Look me deep in my eyes like I'm a river worth wading
i hope that man dies alone and goes to hell.
(i am no longer christian and don't believe in heaven or hell, except for his case. he deserves to burn in hell and never get a second chance.)
i so badly want to sit down and write my personal interpretation of every single wtialy song, but if i did that, i'd for sure want to post it as long format on youtube or something.
every time i re-listen to the album, my appreciation grows for songs that weren't initially my favorite. i used to skip over 'a knock on the door' because it was so painfully different from the rest of the album. it was so raw (and not in the way 'waco, texas' is), so stripped back of the usual overwhelming, echoing production hayden has spoiled us with (i love her production style. i'm a sucker for beautifully created walls of sound - obvious by my favorite tracks being tempest and willoughby's theme). of course there's still that reverb i adore, but the track is so empty feeling (IN A GOOD WAY). the ending of 'maybe you are' just echoed and drowned beneath the instrumentals to the point it's almost inaudible feels a certain way to me. it echos that empty feeling of uncertainty. ethel realizing maybe she didn't know willoughby as well as she thought she did... it's almost like breaking away from the fantasy. the emotions that come with that are so unbelievably overwhelming that i'm sure numbness follows (radio towers - which i also feel like is a transition from ethel's uncertainty to willoughby's emotional state in tempest).
of course, this my personal interpretation influenced by my own experiences. i relate heavily to ethel for more than one reason, so of course i'm going to subconsciously push my feelings onto her, it's just part of art interpretation. and w/ hayden picking the most vague version (love u queen), ofc we're all going to see the story differently.
to add to this: i came to the personal realization that i love those giant walls of sound so much because i'm uncomfortable with how bare and raw tracks like 'a knock at the door', 'janie', and 'waco, texas' are. it's almost so silent that it lets me think clearly and connect consciously. it's easy to feel emotional to tempest and willoughby's theme because it's so overwhelming (and beautifully produced, might i add) and just the progression of chords and introduction of new elements impacts me so heavily. i love music so much, man...
my point and personal discovery being: i'm so used to being overwhelmed and being emotional due to the overwhelm that having something so raw pull at my heart strings is uncomfortable. i like music that isn't just walls of sound, but when i want to feel something, i gravitate to those big, crushing waves. ik this has to do something with my window of tolerance, i can feel it. i'll ask my therapist what she thinks and report back.

Sun Bleached Flies
its dark, 22 degrees outside, perverts is playing softly, and the entirety of gemini home entertainment is casting my room in eerie shadows. it's peaceful, surprisingly.
