whistling a made up tune, william saliba joyfully saunters down the sobha center hallways with not a care in the world. the season was going well, his girlfriend was happy, and therefore he was happy. there wasn’t much for him to complain about.
“morning!” he greets employees with his normal cheerful expression, as he rounds the corner and enters the locker room where the lads were changing.

ONE SHOT : SUMMER CONFESSION
Pairing : Djed Spence x Black reader
Summary : One childhood friend group. 2 potential lovers. One confession.
Warnings : nothing but fluff - WC : 2.9k
A/N : Another short story I want to share with you. Yeah here and there, I can do fluff too. I might not be a fluff girly at heart but I really enjoyed writing this one. I hope you guys enjoy it the same I enjoyed writing it. Thanks for the love and support.
Writing takes a lot of time, if you enjoyed, please reblog, comment and interact. Don't be shy. That's why the anon button exists. English is not my first language.
Afrohouse blasts in the back when her phone vibrates on the table. At first, she wants to ignore to fully focus on the current gossip and the orange-pink sky behind Mira, one of her closest friends. One name on her screen is all it takes to make her change her mind at a speed her brain can barely process. The grin on her face gives more information than what she would actually like to share.
Mira pauses her gossip session to wiggle her eyebrows. ”Yeah, go join your man.”
The entire table of five start to whistle loudly, clearly enjoying the reactions their tease caused. At this point, she was too tired to roll her eyes at their antics.
the people yearn for more wilo content (i’m ppl)
but srsly mia your fics are so so good im obsessed with you and i hope this didn’t come across as like rushing you to write for him it was appreciation 🥹🥹

masterlist
there was never a conversation about what they were.
they never sat down over coffee and decided they were exclusive and never had the awkward “so what are we?” talk.
never even admitted that whatever existed between them had quietly stopped resembling friendship several weeks ago. months.
instead, it happened in the strange little ways neither of them acknowledged.
william stopped checking his phone whenever she was around because she’d somehow become the person he naturally looked for whenever something funny happened.
she learned that he hated the crusts on little tea sandwiches, so she’d absentmindedly steal them off his plate before he even had to complain.
he remembered how she took her coffee without asking. she remembered which shoulder he’d injured last season and always walked on his other side in crowded places.
the sex was amazing. the sex when william was tired and frustrated from training. when she was happy about her success at school. when he won a game. when they just felt like it.
if she was cold, his jacket somehow ended up around her shoulders before either of them really processed how it got there.
if he had a particularly miserable training session, she’d appear at the training ground café twenty minutes later with the exact pastry he liked, claiming she’d “just happened to be nearby.”
they never called them dates, but everyone else did.
“you’re going to dinner tonight?” gabriel had asked after training one afternoon.
william shrugged while tying his boots. “yeah.”
“with her?”
he replied simply. “yeah.”
“that’s a date.”
“not really.”
gabriel stared. “you’re taking one woman to dinner.”
“yes.”
“at a restaurant.”
“yes.”
“on a friday night.”
william sighed, looking up at him. “mr. obvious over here.”
gabriel blinked once.
“wilo, that’s literally the definition of a date.”
william looked genuinely confused. “i thought dates were more…” he gestured vaguely. “…official.”
gabriel had laughed so hard he nearly dropped his water bottle. because william was sooooo far off that his seat was nowhere near the table.
it became something of a running joke amongst the squad. every monday, someone would ask; “how was your not-date?”
most of the time it was declan, and if it wasn’t gabriel would join in on the teasing anyways.
william would answer with complete sincerity. “it was good.”
“what’d you do?”
he shrugged. “walked around hampstead.”
“held hands?”
“for a bit.”
“kiss?”
“yeah.”
they all blinked, staring at him hoping he’d say something and admit those were things people did on a date. but william didn’t budge.
“and you’re still saying it’s not a date?”
william frowned. “we’re… seeing each other.”
declan nearly spilt his drink. “mate.”
kai pinched the bridge of his nose and sighed. everyone knew and saw what was going on except them. for no reason because it was so obvious they were into each other.
y/n wasn’t much better. she’d insist they were taking things slow, which sounded incredibly reasonable until people realized “taking things slow” included:
sleepy phone calls that lasted two hours, good luck hugs and kisses before every home match, little handwritten notes she’d leave in the pockets of his jackets because she knew he’d eventually find them, standing in the family section after games because she’d become close with his parents almost by accident.
she once caught herself introducing him as—
“my…” she paused.
he looked at her and she looked at him. both of them with a familiar glint on their eyes.
“…friend.”
there had been the tiniest pause. long enough that both of them knew she’d almost said something else, but neither mentioned it.
they continued walking slowly. their minds both full of that moment that had just happened. because calling what they had a friendship felt wrong, and they still didn’t do anything to change it.
their hands brushed ever so slightly as they crossed a street. and a few seconds later, he reached over and intertwined his fingers with hers.
didn’t look at her. didn’t say a word. he just kept walking as if he’d been holding her hand the entire time.
she felt warmth spread on her chest. the gesture had been so meaningful to her she smiled to herself for the next ten minutes.
which was exactly why everyone found tonight so entertaining. because the annual team summer party wasn’t technically for random partners.
it was for teammates, family, friends. people important enough to bring.
william hadn’t even asked. he hadn’t though he needed to. he just texted her three days earlier.
wilo 😈
wear something nice
she frowned with a faint smile at his message.
that’s not even asking me
wilo 😈
you’re coming, aren’t you?
passed as she typed and deleted the message over and over again. then finally:
yeah
wilo 😈
thought so
when they arrived together, nobody reacted. because, of course they had.
the only people surprised were william and her, who still believed they were being subtle. when it was so incredibly clear they weren’t.
it was so natural to them and it looked like pure love to everyone else.
they walked in side by side. she immediately reached up to straighten the slightly crooked collar of his linen shirt without thinking and he thanked her just as absentmindedly.
ben watched the interaction from across the room.
looked at declan raising his brows and then looked back.
