Avengers: Infinity War [2018]
A collection of XV century European shields with different uses and rich heraldic symbols:
Early XV century. The notch at the upper left served to support the lance of a charging knight. The coat of arms is probably Austrian. On the banderoles is the defiant motto IO HARR · LAS UBER GAN (possibly, “Just wait. You’ll be beaten”). The shield comes a castle owned by the Teutonic Knights.
Circa 1450, Bohemian. Shields of this type were carried by crossbowmen and other foot soldiers in central Europe during the fifteenth century, often fitted with a prop to enable them to be freestanding. Painted in the center is a crown surmounted by three ostrich feathers, a badge of the kings of Bohemia. Below is the letter Y, possibly the monogram for Yhesus (Jesus).
Circa 1450, German. The female figure at the side holds a banderole inscribed in part with a motto in German: HAB MYCH ALS ICH BIN… (Take me as I am…). The decoration, with its brilliant colors on a silver-foil ground, is remarkably well preserved because it was hidden for centuries beneath layers of later paint.
