâs hue, saturation, and value to find shadow colors that you like (and you can experiment with other color correction tools, donât be shy, try new things!). Â Once you have a good shadow color, create a blank layer mask on the layer and then erase out bits of the mask to get the lighter colors to shine through.
And remember, if the colors look flat when youâre done, saturation is generally a way to breathe more life into things- Shadows donât have to be just one layer, you can try doing multiple effects and layer multiple colors to achieve the look you want. Â Is the green shadow looking a little flat? Â Try putting some yellow down in an Overlay layer and see if thatâll help it pop. Â
These are only three of the MANY ways digital programs can help us create art. Â Experiment! Â Try something new! Â Donât be afraid to mess up, thatâs when you find the hidden treasures you didnât know were there!
Now, all that said, if you have not yet, I strongly encourage you to learn some color theory. Â Understanding how light behaves and how colors are affected by that and how they interact with one another is something every artist should (in my opinion) take the time to learn. Â There are a lot of great free resources online that cover color theory and lighting. Â Google is your best friend! Â Take advantage of your access to these resources, please!
Watching the Atom Eve special and holy shit...it probably wasn't intended this way but it reminds me of my experiences growing up with then-undiagnosed autism
The always feeling different but not knowing why? Being mocked by your peers and told by your parents they wish you were normal? Feeling safe enough to be yourself to a long-time friend only for them to then shun you? The feeling of freedom when things finally click?
Again, I don't think this was intentional (it may have been idk lmao), but this just hits so close to home. I love it.
I think about how we domesticated and then abandoned pigeons far too often for it to be healthy

Questions for people with Tourettes!
I notice a pattern in Youtube videos by people with Tourettes, so I want to ask:
How much does the environment affect your tics? Will you tic less in some places and more in others? Or is it related to how relaxed or anxious you are?
Do your most offensive tics (if you have any) seem to crop up in environments where you know those are bad things to say / bad gestures to make? (ie saying the N-word repeatedly at a Black Lives Matter rally or giving people the middle finger at church / temple.)
How suggestible are Tourettes tics? Like, if someone says something to you enough times, will you start to repeat it as a tic?Â
Are there tics that are only triggered by certain images, music, phrases or any other stimuli?Â
Is the mechanism behind your tics acting up in response to someone elseâs tics similar to having the urge to yawn / actually yawning because you saw somebody else yawn?
If you tic entire random phrases (ie âelephant pajama recitals!â / âSaturn ate the Queenâs makeup!â), do you know whatâs about to come out before you say it, or does your mouth just blurt it and leave you as surprised as whoever hears you?
âBtw I fully understand that tics are not you shouting out or gesturing exactly what youâre thinking, and I know not everyone has swearing / vulgar tics.
i typically tic most when i am with friends and family(i have no idea why, thatâs just how it goes for me). i tic more when i am stressed and anxious.Â
one time my mom and i were talking about Jews and i said hitler really loud, i also say satan plenty enough.
i have an echo tic which makes me âechoâ what people say, and it often turns into a tic
they can be, but mine normally arenât.
YES. when ever i see another person tic i tic, and it turns into a never ending cycle of ticking.
sometimes i randomly think of something and it turns into a tic, so i kinda know what will come out, but its very strained because my tics arenât normally sentences.