“they’re actually unbelievable.”
declan nodded. “it’s like watching two people accidentally date. for six months. without realizing.”
gabriel sighed into his drink. “just wait.”
“for what?”
he watched william naturally drift toward her after being pulled away into a conversation. without even looking, he rested one hand lightly against the small of her back as he squeezed past several people.
not possessive or even intentional. it looked like they had done it a million times and they had. it was just instinct at this point.
she leaned into the touch for barely a second before continuing her conversation, but neither of them seemed to notice.
gabriel smiled while shaking his head. “give it an hour.”
ben frowned. “why?”
gabriel glanced toward the front door just as another teammate stepped inside. “because riccardo’s here.”
riccardo calafiori had an unfortunate habit of talking to absolutely everyone. he’d walk into a room, grin at the first person he recognized, and by the end of the night he’d somehow learned where they grew up, what music they liked, and what they ordered from cafés.
it wasn’t flirting. most of the time it wasn’t at least. that’s what he told himself.
he was just painfully italian. animated hands, warm smiles with charm, stood a little too close without realizing and laughed loudly when a joke had been slightly funny.
he would touch people’s shoulders when he spoke without overthinking it because it was simply how he existed.
which, under normal circumstances, wasn’t a problem.
tonight, however, it became a very, very big problem.
the party had settled into that comfortable stage where everyone had split into little groups. music hummed through the house without overpowering conversation.
someone had started a game of pool in the back room while gabriel and ben were arguing over whether pineapple belonged on pizza.
kai was pretending he wasn’t listening while very obviously listening and rolling his eyes every five seconds as declan had become trapped in a twenty minute conversation with one of the coaching staff about golf.
william, meanwhile, was standing in the kitchen opening a bottle of sparkling water.
he looked across the room, his eyes naturally searching for her while he noticed she wasn’t where she’d been thirty seconds ago.
he frowned.
“looking for someone?” gabriel asked, appearing beside him like he’d been summoned by instinct.
“no.”
“mhm.”
“i’m just…” his eyes continued scanning the room. “…looking around.”
gabriel followed his line of sight. “right,” he spotted her almost immediately. “she’s over there.”
william looked over. she was standing near the piano, laughing with a few people. among them, was riccardo.
“oh.”
gabriel took a very slow sip of his drink. “he’s right there, huh?”
“who?”
“your competition.”
william looked at him. “i don’t have competition.”
“really?”
“yes.”
gabriel pointed. “then why are you staring like that?”
he shrugged. “i’m observing.”
“same thing.”
“it’s not.”
“it is.”
“he’s just talking.”
“he is.”
“he talks with his hands a lot.”
gabriel blinked. “sorry?”
“nothing.”
“did you just criticize the way he gestures?”
“no.”
gabriel had to look away to hide his smile, because his friend was an idiot.
across the room, she had absolutely no idea any of this was happening.
“…and then i completely missed the ball,” riccardo was saying, laughing at himself.
her eyes widened with a smile. “no.”
“yes.”
“you’re lying.”
“i wish i was.”
“you’re a defender.”
“exactly.”
“aren’t you supposed to be coordinated?”
“apparently not.”
she laughed. “that’s more real.”
“how come?”
she shrugged. “william acts like none of you ever make mistakes.”
there was really no need to bring up william in that conversation, but she did anyway. which was one of the things that happened so naturally to her that she forgot people didn’t find it natural.
riccardo laughed. “oh, trust me,” he leaned in. “he once passed me the ball so badly during training that i almost ended up in another postcode.”
she burst into laughter. “i’m telling him you said that.”
“please don’t.”
“absolutely i will.”
he placed one hand dramatically over his heart. “betrayed.”
“completely.”
their conversation was easy and light. nothing more than two people joking around.
but they were laughing. a lot.
gabriel watched william watching them. “how’s the water?”
william blinked. “what?”
“you’ve been holding that bottle for ten minutes.”
he looked down at the bottle. “have i?”
“yes.”
“it’s good.”
“haven’t actually seen you drink it.”
willow stayed quiet for a few seconds while he looked at them. “he’s making her laugh again.”
he didn’t even realize he’d said it out loud.
gabriel looked at him. “wilo,” he sighed. “listen to yourself.”
william rolled his eyes. as if tired that the same thing kept being said. “i’m just looking.”
gabriel sighed again and looked around. when he spotted declan, he called him over.
declan wandered over. “yeah?”
gabriel pointed discreetly. “look at him.”
declan looked at william, and then at y/n, and then at gabriel.
“oh no.”
“right?”
“he’s jealous.”
william scoffed. “i’m not jealous.”
both of them looked at him like they didnt believe him. because they didn’t.
“i’m not.”
gabriel nodded. “sure.”
declan nodded too. “absolutely.”
then fate decided to make things infinitely worse.
