I'm working on a little wooden hand cart for larp reasons and because I like to make my own life harder, it also has to flatpack and be made with no budget out of free scrap lumber. Obviously.

This is as far as I got this afternoon, with lots still to be done.

This rolls shockingly well on first handling. I might widen the hub and add spacers-- that's why the axle is long right now-- but it's possibly unnecessary. I can move this with one hand and very little pressure.

It turns on a dime. Because neither the wheels or axle are fixed in place, you can pivot this thing in place almost effortlessly.

The handle height is excellent for pushing or pulling, because it's almost hip height. You can basically just walk against this and it'll go.

It absolutely needs a kickstand, and loading will have to be done thoughtfully. It's basically a seesaw. To help it stay flat to load, I'm going to add couple fold-down legs.

There’s actually been a load of vitriol leveled against folks who try to raise traditional colored cottons, because a lot of cotton growers don’t want the colored cottons cross-pollinating with their standard white cotton.

But anyway cotton can be grown in lovely natural shades of greens, reddish-brown ochres, and browns, all of which deepen with a good boil in water with a bit of washing soda thrown in.

The color obviously doesn’t fade or run, because it’s not dye. It’s the intrinsic color of the fiber itself.
