A Teen Female Football First
1.The main point of this particular article is a teenage first female football player. The main point first emerges in the first subtitle when the author introduces Karlie Harman as âthe first girl to win Player Of The Year in a Washington, D.C., area youth football league.â Laura (the author) then goes on to explain the importance of her achievements. Including details about the team that Karlie plays for -Dulles South Thunder- and how she is the only girl on that team. The main point develops throughout the course of this article. Laura tells us that the boys on the team started respecting the teen female football player after they saw that a girl could âtake a hit [and] showed she could lead a team.â At the end, we see that she was also the âfirst girl to lead a team to a county championship game.â The author makes it clear that Karlie will not be the last female to play football even though she was the first to win that award. Girls can play football as well, no matter the circumstances.
2. ** Organization--> The organization was well done and logical. At first sight, I recognized the physical appearance of the article itself. The font size of the title (which was the main idea she wanted to inform us about) and the smaller word-sized subtitles. The author also included pictures that showed us Karlie wearing normal clothes and in her football kit. I like that she placed the pictures at the top so we can get a better mental image of the article. Due to the pictures, font size and ideas in the titles, the structure helped increase my understanding of the actual information within the text. The order of ideas in the text was helpful because throughout the article Laura gave us information about Karlie intermingled with her opinions followed by facts. It really helped me understand why the first teenage female football was such an amazing accomplishment.
** Purpose--> The main purpose of this article focused on Karlie Harman is, to inform us about this particular female football player. The author has done this well by stating many facts and raising awareness about female athletes being successful, just like boys are. She informs us well by adding two big pictures at the beginning of the article. By showing us pictures, we see factual evidence.
3.** When was it published? If there is a date and it is recent, then we will know that this certain article has a higher chance of being a reliable source. If it was published a year ago for instance, then we would probably have to check the source of the article. If there is no date at all anywhere, then we wonât be able to rely on it either.
** Where was it published? If it was published in a daily informational newspaper, then we will know that the information is credible because a respectable newspaper always double checks the facts of the information that is in an article. For instance, if this article was published on a gossip website, then this article would not be reliable because people post lies and gossip on those types of websites. If it was not published at all, then it would be as credible as a personal journal entry.
4. I believe that this is article is reliable source because it states the date directly at the top of the article. The date might have been published a year ago, but if there was no date at all then it would definitely be unreliable. After checking out the site this article was published on, I saw that it was a credible, well-known and educational website for scholars and teachers. By knowing the where and if the article was published, I saw that even if the date was old, the website has a fact checker. My final reason as to why this is a reliable source is that the author took credit of her work. If the author didnât let others acknowledge that she wrote this, then it is less credible.
