Please take the time to consider donating and/or coming out to join us for all the fun!! ——— https://mda.donordrive.com/participant/Adam-Klein ——— In March of 2016 our family received the heartbreaking news that our youngest son, Cooper, has Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD). DMD is a genetic disorder characterized by progressive muscle degeneration and weakness. It affects about one in 5,000 males at birth & NO CURE FOR MUSCULAR DYSTROPHY IS KNOWN. This absolutely broke our heart into pieces. As a parent I cannot put in words the feeling of not being able to help your child & just make everything right for him, knowing the road ahead is going to be very difficult...knowing how intelligent he is & trying to show him how special he is even though all he wants is just to be like everyone else. We will do anything to help Cooper. One move we made was to get Cooper into Johns Hopkins, who work alongside the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) to explore any treatment options available and stay on the front-line of any possible cures. MDA-supported researchers actively pursue several strategies in DMD, such as gene therapy, exon skipping, stop codon read-through and gene repair. Human clinical trials are under way for some of these strategies. MDA exists mainly due to donations. That's why I've decided to start a team to raise funds in this years MDA Muscle Walk at UMBC on May 4th Please join COOPER'S TROOPERS or make a donation to support the 100,000 kids and adults who will be served by MDA this year. The MDA also foots the bill to send Cooper and many other kids to a weeklong Summer Camp & we'd like to help offset some of those costs through the Muscle Walk. Cooper has attended the MDA camp every year since his diagnosis and it is one of his most anticipated times of the year.
