“I think I can finally rest in peace now…”
one aspect of my ahjussi that i like is how ji an’s poverty isn’t romanticized. she isn’t a plucky girl with a perpetual smile on her face because if she just stays positive and works hard enough, she’ll one day succeed. she’s depressed and hungry and desperate and doesnt give herself any hope to cling on to because, in her experiences, hope gets you no where, money does. poverty is shown as what it is for those who live it: violent and virulent

“Rather than water being important in itself, water flows from top to bottom. I think that’s the tragic and sad element in this film. Water always flows from the rich to the poor, it never flows the other way.” –Bong Joon-ho
