It was hump day of Hell week. Setting the lights went smoother than he had ever expierenced so the decision to have an early night was made and everyone was released.
On the subway home, Blaine texted Kurt to let him know that he’d be home early. They had spent so little quality time together than with the remaining hours of sunlight left, he wasnted to take advantage of it.
Walking into his house, his house!, he still couldn’t believe it.
“Kurt! I’m home!” He called out for his husband, knowing it would be a lot harder to find him in their house than it had been in their apartment.
Kurt appeared in the doorway of the kitchen, a dish towel thrown over his shoulder.
“Hi, handsome,” Kurt greeted his husband, wrapping his arms around Blaine’s shoulders and pressing themselves together. Kurt sighed into Blaine’s neck, feeling content with Blaine rubbing his back.
Pulling back to place a kiss on Blaine’s lips, Kurt studied his husband. Blaine looked wrecked. They both hadn’t had much sleep the night before, and today had been chaotic - with Kurt’s shrink appointment, grocery shopping, and Blaine’s meetings.
“I made lasagne for dinner. It’s all done but I just need to make a salad. What did you want to do tonight?”
Blaine rested his hands on Kurt’s hips, getting lost in the blue seas of his husbands eyes.
“The weather is perfect,” he started out slowly, his mind adjusting the the slower pace of his home, “Let’s take Bonnie out for a walk and explore the neighborhood” He had spent so little time in his new home and surrounding area, he felt like this was the perfect plan.
Blaine would be able to spend time, just walking and talking, with his husband and they would be able to familiarize themselves with their new neighborhood. It would also give them both a most relaxing break from all their work.
“That sounds perfect,” Kurt said, turning off the oven. As we was doing that, Bonnie scampered into the kitchen, jumping up on Blaine. Her little paws only reached just below his knees, and the sight was adorable.
“Daddy’s home,” Kurt says in an animated voice, smiling as Blaine scooped up their puppy, letting her lick his face.
“I’ll go and grab her lead and some shoes. Are you ready to go?”
”I was born ready,” he responded, cuddling with the puppy. He loved playing with their puppy and waited for the day the show to end and spend more time with the people and animals he loves.
When Kurt returned with the lead, Blaine took it and attached it to Bonnie’s collar. Grabbing hold of his husbands hand and flashing him a grin, the three of them set out from their home, wandering into the new environment.
There was a slight summer breeze as Kurt and Blaine walked down their street. They hadn’t spoken to their neighbors yet, but Kurt was hoping that no one would think badly of their unique living situation.
Kurt smiled as Bonnie sniffed every available space, eager to seek out new smells. They walked for a good ten minutes before Kurt pointed out a park up ahead.
“Is that a park?” Kurt asked, turning to Blaine, who nodded in return. “Why have we never seen it before?”
”I don’t know, but lets go check it out!” It had been a while since Blaine had been to a proper park. He could see a set of swings, a fort-like structure that kids could run and play and hide through, a sand box, and it was just marvelous.
The grassy meadow around the park was designated an off-leash dog park. This would be perfect for their children and Bonnie. Starting to catch traces of dogs that had been in the park earlier, Bonnie strained at her leash and Blaine induldged her, letting go of Kurt and jogging up to the park.
Bonnie stopped at a particurly strong scent and Kurt caught up with them. Blaine had been eyeing the swings while watching Bonnie and as soon as his husband was close enough, handed off the lead and sprinted the short distance.
In a nanosecond, he was swinging through the air and laughing like a little boy.
Kurt smiled as he watched Blaine on the swingset, his curls blowing in the wind and smile a mile wide. It had been quite a while since Kurt had seen Blaine so happy.
Kurt began to imagine picturing their own children on the swing set, high pitched giggles and curls blowing in the wind, just like their daddy’s. Kurt stayed in the dog park, keeping one eye on Bonnie and the other on Blaine, smiling at the goober he married.
They were the only people in the dog park, and Kurt pressed a quick kiss to Blaine’s cheek as he sat down at the bench next to Kurt.
Blaine snaked his arm around Kurt’s waist, pulling him closer and placing a kiss on his temple before responding.
“I am having a blast” he whishpered into his husbands ear. He really had no clue why he said it that way other than it was what he felt like doing. Maybe after having to be loud all day it was nice to be able to be quiet.
“You should come swing with me” Blaine patted Kurt’s knee and stared at him with his puppy dog eyes. Swinging was almost the most fun thing in the world and he knew it would make his Kurtsie happy.
“We can’t leave Bonnie here by herself,” Kurt said, “but if we tie her lead to the fort, it should be fine.”
Kurt, Blaine and Bonnie ran over to the swings, sitting on them and pushing off with their feet. They laughed, giggled and tried to beat eachother with who could get higher.
Kurt felt like he was on top of the world. Laughing with his husband, playing with his puppy and dreaming of his future babies, nothing could bring Kurt’s mood down.
Blaine's stomach rumbled and they remembered that they still had to go eat their dinner. Untying Bonnie, he grabbed onto Kurt's hand again and after taking a quick look around, kissed his husband lovingly on the lips.
"Love you" he whispered and smiled when Kurt whispered it back. Walking home, they swung their clasped hands back and forth and laughing once in a while when Bonnie sniffed something she didn't like.
Walking into their house, Blaine could smell the lasagne and his stomach grumbled again.
