I remember seeing this on Twitter a few days ago and it pissed me off, because the replies were full of people dismissing the validity of ADHD, which is also what I interpreted the OP was trying to say, specifically when they said they wished they could take stimulant medication to make dealing with their desk job easier.
Letās be clear on one thing: ADHD is a very real neurological developmental disorder. It is not some made-up universal symptom of living in late-stage capitalism (and believe me, I hate capitalism).
Is working a shit desk job like this (and just existing under capitalism at all) very hard with ADHD and other forms of neurodivergence? Absolutely! But you know what else is much harder with ADHD? Every other aspect of my life! A non-exhaustive list of ADHD symptoms that arenāt explicitly capitalismās fault that still cause significant issues in my life:
-Emotional dysregulation making me intensely fixate on a bad thought or possibility and spend hours in a panicked emotional spiral
-Rejection-sensitive dysphoria making me believe my friends hate me if they forget to text back once
-Attention wandering during conversations with friends and family that i desperately want to be focused on, and angering them or hurting their feelings when i ask them to repeat themselves (or, just pretending I was listening and nodding along as the conversation makes less and less sense to me without the missing info)
-Auditory processing issues making it difficult for me to understand movies or video without subtitles or constant rewinding
-Hyperfocusing on an interesting task and forgetting to drink water/feed myself/pee/move/do literally anything else for hours and hours
-Losing my train of thought mid-sentence so often when talking out loud that I avoid phone calls and conversations altogether
-Getting so fixated on a new hobby or interest that it consumes my life, only to drop it completely in a few weeks/months when the initial rush wears off
-Compulsively biting the inside of my mouth, picking at my skin/scalp, and twisting my hair as a form of stimulation until it causes physical problems
-Executive dysfunction making starting household tasks extremely difficult sometimes, so the dishes/laundry/cleaning/cooking goes undone
-Losing important items like my IDs/wallet/keys/phone multiple times per day, sometimes permanently
-Canāt store perishable items out of sight or I will forget they exist at all until theyāre a pile of sludge
-Forgetting people exist when I donāt talk to or see them all the time, so I have very very few long-term friendships
-Have very little sense of self and struggling to make long-term life plans
