Rogue glanced around the foyer at Xavier’s. At the risk of sounding cliché, it was quiet…too quiet. And in a school of unchecked mutant powers, that was never a good thing.
Earlier, she could have sworn she’d heard a motorcycle outside, but Logan wasn’t due back for a few days from his latest trip up North.
Padding into the rec room, she spotted Tabby, Jubilee, and Amara, their head bent together in whispered conversation. Their conversation came to a halt as they spotted her. Amara whispered something Rogue couldn’t hear. Jubilee shushed her loudly.
“Hey, Girl,” Tabby called loudly, waving a hand wildly, even though they were only across the empty room. “How’s it going?”
“Fine,” Rogue replied slowly, eyeing the trio. She didn’t trust the grin stretching over the blonde bombshell’s face.
“Anything new and exciting going on?”
Rogue narrowed her eyes. “No. Why?”
Tabby’s smile stretched impossibly wide as she hopped up. “Nothing. Have you had lunch yet? We were just going to the kitchen.”
Amara and Jubilee giggled.
Warning bells began ringing in the back of Rogue’s head. Something was definitely up.
“I’m not really hungry—”
“Great! Let’s go!” Tabby grabbed her by the shoulders and started steering her toward the hall.
“What in blue blazes is going on with y’all?” Rogue squawked.
“Nothing. Nothing,” Tabby said lightly, still shoving. “It’s just I know how you Southerners like your down-home cooking.”
Jubilee smothered a noise with her hand.
Tabby’s grin turned wicked. “And I heard we got some Cajun sausage today.”
“Cajun sausage—have y’all lost your mind?” Rogue huffed. Distantly, her mind registered the sound of voices coming from the kitchen. “Why on earth would I care about that?”
Tabby didn’t answer, just gave her one final shove through the swinging kitchen door. Rogue stumbled and cursed, trying to keep her feet under her. Regaining her balance, she glanced up. Half the Team was staring at her with looks ranging from worry to like they’d been waiting for a show.
And there, leaning against the door frame, was Gambit—in a pair of worn, low-rise jeans that probably were illegal in five states. His dark eyes glinted with open amusement.
He looked good. Real good. And Rogue immediately wanted to kick herself for noticing.
A wicked grin unfurled across his face. His eyes slid over her shamelessly from top to bottom and back up again, not caring one bit that the whole room was watching.
Her face burned.
“Chere,” he drawled. “Guess who just joined the X-Men.”
Rogue stared. A small, pathetic sound squeezed out of her throat before she could strangle it.
Five seconds. That was all it took for the Cajun to stroll back into her life and send her blood pressure through the roof.

kurt wagner & wanda maximoff are married and so besotted in love that their (adult!) daughter says ‘they’re like teenagers’. nightcrawler is an x-man, but the scarlet witch is a member of the avengers.
ok so AU time really just an expansion on that b/c there’s little to nothing else we know abt TJs parents in her universe… wanda meets kurt on a joint-team mission just after joining the avengers… she’s 23 and he’s 25 (so he’s been an x-man for 5 years while she’s still v new to hero-ing) their teams get split up mid-crisis and they end up stranded together and it’s like omg crisis! actually we’re a really good team. actually you’re kinda hot??? etc, etc. i remember i read some random comic panels of them meeting and wanda impressing kurt b/c she speaks a bit of german and they’re really on the same wavelength and idk these little panels too give the hint that they’d just hit it off straight away y’know
afterwards kurt finds any reason to send her gifts or call her or show up at avengers tower - very flamboyant and dramatic. but anyway wanda is in a better place than in avengers movie etc. (and pietro is alive. the maximoff siblings are romani jewish and both alive.) anyway so wanda is doing okay and learning to be a hero, and then when that gets stressful there’s a guy who’s doing the absolute most just to see her smile. its all very charming and they get together. also it’s the 1980s.
It's day one of Rogue and Gambit week! ( @roguegambitweek) Today's prompt is “I have a list,” (Age of Apocalypse - Astonishing X-Men issue 1). I wanted to recreate the panel the quote originated from in the stained glass style I've been playing around with.

So, I learnt to draw, back when I was a teenager, from a couple of places...and one of those places was Steven E. Gordon's X-men: Evolution character sheets. I would download them in the school library, print them out, put them in my special little plastic reference folder, then copy them over and over again.
Anyway, anyway, I kept seeing Rogue and Gambit on my dashboard, and I fully blame @nmzuka for that, and like a sleeper agent, the romy shipper in me emerged screaming and crying. Anyway, Rogue wearing Gambit's coat in the future vision of the cancelled Evolution future has haunted me. Because yes. It is very cute. But WHY isn't Gambit wearing it? Is he dead? Did he upgrade? Anyway, these two edgey kids (And yes. I do think Gambit is at MOST 19. He's just prematurely aged from all the shit this universe's Jean-Luc put him through- Look at his goatee and bowl cut combo- that reads over-confident 19 year old to me) should be rocking matching coats on missions.
Maybe not the couple people would have been expecting from me on Valentine's Day, but we recently ended up thinking of the ship and very quickly succumbed to it lol (of course coming up with another obscure ship with a character that isn't as prominent)
Ray/Berzerker doesn't get a lot of love in general in the comics or even much in Evolution (I'm surprised he's a character in it at all tbh), but we got thinking about him more and just felt like he could be a really gentle and patient guy and that might be just what Wanda needs if she was with anyone. She's got a lot of hurt and they'd take it slow, but he'd be willing to wait for her. Plus, we had the headcanon that he works as a line cook and is actually really good at cooking heh. Idk, he just gave me that vibe. He'd make sure she's eating well <3
Now if only Pietro would be chill about it once he finds out...
I wasn't sure which pic to keep with the first, but the roses def felt more appropriate for Valentine's Day.
