Why does Kakashi wear a mask?
It’s been a few years since we’ve seen Kakashi’s beautiful godlike face. Anyways I always wonder why does Kakashi wears a mask and why he doesn’t show his face in the series…there’s a few theories of why Kakashi wears a mask that I’ve found such as;
• “He’s insecure about he looks” - I think that he knows that he’s pretty good looking, but not to that point that he’s narcissistic about. Because of the attention that he’s gets from ladies (and gentlemen in the series; including filler too).
• “Because people keep mistaken him as the White Fang Of the Leaf (his father; Sakumo)” - since people mistake him for Sakumo even with the mask ( but they do have some similar facial features such as eyes, hair)
•"He was ashamed as the Hatake name was disgraced by his fathers actions to put the mission on hold to save his teammates" - this dose have a bit of evidence to back up this theory (Kakashi Gaiden) and I did believe this when I first read the manga and watch the anime; but I’m not so sure…Because in flashbacks when Sakumo was around; Kakashi was wearing the mask during his start to the ninja academy.
•"He use a former Anbu member and it’s require for them to cover there faces" - yea, but with the Anbu mask for mission; kakashi has been wearing his mask since he was a child.
• “A ninja must conceal themsleves” - okay that one I will agree with, as it’s always a design for traditional ninja to hide their faces and Kishimoto did design Kakashi with that idea in mind
Those are the few reasons why he wears a mask when I was looking. So I came up with a little idea of why he wears a mask based on a old story that I’ve heard. (I’ve haven’t seen anyone else mention this idea or did a post about it. So maybe this can be a new little “probability” of why he wears a mask") so bare with me.
So there was this general name Lán Líng Wáng, who his known as one of the four handsome men in Chinese History. Lán Líng was very skilled in battle and also a ferocious general (some articles say he was a prince/king and also known as the god of war, sound every OP); other then being a brilliant general, he also had a beautiful face. So when in battle he would hide his face behind a fearsome iron mask to vanquish his foes, because he believe that he’s too beautiful to intimidate the enemies. After one particularly dangerous battle the Emperor at the time asked Lán Líng how he was able to be so brave and always rush into the heart of the fight. Lán Líng answered that he considered the country’s problems as his own problems because he seemingly equated the country as his own, but this made the Emperor grew wary with Lán Líng that he would revolt and the Emperor executed him (that’s the short summary of his story).
What if the reasons why Kakashi wears a mask because he believes that he was not intimidating enough towards his enemies because of how his face looks? As a child he probably felt he wasn’t intimidating (probably got called cute by some villagers) and he wears the mask to be taken more seriously as a ninja and not compared to his father. As he escalate through the ranks, also becoming a captain of the anbu and hokage; the ninja world knows him for his skills in battle and his Sharingan eye, giving him the nickname the copycat ninja or Kakashi of the Sharingan. Im not saying this is the reason why he wears the mask (his face might be cold for all we know) but it’s fun to think about…So what to you guys think, feel free add your opinions and theories.
