So, on to why I’m becoming private if I do return at all. I don’t like art theft. I hate art theft. I don’t like people taking art, editing it, and then not crediting the artists. I loathe it with an unbridled passion. It doesn’t mean I want anything bad to happen to anyone, or that I hate anyone. I hate what they’re doing and I’m sick of it. I’m tired of watching people defend it like it’s harmless.

Not only that, but to be honest? I mentally can’t handle more than 2-4 partners. It’s a low number and I’m going to be selective about it. Two positions are already filled. I want partners I can feel comfortable explaining personal situations to. I want partners who don’t mind if it takes me a while to reply because of that. I would prefer people with OCs. There’s not a huge pool of fandom characters I’m interested in right now, to be honest.

RP is a hobby, art is going to be my job. Hobbies will take a back seat to that and my personal life. I may end up making a new skype as well, and only adding certain people. I’m sorry to anyone who doesn’t make it to my new accounts. I can’t handle large groups of people anymore. I’m already juggling between two groups and my close best friends, so…that’s a lot.

Out of Nightmares

/sighs, dusts off her admin shoes, and stands on her soapbox.

RP communities are not immune to drama. Whenever you have a large enough group of people, views and personalities will clash. Unfortunately, it’s part of human nature. There are a variety of methods to counteract or stop drama, and ensure that it’s done responsibly. Coming from a former forum admin who has no desire to return to said position, I’m going to give you my quick view on it.

1. Deal with it privately as much as humanly possible. If someone is being toxic in your group, you address them, and the affected parties only. You do not make it public. Why not? It will only further sow the seeds of discord. It has the power to make people take sides, get involved when they shouldn’t be, and get nasty. People will get anxious, scared, and angry. They’ll react. 

2. Talk to the affected parties only, and take as neutral of a stance as possible until you have all of the facts. It’s not easy to do, especially with emotions running high. However, until you know everything about the situation(s), you need to remain neutral. Again, only talk to those affected. Outsider influence will only muddle the facts. 

3. Have firm rules and consequences in place before drama occurs. If you’re a group, you’re going to need to have rules. Do not make them subjective. Make them objective. What do I mean by that? I mean making them clear statements of fact. “You do x, and y happens.” Once they’re established, you model them, and you follow through with them. If someone breaks a rule, you follow through with the necessary consequence. This applies to yourself as well. As always, you can allow for grace periods, and rules can be subject to change. If that is so, make sure that is in your rules beforehand, and not an afterthought. 

4. If you need to ban a person from the group, make it quiet. Again, and I will stress this until I am blue in the face, only involve the affected parties. Do not make an announcement. It’s not necessary. Deal with it in a polite, calm manner.

5. This is my extreme pacifist side talking, but don’t make threats. I don’t care if they’re not serious, or “it’s just the internet.” It’s not okay. You can be blunt without saying “I will fuck you up if you try that again”—or something to that equivalent. It will result in anger, or other people feeling threatened. It will make you unapproachable. If we want the internet to be a safe place, let’s start acting like it. 

These are my personal views. I have no idea what’s going on with what’s being reblogged. If I stepped on anyone’s toes, I do apologize. I’ve been around the block before. I was an administrator for a few years in various places, and it was not fun. I tried to abide by these methods when I did, and they were rather effective.
