For a slightly more concrete action, I looked for a charity that helps refugees from Africa in NI. This one is a certified charity, which is my preference:

The charity is listed on an official government registry.

The charity hasn’t updated their Insta in a little over a year, nor their Facebook, but I don’t know enough about their operations to tell if that says something about whether they’re currently active vs. whether social media was deemed a poor use of limited resources.

The charity is associated with explicitly religious events and concerns. I couldn’t find a comparable charity that doesn’t have explicitly religious affiliations (the next best was Christian), but I’d like to remind people that religion is often a huge part of community cohesion for immigrants. But if you feel strongly about that, I will only say that this is one of the few charities I found, with admittedly limited time, that didn’t have an all-white board. So, while I don’t know where they stand on things like LGBTQIA+ issues (and the silence may be “telling” or it may be the result of navigating more complex pressures, there isn’t enough data to conclude anything), I personally still think donating here is better than doing nothing at all, absent any other option.

If people know more or know better places to donate, please help.

in new zealand, our evil government are trying to legislate definitions of women and men, in ways that are legally incoherent but clearly trying to pave the way for more horrifically transphobic legislation. we have an election in a few months but our main opposition party, and all our mainstream news media, are so spineless and cooked that there's a good chance the ghouls will win reelection.

it took 2 whole months for local terf group 'speak up for women' to get 2,000 signatures on the petition that led to this new bill in our parliament.

it's taken five days for this pro-trans 'they don't speak for us' petition to get 17,000 signatures.

this is a show of support that is really heartening for a lot of trans people in our corner of the world.

cis/ish women, if you're from here but haven't signed yet, please do. and if you're not from here and you know any new zealanders, could you send them this petition? a full fifth of our population lives overseas, and there's a good chance they don't follow the news.

I grew up around old-school hippies at a place called Lothlorien (in Indiana) and one of my friends dads held a sauna day every Sunday in the middle of the woods (like you cannot drive to their house, you park about a quarter mile away and walk into the woods kind of woods). as a person who uses either public bathroom on a toss of a coin i gottta say its kind of ridicuous that people are so attached to them being seperate facilities. youre not usually gonna see anyones dick at the urinal and youre not usually gonna be able to spy on any women. the stalls are the same except one has a little tampon bin. we would lose nothing if all bathrooms were unisex and i'll die on that hill.
