I have finished my first rope necklace, made entirely with size 11 Delica beads. This piece was to teach myself how to make rope necklaces with the peyote stitch method, which I feel more comfortable with over bead wrapping. I plan on keeping this one, but hopefully I'll have more that I can sell here soon. I've been inactive because I been working. While I've been working I decided to bring a longstanding idea I had to life. The hummingbird (walela - ᏩᎴᎳ) and the colors used are a nod to my community's stickball team. The basket pattern seen in the bird is the Star on the Mountain/Chief's Daughters pattern. Working Digital Photo March 2020 . . Alternative title: "Damn it Kyrie I'm busy." This image is part of my snapshot series currently titled "Public Indians Private Cherokees." Dad is an enrolled member of the EBCI. He doesn't speak the language, nor does he participate in the community other than his job, but he still lives on the Qualla Boundary. My childhood home is his childhood home. My father's workplace temporarily shut down during the early months of lock down. This didn't bother him in the slightest: Dad saw it as more time to dedicate to his side hobby of automotive work. He's able to keep an entire building dedicated to his hobby. You're Disgusting Airbrush and Stencil Print April 2020 . . Coming to the end of my time at WCU I was in a printmaking class. Our final assignment was to make a print series in response to the pandemic. I chose to address my feeling of disgust: the pandemic made me realize how little we think to wash our hands, how many people touch surfaces and doorknobs, etc. This is one of the better copies out of a series of 20 that I did. No Longer a Warrior Motel September 2019 Digital photograph . . We want to be in control of our image. But what do you do when you have to modify your image to make a living? What do you do when that modified image only helps for a short period of time? The Warrior Motel is just one example of many in Cherokee where our image was modified to help our tourism economy. While it may seem like a harmless, rotting building on the side of the road on Highway 19, it is one of many reminders of what became of the Cherokee homeland and how quickly it was chewed up and spat back out by a changing tourism economy. The use of the "savage warrior" imagr to advertise a place to sleep, to "experience the smokies," giving any visitor the expectation that they are in a "new and unexplored" area - this and more give outsiders a very skewed view on what Cherokee actually is. . . From the 2019 Teen Miss Cherokee Pageant October 2019 Digital photograph . . In 2019, the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians hosted their 107th annual Cherokee Indian Fair.  As always, one of the biggest draws of the fair was the annual Miss Cherokee Pageants. I greatly enjoy going to these events to practice my photography, as I find it a perfect practice in timing, lighting, and framing. My images from the 2019 Pageant are my strongest and possibly my most treasured. 2019 was the last time I got to attend any Miss Cherokee Pageants due to the 2020 fair and Pageant being canceled due to Covid-19. Because of that cancelation, the misses who were crowned in 2019 are allowed to hold their reign for one more year.  2019 Teen Miss contestants stand together as the Pageant results are announced.
