Wait I’m sorry parent/child incest fic?????? Why does that exist? Why do you KNOW that exists?????? What the fuck 🤢
I feel like you can sort of tell how long (or not) someone has existed in fannish spaces by how outraged they get about things like this. Like rings in a tree trunk lol. I've been in so many fandoms. At least one, but often multiple at the same time, since I was a teenager. I've seen just. Everything.
Sex pollen. Mpreg. Incest. Monster fucking. Tentacles. Pairings like Snape/Hermione that would be crazy abusive and illegal if they were real. Wild kinks. The babygirlification of all kinds of villains. So much RPF (the 'I sincerely believe they are secretly a couple' kind and the 'this is fictional but it's fun to imagine they're in love' kind.)
You learn to just scroll past shit you don't like or unfollow people or filter tags. The tldr of fandom is that humans are weird as fuck. And creative, and unhinged, and traumatized, and talented. And amazing. And every single thing that you clutch your pearls about 'well surely someone doesn't want to read/write THAT!' - someone does. Probably lots of people do. And those people are perfectly normal. In their offline lives, they're parents and siblings and they have jobs and friends and they go about their lives and they don't cause any harm. And that's the sticking point. There's this really concerning, frankly highly Evangelical idea that if someone enjoys the wrong kind of fiction, they are obviously a Bad Person. But nothing is that simple, and thought crimes aren't real, and you definitely have some thoughts or ideas that someone else would find fucked up. You don't have to like every kind of fic that exists. I certainly don't. But shaming people for their harmless fantasies about fictional characters is so boring. I saw Goody Proctor enjoying a Toxic Ship! Good for you, I'll alert the pope.
Hate it when TikTok farm cosplayers and cottagecore types say stuff like "I'm not going to use modern equipment because my grandmothers could make do without it." Ma'am, your great grandma had eleven children. She would have killed for a slow cooker and a stick blender.
I’ve noticed a sort of implicit belief that people used to do things the hard way in the past because they were tougher or something. In reality, labor-saving devices have been adopted by the populace as soon as they were economically feasible. No one stood in front of a smoky fire or a boiling pot of lye soap for hours because they were virtuous, they did it because it was the only way to survive.
Absolutely!! There is a difference between learning how to do it the hard way in case shit hits the fan so that you have those skills.... And doing it the hard way for the virtue points. My family still has a handful of *small* farms that we do everything by hand, plowing with oxen and horses, bailing by hand, scything grain and hay, winnowing by hand, etc. the whole whole 1800s type thing (no, we aren't Amish or Mennonite) . It's there for a learning experience so we don't forget the skills (we also learn to repair and *make* that equipment). The rest of the farms are very freaking modern.
hi guys! discord is doing a survey on how people would like ai to be integrated into discord. take it and say fuck no to every question. when you get to "in general, how do you feel about discord inegrating ai features?", respond that you would actively get everyone you know off of discord and wouldn't pay for nitro or other shop items if they added ai features.
like one of your friends is super obsessed with a thing so whenever you see something about it you’re like “YES THIS THING” but you’re not the one obsessed with it. they are. you know very little about this thing and yet it still excites you because it excites your friend
People expect Soap to go absolutely feral mad, angry, burst with violence yknow. Usual soap. Because while soap is sunshine he's also explosive.
But no. No. Soap goes quiet. Eerily so. And they think yeah it's grief, it makes sense, poor John. But no he goes the wrong kind of quiet.
The kind that makes hair stand at the back of Price's neck. See, Price is a scary motherfucker, so he isn't scared of much but this John?
The only person that made him feel like this was when he saw Ghost after he got back from Mexico. When he looked into those eyes and didn't recognize in them his fellow soldier, his Lt Riley, but instead something else, something forever changed.
Johnny's no longer a sun, that's a rapidly collapsing star that's going turn their world into supernova.
And the brutality of the way he turns everything in their path for vengeance to rubble freaks everyone in 141 out.
And then they find Simon alive and the supernova stops, and then Ghost opens his eyes in the hospital room and says "Why the long face, Johnny?" And for the first time the sun shines again as MacTavish smiles.
And everyone on the base breathes again, while Price has a sinking realisation that if those two won't retire together - no matter which one of them dies, the world will pay the price for separating the sun from its moon.
Haircuts on bad guys and satellite static
gunshots that "crack" and sound full automatic
knife-fighting styles that say "former Marines"
these are some very distinctive things.
M16 search patterns, CIA stances
unexplained hitmen with Korean accents
sounds of small drones with mechanical springs
these are some very distinctive things.
When the blonde bites
when our Bre sings
when I'm always mad
I identify some distinctive things,
and then I don't feel so bad.
(Big thanks to this post by @lindseymcdonaldseyelashes for the list of "very distinctive" moments)
WHUMPTOBER is a month-long, prompt-based creation CHALLENGE (think: Inktober, but whumpier). There are four prompts for each day of the month, giving 124 for you to play with! There is also a list of 18 alternative prompts that can be subbed in for any day to give participants as much creative freedom as possible.