“charades!”
a collective groan echoed through the room.
teams were made with absolutely no logic whatsoever. william had decided that when she ended up on riccardo’s team while he ended up on the other.
five minutes later, she had guessed the lion king from what looked like interpretive dance.
“how?”
she shrugged with a smile. that same smile wilo loved to wake up to. the smile that he was usually the reason for and right now was being directed to someone else.
“he looked sad.”
riccardo pointed enthusiastically. “see? she gets me.”
they high-fived and william’s jaw tightened. because why were they having fun? why were they acting like a team?
gabriel noticed because of course he noticed.
“did the high five upset you?”
“fuck you.”
“you looked upset.”
william was growing more and more irritated by the second, and gabriel was just pushing him relentlessly like he wanted him to snap. “i wasn’t.”
“your eyebrow twitched.”
“my eyebrow doesn’t twitch.”
“it literally just did.”
gabriel turned. “declan.”
“yeah?”
“did his eyebrow twitch?”
declan looked at william. “yeah.”
william couldn’t believe how ridiculous they were being. because he didn’t know that gabriel and declan were only getting on his nerves to make him realize what he should’ve realized months ago.
the game ended and everyone wandered back toward the drinks right away.
as music started up again she excused herself to grab another lemonade, with riccardo following a moment later.
“can i help?”
she giggled. “i think i can manage pouring lemonade.”
“you seem very confident.”
she shrugged. “it’s one of my greatest talents.”
he smiled with his usual charm. “i’ll be the judge of that.”
she handed him a glass. “there.”
“thank you.”
“see? remarkable technique. years of practice.”
they laughed again. animatedly like they’d done all night while william was pretending to be deeply invested in the bowl of tortilla chips.
gabriel sighed. this was becoming painful for no absolute reason. william literally had her and y/n had him, so why were they so difficult?
he wandered over and stood beside william. “you know…”
“what?”
“he’s cute.”
william frowned. “who?”
“riccardo.”
the chip on his hand crushed under his grip. “i suppose.”
“nice hair. good smile. very charming.”
william didn’t say anything.
“funny. seems interested.”
he finally looked at him. “gabriel.”
“yeah?”
“i liked you more five minutes ago.”
gabriel grinned. “because five minutes ago you hadn’t admitted to yourself that you’re jealous.”
“i’m not jealous.”
“then go ask her to dance.”
“why would i do that?”
“because if you don’t,” he glanced toward riccardo. “someone else might.”
william followed his gaze. riccardo had just laughed at something she’d whispered. and then he reached over and tucked a loose strand of hair behind her ear.
it was absentminded and it was gentle. the kind of thing he would do to her.
another man was touching her like he did.
he set his untouched bottle of sparkling water down very carefully and rolled the sleeves of his shirt up twice.
gabriel watched the entire sequence. “what are you doing?”
william started walking. “i’m going to say hello.”
gabriel blinked. “you’ve said hello.”
“i’m saying hello again.”
“will, you’re about to embarrass yourself.”
william didn’t answer. he didn’t really care anymore. every ounce of self control seemed to be slipping from his fingers and he’d had enough, so he just continued walking.
william had absolutely no plan. which was unfortunate, because he crossed the room with the calm, measured stride of a man who looked as though he’d rehearsed this exact moment in his head a hundred times.
he hadn’t.
the only thing going through his mind was to get there. then he’d figure the rest out when he arrived.
behind him, gabriel watched with the sort of fascination people reserved for documentaries where you already knew something disastrous was about to happen.
he nudged ben with his elbow. “don’t look now.”
ben immediately looked. “what?”
“willo’s on the move.”
declan followed their line of sight. “oh, this’ll be good.”
the conversation by the drinks had settled into something light and effortless. riccardo was halfway through telling an animated story with his hands moving almost as much as the words themselves.
“…and then the referee looks at me—“ he demonstrated the referee’s expression with exaggerated disbelief. “—like i’m the problem.”
she laughed.
“were you?”
“probably.”
“at least you’re honest.”
“i try.”
another laugh. the kind that escaped before she could stop it.
william heard it before he reached them. and he hated that it tugged at something uncomfortable in his chest.
he loved hearing her laugh. he could confidently say it was his favorite thing in the world. but he wasn’t the reason for it.
the thought annoyed him far more than he’d ever admit aloud.
“…there you are,” the words left him before he’d really decided to speak.
both of them turned and her reaction was immediate.
her entire face softened. her eyes brightened with easy familiarity, the corners of her mouth lifting into a smile that seemed to arrive without permission.
like seeing him had quietly improved the evening.
most people probably wouldn’t have noticed, but william did.
“hi.”
she said it so naturally as though she’d been expecting him. waiting for him, maybe.
something in his shoulders relaxed. “hi.”
riccardo looked between them with a polite smile. “will.”
“rico.”
they shook hands, but neither of them quite let go as quickly as they normally would. they stayed long enough for an awkward silence to bloom.
she looked between them. “are you two buffering?”
riccardo laughed first, breaking whatever strange little stand off had formed.
william couldn’t help smiling too. “maybe.”
“you’ve both suddenly forgotten how conversations work.”
