UMA1 (Arkitekthögskolan - Umeå Universitet) is inviting some international Architects to present their work and talk a little bit about “This and That”.
They all have a high quality and creative approach to Architecture, however their field of interest is not directly related to the built object.
Our aim with this lecture series is to broaden student’s understanding of Architecture and the alternative use of Architectonic tools.
First guest speaker: Koen Meersman (Belgium, 1972)

Almost 15 years ago we built this installation on the beach in La Barceloneta, Barcelona.
Still loving it.
All that is left is this tiny picture and lots of good memories.

VOCES DE LA BARCELONETA is the result of regular measurements of activity on and around Plaza de la Barceloneta - the main square of the popular quarter next to the sea in Barcelona.
The paper cones are the poetic translation of the measurements of people, cars and bikes, opening and closing doors and windows, animals. The proportion of the quantity of the cones and their interior prints - related to the four specific groups - symbolise the sound and the life of the square.
The installation presented at the beach of la Barceloneta, was conceived as a project for the Master Course Arquitectura, Arte y Espacio Efímero at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya; teachers: Arch. Pilar Cos (Spain) and Doc. Arch. Daniela Colifranceschi (Italy)
Barcelona, 1998