All prompts are meant to serve as inspiration without being taken literally (e.g. you don’t have to include the exact wording of prompts into your work). Feel free to run rampant on interpretation. For example, if the prompt is “flame", you could create something with reference to a candle/campfire, your character could have suffered a burn, or the flame could be a reference to an ‘old flame’ - an old relationship. It’s truly down to you!
You can produce work in any media you choose, including but not limited to: writing, visual artwork, photo/video/audio edits, paper crafts and elaborate recommendation lists (not just a list of links). You can participate as much or as little as you want (i.e. you don’t have to do ALL the prompts if you don’t want to) and prompts can be used in any order. They are also free to use even after the event ends.
Please make sure to read the Event Info and FAQ carefully, as most of your questions will be answered there already. For everything else, you are welcome to come to our ask box or ask questions in our Discord server here.

a scene must be included PRIOR to sex where the characters READ their birth certificates OUT LOUD so the reader will know they were born on the SAME DATE to avoid any disgusting AGE GAPS
Parker and Hardison knew Elliot had finally settled when he disappeared for a couple of days and returned with a carefully packed crate of herb plants in decorative pots and a small fireproof safe full of photographs.
Well, technically they knew he’d really settled when he unpacked the photographs and hung them up in the kitchen. (By this time Parker had already accidentally killed the paprika plant.)
“Who’s that?” she asked, sitting on the counter, watching Elliot carefully hang a photograph of a beautiful, dangerous-looking woman next to the refrigerator (far from the heat and splatters of the stove).
“Granny Peggy,” Elliot said, and gave no extra information, as if the name itself was sufficient.
“Your grandma?” Parker asked.
“Sorta how Hardison’s Nana is,” Elliot said.
“I hear my name?” Hardison yelled from the other room.
“Come look, Elliot’s Sharing Things,” Parker called. Hardison’s head popped into the kitchen.
“Like snacks?”
“Look, that’s his Granny Peggy,” Parker pointed.
Hardison stared at Elliot. “You are Peggy Carter’s grandson?” he asked.
“No! We just called her that. Also how the hell do you know who Peggy Carter is?” Elliot said, at the same time Parker squeaked, “I thought Peggy Carter was a myth!”
Hey! I’m the age of some of your moms and aunts and the OG version of this post helped me catch my cancer in 2023. I had a hysterectomy at the beginning of 2024 and I’ve been cancer-free since then. If I hadn’t read this information, I wouldn’t have reported bleeding to the next doctor I saw. I might have died, and I probably would have had to undergo chemo and/or radiation, both of which I avoided.
Hey! If you are a transmasculine person on long term HRT (especially if you are without ovaries) and you experience this kind of bleeding after a long period of no menstruation, treat it seriously! My partner, who had his ovaries removed, began to bleed vaginally and it was stage one cancer that required his uterus be fully removed.
Wow, now there's a bot going around on Ao3 telling people that the "moderators" will delete works from "deprecated" fandoms and impose bans.
Fearmongering bullshit, but it's fearmongering bullshit that seems to be taking advantage of the recent spotlight series in order to trick authors into deleting their fics.
Just. Why.
What the hell does anyone get out of making these bots.
There's a theory already that this makes it easier for copyright infringers to steal fanfics because you can't prove the authorship of a deleted work.
This is pure evil
Spread the word
p.s. The comments look something like this:
p.p.s. There's no "new" policy that bans original works, either. Everything that was allowed, is still allowed. This is a "please read our TOS ffs" awareness campaign - not a surprise rugpull. Don't delete anything, please. It's an archive.
These people might be trying to take advantage of an announcement highlighting AO3's policy against non-fan works.
Just to clarify, "non-fan works" were always against policy, this is not new, and it does not mean original work.
The definition of "fan work" on AO3 is intentionally broad, and covers original fiction. "Non-fan works" are content that is non-creative in nature: fic recs, rp-partner searches, announcements, prompts, etc, basically using it like a blog.
AO3 is not deleting anything that falls within their user guidelines. Do not listen to the spam bots.
Yeah it sounds like they're trying to stir confusion, by tossing non-fanworks (something that's truly not allowed) with 'deprecated fan content' (that doesn't sound like a term ao3 would even use).
Before the computing era, ILM was the master of oil matte painting, making audiences believe that some of the sets in the original Star Wars and Indiana Jones trilogy were real when they weren’t. They were the work of geniuses like Chris Evans, Michael Pangrazio, Frank Ordaz, Harrison Ellenshaw and Ralph McQuarrie ! Forever thank you, to their handmade art and the work of their colleagues, that made us dream of impossible worlds and fantastic places across Earth and the Universe.
There are more background paintings on this article, featuring comments by the masters/artists themselves !
Some of the following pieces were made by other artists 2:
I love this because I’ll be watching a movie and think “how did they do that? Is that a building they built for this movie? Was it there beforehand? Is it cardboard or CGI? Is that actually some place on Earth that they’re filming?” And the answer to all of these now is “nope, that’s a painting”. I can’t believe some of the most iconic, familiar shots were paintings!