“temporary system failure,” riccardo said.
she picked up the second glass of lemonade she’d poured a few moments earlier.
without thinking, she offered it to william instead. “here.”
their fingers met around the glass. his hand was warm and hers lingered for the briefest second before she let go.
it wasn’t intentional. none of the little things between them ever were. that was the problem.
they’d accumulated so many unconscious habits that neither of them noticed them anymore.
riccardo noticed.
she was already turning back toward william. because, without realizing it, her body had angled slightly in his direction. enough that william naturally became the centre of the little circle they’d been standing in.
“what were you talking about?” william asked.
she looked entirely too pleased with herself. “your greatest athletic achievement.”
“that doesn’t sound promising.”
riccardo grinned.
“she told me about the duck.”
william immediately looked at her. “you told him about the duck?”
she pressed her lips together, clearly trying not to laugh.
“perhaps.”
“that was classified information.”
she couldn’t hold it together anymore. laughter bubbled out of her, bright and unrestrained, and she instinctively reached for his arm as though steadying herself.
her fingers curled around his sleeve absentmindedly.
william looked down at them and smiled despite every intention not to.
“you’re enjoying this far too much.”
“a little.”
“a lot.”
y/n looked at him for a few beats with that soft smile on her face. “…a lot.”
riccardo watched the exchange quietly. the way william didn’t move his arm away and the way she hadn’t even seemed to think before touching him.
the ease between them. the tiny pauses and the private rhythm they’d fallen into without realizing.
he’d seen couples with less chemistry than this.
riccardo cleared his throat. “well…” both of them looked over. “…i think ben challenged me to pool.”
she frowned. “did he?”
“possibly.”
“i don’t remember seeing that.”
“terrible memory.”
william looked at him. there was the tiniest hint of amusement in his eyes now.
riccardo smiled. “good seeing you.”
“you too.”
he took two steps and then turned back toward william.
“actually.”
william looked over.
riccardo leaned in just enough that she couldn’t hear. “for what it’s worth…”
he glanced toward her. she was absentmindedly tracing circles in the condensation on her lemonade glass while waiting for them.
“…she’s looked for you every few minutes since she got here.”
william blinked as riccardo smiled knowingly.
“don’t waste too much time.”
then he clapped william lightly on the shoulder before disappearing toward the pool table.
she looked over at him. “what did he say?”
william rubbed the back of his neck. “nothing.”
she tilted her head. “that’s a terrible lie.”
william nodded. “i know.”
“what did he say?”
he looked away toward the garden doors for a moment.
his ears felt warm. “he just…” he exhaled through his nose. “…never mind.”
she smiled.
“will, you’re blushing.”
“i am not.”
“your ears are.”
he let out a breath. “that’s unfortunate.”
they drifted away from the kitchen without really deciding to. their steps naturally matched until they found themselves standing beside the open french doors leading into the garden.
the cooler evening air slipped inside, carrying the scent of freshly cut grass and somewhere in the distance, rain that hadn’t arrived yet.
they stood there. shoulders almost touching. watching people dance terribly in the living room.
“you’ve been acting strange tonight,” her voice was gentle. more curious than accusing.
william looked down at the bottle of sparkling water he’d been carrying for nearly twenty minutes. “have i?”
“a little.”
“how?”
she smiled to herself before answering. “every time i turned around…” she looked up at him. “…you were already looking.”
his expression betrayed him before his mouth could. “i wasn’t.”
“wilo.”
“mostly.”
she laughed. “you checked on me at least six times.”
“five.”
“you counted?”
“i accidentally counted.”
“that’s even worse.”
he groaned quietly. “this conversation is going terribly.”
she studied him for another moment.
his hands tucked into his pockets, the way he refused to meet her eyes for more than a second at a time, the tiny twitch in his eyebrow she’d noticed half an hour ago.
and suddenly everything clicked.
“oh.”
he looked over. “what?”
she smiled. “you were jealous.”
his head dropped immediately. “no.”
“william.”
“maybe.”
she couldn’t stop smiling. “of riccardo?”
“a little.”
“because he was talking to me?”
“because you laughed.”
she blinked. “what?”
he shrugged awkwardly. looking almost irritated with himself. “you were laughing.”
“yes.”
“with him.”
she stared and she actually laughed again.
not at him. but the admission was so painfully, unbelievably william.
he sighed. “you’re making it worse.”
“i’m sorry.”
“you’re not.”
he leaned back against the doorframe. eyes fixed somewhere out in the dark garden. “i know we’re not…” he searched for the words. “…together.”
the word felt strange in his mouth. “…so i know i don’t actually have any right to feel like that.”
his voice had grown quieter. “but every time i looked over…” he smiled to himself. small. “…i wanted you to be laughing with me instead.”
her heart melted and she stepped closer without thinking. close enough that there was barely any space left between them.
“will.”
he finally looked at her.
“we’re definitely something.”
“yeah?”
“yeah.”
“good.”
she reached up absentmindedly. her fingers smoothing the front of his shirt where it had creased near the collar. she’d done it dozens of times before. never thinking about it because they had decided it came along with the whatever they were package they’d purchased.
he watched her hand carefully straighten the fabric. “you always do that.”
she blinked. “do i?”
“every time.”
“you always let me.”
his smile softened. “i like when you do.”
her hand stilled against his chest. for a few quiet seconds, all they could hear was the muffled music behind them and each other’s breathing.
“can i tell you something?”
“always.”
“gabriel and ben told me you were hiding behind the snack table.”
he shut his eyes. “i’m going to have to stop speaking to them.”
she laughed. “apparently you were strategically observing.”
willi shook his head. “those were not my exact words.”
