i was going through the language attitudes tag and i came across your post and i wonder how do those questions relate to language attitudes? im not an english speaker myself so that's why i am asking, are those sentences wrong intentionally?
Yes, the sentences were wrong intentionally!
The idea of the experiment was to gauge what people thought about each of the mistakes. So they ranged from (in what American school grammar classes would classify) almost inconsequential to “Why are you making this mistake you uneducated fool” - yes those are the technical terms.
It was based off an experiment/article from Maxine Hairston called Not All Errors Are Created Equal: Nonacademic Readers in the Professions Respond to Lapses in Usage. I think her final product was a lot better summarized than just what you’d seen with the case study that I had set up, so I would recommend taking a look at it! :)