“they were, weren’t they?”
“they might’ve been.”
she shook her head, smiling so brightly it almost hurt to look at. “you’re ridiculous.”
he hesitated. then slowly lifted one hand.
his fingertips brushed a strand of hair away from her face, tucking it gently behind her ear.
the movement was almost tentative. like he was still checking that these little moments belonged to him.
she leaned into the touch before she even realized she’d done it.
“hi,” he smiled.
“hi.”
“can i kiss you?”
she didn’t answer with words, she just closed the tiny distance between them.
their lips met softly. with no urgency and no audience. just a quiet kiss that lingered for a heartbeat longer than the last one they’d shared.
when they pulled apart, neither of them moved very far. their foreheads almost brushed.
he laughed quietly under his breath. “i got jealous over absolutely nothing.”
she smiled. “you got jealous because riccardo complimented my lemonade.”
“he also tucked your hair behind your ear.”
she blinked. “he did?”
“see? you didn’t even notice.”
“because i wasn’t paying attention to him.”
his eyes lifted to hers. “no?”
she smiled. “i kept wondering why the boy i actually liked was pretending tortilla chips were fascinating.”
he laughed a proper laugh this time.
“they were a good hiding place.”
“they absolutely weren’t.”
before he could answer they heard,
“OI!” gabriel’s voice cut cleanly through the music.
both of them froze. half the room was looking at them.
gabriel stood in the middle of the living room with both hands triumphantly thrown into the air like he’d just watched his team score a last-minute winner.
“I TOLD YOU!”
declan was bent over laughing so hard he had one hand on the wall. ben had tears in his eyes. kai looked genuinely exhausted.
y/n buried her face against william’s shoulder, laughing so hard her whole body shook. he wrapped an arm around her almost instinctively, shaking his head with a helpless smile.
“they’re never going to let this go.”
she looked up at him. “probably not. but it was worth it.”
he looked down at her hand already comfortably tucked into his. then at the smile she hadn’t stopped wearing since he’d admitted the truth.
“yeah,” his thumb brushed gently over her knuckles. “definitely worth it.”
they didn’t know exactly what they were, but they knew that, they were enough to belong
to each other. and that was enough.

you had a weird gut feeling that you should have said no to malo’s request.
when your younger cousin had called you a few days ago, asking if you were free to meet up for dinner and to catch up, you’d said yes within thinking twice. even though malo had been living in london for a few years since joining chelsea, the two of you were so busy adulting that you didn't get the chance to spend as much time together as you’d want to. so whenever your schedules aligned, you’d make plans.
the first sign that something didn’t add up was when malo texted you the day after to let you know that he’d reserved a table at a fancy restaurant for to go to.
the second was when he told you to make sure to dress up.
the third was that you’d now been sat at the restaurant for 30 minutes, and malo was nowhere to be seen.
the fourth was that ever since the maître d’ had brought you over to your table, you had been calling and texting him to no avail.
malo was occasionally late, but when it came to you he was always reachable. the rare times in the past where he hadn't picked up your call, he’d called you back in a heartbeat. so far nothing.
you sighed when you ended up on his voice mail for the fifth time. “mais malo ou est tu? t'es chiant tu sais ca? rappelle-moi avant que je pense que tu te fait kidnapper imbécile.”
a hand unexpectedly tapped your shoulder lightly. “excuse me mademoiselle?”
“yes?”, you turned in your chair, expecting the maître d’ or a waiter before feeling your heart thump in your chest when you realised who it was.
“i’m sorry, i didn't mean to listen to your conversation but the maître d'hotel sent me here for my table and i heard you talking to…malo? sorry again for interrupting, i'm a friend of his.”
“I-“, your voice wavered and you quickly cleared your throat. “yes i was just leaving him a message. malo is my cousin and we were meant to be meeting for dinner but,” you waved your hand towards his seat for emphasis, “as you can see, he has decided not to show up and he’s not picking his phone either.”
“you were meeting him for dinner?”
“well that was the plan, but clearly he seems to have forgotten.” you responded, kissing your teeth at the thought of your cousin’s actions.
a little chuckle escaped the man as he rubbed the back of his neck seemingly nervous. “i think that your cousin may be playing a game with us.”
you raised a brow at him inquisitively. “and what game is this?”
“first of all, let me introduce myself.” he held out his hand to you. “my name is william, but you can call me wilo.”
you felt your cheeks heat up as you placed your hand into his. “my name is y/n, i kinda already know who you are…” you trailed off as the thumping beat of your heart spread everywhere due to him lifting your hand to his lips.
“enchanté, y/n. is it okay if i sit down?”
“oh!” you snapped out of your reverie. “yes, please sit. sorry, i was slightly away with the fairies.”
“no need to apologise.” he laughed softly, the warm timbers of his deep voice making shivers run down your spine. “would you like to order something? have you looked at the menu?”
“i am hungry but what about malo?”
“so that is part of the game i think your cousin has played - he had no intention of coming along this evening.”
“wait what - that doesn't make sense though?”
a flicker of something you couldn't identify crossed william’s face before his confident persona came back. “i think i can explain it to you, but I’ve had a long day at practice, so please let me buy you dinner at the same time?”
you felt the heat come rushing back to your cheeks. “are you sure?”
“of course i am. my mother raised me to always pay for a lady, en plus pour une qui est aussi belle que toi.”
your cheeks heated even more at the unexpected compliment. “d’accord, merci beaucoup william.” you replied, grabbing the menu you had already studied in order to hide your face.
unbeknownst to you, his grin was even wider at seeing your reaction. “de rien, yn. let me know what you want.”
you both settled on pasta dishes with a bottle of wine to share. you quickly fell into comfortable small talk while waiting on your food. not too long after, your dishes came out and a comfortable silence fell as you started to eat.
“sooo,” you broke the silence before taking a sip of your wine. “wanna tell me about that game you think malo is playing?”
“d’accord…um, it is a bit of a long story. it is also a little bit embarrassing for me.”
you motioned to your pasta. “nothing i love more than an entertaining story while eating good food. i'm a slow eater, you can take your time.”
“okay d’onc…a few months ago we had to go to clairefontaine for team meetings. at one point malo needed something from his cassier and since i was already going to get something from mine, i said that i would get his as well. inside his cassier, it’s like those american films, he has pictures of many people, but there was one that caught my eye. a picture of a girl on a beach with a flower in her hair wearing a massive hoodie.”
“a girl?” you interrupted the story. “but malo doesn't have a girl. i would know if he did.”
“wait - i haven’t finished the story yet. like i was saying, i saw this picture and this girl just looked so beautiful and happy. all i could think is that malo was one lucky man to have a girl like that.”
“did you figure out who this girl is? because i'm getting ready to go and shout at him for not telling me about her.”
“i’m getting there. so the next few days, i keep trying to get him to talk about relationships, girls mais rien. he is not taking the bait. then one night a group of us go out, and a girl at the restaurant starts flirting with him, and he flirts back. when I saw that i was not very happy and decided i was going to talk to him, man to man.” william trailed off.
“and what did he say?”
“well he laughed in my face.”
“attends- quoi?”
“he laughed in my face. he couldn't stop laughing at me, actually. it was very insulting.”
“i’m sure it was but now i'm even more confused.”
william took a deep breath and continued. “when he stopped making fun of me, malo told me that the girl in the picture was someone that he loved, but not romantically. he also said that he was impressed at the fact that i was going to reproach him for a girl i didn't even know."
“so who was the girl?”
"well-" a red tinge coloured his cheeks. "the girl was you."
"it-" your voice caught in your throat. "it was a picture of me?"
"malo said it was from the family holiday you'd been on last year with your other cousins. he said he never sees you happier than when you're by the ocean and that he's pretty sure you have sirene blood in you. he even joked that your picture probably had a siren pull on me. je pense qu'il n'a pas tort."
you sat there, unsure of what to say, not used to hearing comments like this about yourself.
“after that malo ended up teasing me about it while we were there, no big deal. He even ended up telling a few of the others in the team about it and by the end of the week everyone was calling you ma meuf. after that nothing happened, but two weeks ago he brought it up again. said he had something that would make me very happy to hear.”
the penny dropped in your head. “what did malo tell you?”
“he called me - very late as well, it was already midnight at that point and i was surprised because we'd been hanging out that day with others. he told me that he’d been with you afterwards, and he must have shown you a picture of me from earlier or something but you told him you thought i was good looking. you also told him that you’d seen me play on tv and thought i was a good player. then he asked if i wanted him to set us up so that we can meet. i initially thought that he was pulling my leg but he promised me he was serious. et maintenant nous voici."
“so i have a bit of a confession to make.” you blurted.
“the floor is yours. my turn to enjoy a nice story while eating.”
“about two weeks ago, one of my girls got a promotion so a few of us went out to celebrate. i had a few glasses of wine, which was a bit silly because it makes me tipsy quite quickly. malo has my location and offered to pick me up since he'd just been out with friends. i was on his phone on the drive home looking for a childhood picture and saw the group ones you had taken earlier...," your voice trailed off as you mentally kicked yourself for your actions that night.
william cocked his eyebrow. "continue?"
your words rushed out in an attempt to finish the story as quickly as possible. "i ended up zooming in on your face all giggly and malo saw, he asked me what i was doing, i ended up on a rant about how handsome i think you are et que tu est le pain and how powerful and sure of yourself you come across on the field and how i find that really attractive, and that he was a terrible cousin because he had never even thought to introduce me to you. i didn't think much of it afterwards apart from making him swear he wouldn't tell anyone else about it. and well...nous voici."
"nous voici." william responding affirmatively before a charming smirk spread on his face. "j'ai l'impression que malo a eu le nez fin dans cette situation."
"really?" you turned your attention back to your almost finished pasta. "how is that?"
"because now i'm feeling the sirene's pull even more and want to take you on a date without malo's meddling. that is, if you would like to, of course."
"you don't find the story i just told you embarrassing?"
"all that story did was make me even more intrigued in getting to know you."
"oh." you found yourself lost for words for the upteenth time that evening.
william put his hands in the air. "i'm sorry if i'm coming on too strong, and of course you can say no if you don't want to-"
"give me your phone." you cut him off, hand extended towards him. unlocking it and handing it to you, he watched as you put in your phone number, saving your contact as 'yn 🧜🏾♀️'. "there you go. now you can text me for our next date."
william's smirk reemerged. "bien sur, ma sirene. en fait, who says that tonight's date has to end soon? i know an amazing dessert place a few minutes walk from here if you're interested?"
you smiled back at him wholeheartedly, dimples on full display. "dessert sounds amazing, thank you."
"okay. let me go take care of the bill and i'll be right back."
as he walked away, your phone flashed with a new notification.

Title: When in Rome
Pairing: Ferran Torres x Blackfem!reader
Summary: Following the end of the World Cup, a summer escape to Italy felt like the ultimate reset before preseason kicks off. But after a few too many spritzes in the heart of Rome, Ferran finds himself managing a clingy intoxicated Y/N through the cobblestone streets.
Warnings:Heavy alcohol consumption, public intoxication, suggestive touching/behavior in public, extremely clingy Y/N.
Word Count: 1.8k
The Roman air was heavy with the scent of night-blooming jasmine, roasted espresso, Italian language bouncing on the walks.
Tucked into a dimly lit lounge in a quiet piazza, Ferran sat leaned back against the leather booth, looking casual yet effortlessly fine. He wore a crisp, textured white short-sleeved knit top that showed off his golden summer tan, paired with loose-fitting beige shorts and casual black sneakers. His dark hair was styled loosely back, revealing a warm, striking smile as he traded jokes with the table, looking like the picture of relaxed Mediterranean cool.
And right next to him was you.
You were dressed in a black backless, slinky halter neck dress that hugged every curve of your body. Your curls were pinned up in a loose, high messy bun, exposing the long, delicate line of your neck and back to the ambient glow of the bar.
The only issue? You were completely, hopelessly, outrageously drunk.
"Ferran," you slurred softly, the word dragging out as you let your full body weight tilt sideways, pressing hard into his ribs. Your warm fingers slid over his knee, tracing small, erratic circles onto his beige shorts. "Ferran. Listen to me. Fer."
Ferran turned his head, an amused little smirk touching the corner of his mouth as he looked down at you. "I’m listening mi vida, I’ve been listening all night."
"No, but—wait. Listen," you insisted, your cognitive train immediately derailing. You grabbed the soft knit fabric of his white top, tugging it with desperate insistence. "You're talking to Gavi. Why are you talking to Gavi? He doesn't even... he's not even wearing nice shoes tonight, Ferran."
Across the glowing amber bar counter, Gavi choked on his gintonic, letting out a loud, indignant laugh. "Hey! My shoes are fine!"
"Yeah whatever makes you sleep at night, they're ugly, Gavi!" you shouted across the table, completely devoid of volume control, before dropping your voice back down to a needy, pathetic whisper against Ferran’s ear. "Tell him his shoes are ugly. And then look at me."
"He's complaining about his feet, y/n/n," Ferran murmured, letting out a laugh that vibrated right against your cheek. His massive, warm palm landed firmly on the bare expanse of your mid-back, fingers pressing into your skin with a heavy, possessive weight that made your stomach flip. "I have to talk to him so he doesn't throw a fit at the server."
"I don't care about his feet," you muttered, shifting your hips until you were scrambling directly into his lap right there at the amber-lit bar. You wrapped both arms tightly around his neck, burying your face into his collarbone, inhaling his cologne, warm skin, and faint evening breeze. "You promised you were mine tonight. You said, 'yn, I know I've been busy with the world cup and everything, I promise after it all, I'm yours.' You said that. Exactly those words."
"I did say that," Ferran conceded smoothly, his arm wrapping around your waist like an iron band, thumb digging into the curve of your hip to hold you against him.
Ines, sitting directly across from you, leaned over the table with a soft, sympathetic laugh. "Y/N, sweetie... how many of those spritzes did you have?"
Seeing your absolute safe space, you looked up from Ferran’s neck, letting out a dramatic, sorrowful sigh. "Ines... tell him he has to carry me. My feet are... they’re dead. They're literally deceased. And he’s being so mean to me."
"He is not being mean, you’re just in full velcro mode," Ines giggled, shaking her head at Ferran. "Good luck, man. She’s not letting you go tonight."
"I am not velcro," you announced with sudden, hyper-articulate precision, sitting up straight on his lap and staring at Ines with wide, serious eyes. "I am... a very affectionate partner. I am expressing... love. Is expressing love illegal in Italy, huh? Is it?"
"It's not illegal, princesa," Ferran whispered, his hand sliding up your bare spine to wrap firmly around the back of your neck, his fingers tangling in your loose baby hairs. He tilted your head back softly just enough to force you to look into his eyes. "But you're making a scene."
"Let them watch," you hummed, your mood shifting instantly from dramatic sorrow to pure temptation as you slid your hands under the hem of his top, feeling the warm, hard contour of his abs. "You're pretty. I like looking at you. Oh Ferran, oh Ferran like the girly pop say"
“Oh ferran,” Olmo chimed in immediately, teasingly laughing at how your boyfriend's face dropped.
You being like this is basically a test to his patience. The relaxed, easygoing aura he’d held all night melted into something far heavier.
"Basta," he commanded softly, the low tone acting like an absolute order. "Come on, behave for me. We are in public."
The tone hit you like a drug. You melted completely, your forehead dropping onto his shoulder as you nodded immediately against his chest. "Vale... vale, (ok) Ferran. I'm behaving."
"Good," he murmured, leaning down to press a kiss to your mouth, tasting sweet citrus and sugar.
"Alright, break it up, madre,” Pedri groaned, tossing a crumpled napkin straight at Ferran's face. "We're trying to walk toward the Trevi Fountain before Lamine collapses, and you guys are practically making out."
"Shut up, Pedri," Ferran responded without looking away from you, though he gently helped you adjust back onto your feet.
The moment your heels hit the uneven stone floor, your ankles wobbled dramatically. "Whoa—nope. The floor is slanted."
"The floor isn't slanted hahahh,," Ferran chuckled, wrapping his arm around your waist to catch your full weight before you could stumble. "I got you."
"My legs are made of noodles," you whimpered, dragging your feet as the group began spilling out into the night air.
Ines caught up to your side, taking your hand warmly. "Come on, hold onto me for a sec while the boys pay."
You leaned your entire head onto her shoulder as you shuffled toward the exit. "Ines... listen to me. I love him so much. Look at him. Look at him in that white shirt. He’s like... built out of rock. It’s crazy. How is he real?"
"I know, babe," she laughed quietly, steadying you. "He's very real. Now stand up straight before you fall into that plant display."
"I am standing straight!" you insisted, swaying visibly. "Look at my feet. Perfectly... straight line."
When Ferran finished paying, he walked over, taking one look at you drooping against Ines and feeling a surge of possessive affection. He reached out, hooking his hand around your waist and drawing you right back into his chest.
"Come here," he ordered gently.
You instantly wrapped both arms around his bicep, clinging to him. "Don't leave me."
"Never," he murmured, kissing the top of your head as the squad hit the cobblestone streets.
The Roman alleyways were alive with distant music, laughter, and warm yellow lanterns casting long shadows against ancient brick walls. The squad walked ahead in a noisy cluster, Gavi laughing loudly with his girlfriend, Lamine avoiding pigeons while Olmo made fun of him, and Pedri chatting with Ines and his girlfriend.
You and Ferran lagged several yards behind because your navigation was completely compromised. Every ten steps, you stopped walking entirely, tugging on his shirt to spin him around.
"Ferran, stop. Look at the moon," you demanded, pointing vaguely at a third-story balcony that had a laundry line hanging from it.
"That's a shirt, yn” he giggled, stopping right in the middle of a dim, narrow alleyway.
"No, but think about it!" you gasped, suddenly hit with intense drunk philosophy, taking his jaw in both hands. "We're in Rome. Julius Caesar walked on these exact stones. What if... what if he stood right here? Right where your shoes are?"
"I don't think Caesar wore Nike, yn," Ferran said, his hands coming up to hold you straight.
"You're not taking me seriously!" you pouted dramatically, your bottom lip trembling slightly. "I'm having a profound moment and you're laughing at me."
Ferran’s brown eyes softened, but the heat returned quickly. He pulled you out of the main walkway, backing you up until your spine hit the cool stone wall of an apartment building, completely shadowed from the streetlamps.
"I am taking you very seriously," he whispered, stepping directly between your thighs, placing one hand flat against the wall beside your head, trapping you in his space. "You are so chaotic tonight."
"You love it," you bite your lips, hands sliding under his white top, feeling the warmth of his skin.
"I love you," he corrected, his voice dropping into a dangerous rumble. His hand slid down your waist to grasp the back of your thigh, hooking your leg up around his hip. The movement hitched your dress up, exposing your smooth, bare skin to the night air. "You wanted all my attention? Now you have it."
"Ferran..." you gasped softly, your head falling back against the stone as his lips traced a burning path along your jaw, biting gently at your neck. "We're... people are going to see..."
"You didn't care about people when you were sitting on my lap at the bar," he murmured against your skin, his thumb digging possessively into your thigh to hold you pinned against him.
His mouth claimed yours again in a deep, heavy kiss. You melted completely into the wall, your fingers digging tightly into the fabric of his shirt, entirely surrendered to his touch.
A sharp, echoed whistle cut through the alley.
"Yo! Torres! Stop eating your girlfriend in public! We're getting gelato!" Pedri's voice bellowed, followed by loud laughter from Lamine and Olmo down the street.
Ferran pulled back slowly, resting his forehead against yours, his chest rising and falling as he let out a low, breathless laugh. He reached down, gently smoothing your dress back over your thighs.
"Zero timing," he muttered, sweeping a thumb over your swollen lips.
"I don't want gelato though," you mumbled, instantly wrapping your arms around his torso like glue. "I want to go back to the hotel. Carry me."
"Soon," Ferran promised, his fingers interlacing firmly with yours as he guided you out of the shadows. "Five minutes with the others, then I'm taking you home."
When you reunited with the group outside the corner gelateria Ines looked at you, taking in your droopy eyes, messy bun, and smudged lip gloss. "Survived the alleyway?"
"He's picking on me, girl" you grumbled, burying your face directly into Ferran's back. "He won't let me talk about Julius Caesar."
"She's completely hopeless tonight," Ferran laughed, pulling you around to his front and wrapping both arms tightly around your waist, resting his chin on your shoulder as the rest of the group ordered.
He leaned down, his warm breath sliding against your ear as he whispered so softly only you could hear.
"Keep acting like this in public, and you won't be walking tomorrow morning either."
Your breath hitched, a deep, hot flush spreading down your neck as you turned your head slightly to catch his gaze. You didn't say another word. You just tightened your grip on his arms, leaning back against his chest, completely content to let him take full control of the night.

malo was occasionally late, but when it came to you he was always reachable. the rare times in the past where he hadn't picked up your call, he’d called you back in a heartbeat. so far nothing.
you sighed when you ended up on his voice mail for the fifth time.
