A short note :-

For the people who are making Desi Dark Academia :-

I have come across various Desi Dark Academia posts on Tumblr. Many of the posts say reading Mahabharata and Ramayana is also a part of Desi Dark Academia!

Please don't mind but I think Hinduism is full of casteism and misogyny! Somewhere I think Religion should be separated from this! I, myself, belong to Hinduism and I don't believe in caste. Let's take an example. In, Ramayana, the episode where Sita is asked to prove her chastity and loyalty by Ram, through a trial by fire i.e. Agnee Pareeksha is particularly significant in contemplating the relevance of Ramayana. A woman who shows resilience and courage against an enemy, and upholds her duty in a crisis, is asked to prove her purity not once but twice. It is sad that a woman is glorified and treated respectfully only when she surrenders her dignity and mind.

I'm an Indian and belong to Hinduism religion. I'm not saying don't make Desi Dark Academia but at least don't take religion with that.

Finally finished...

The Catcher in The Rye by JD Salinger

Oh boi. This one took the longest to read compared to the previous ones. That is because I had a shit ton of academic work.

The first chapters, I couldn’t help but cringe at Holden and he really irritated me tbh. Then around chapter 17, I started to understand the reasons behind his attitude and kinda felt pity for him. In chapter 23, being a ‘catcher in the rye’ was finally explained but I couldn’t really see where Holden’s sudden protectiveness came from? Maybe it is just me, I could not really connect with him but I did see the pattern behind his behaviours and thoughts.

Around the last chapters I think teenage depression was handled well because the author created atmospheres and places that enable you to put yourself in Holden’s shoes; I did feel that feeling of childhood’s loss, start of uneasiness and the lack of emotional warmth. Those parts reminded myself when I started university.

I am not an expert on psychology but the book touched on some sensitive mental health issues and we only read what the character is experiencing in a sincere and simple tone, like speaking to a friend about an issue that you can’t even explain well. So I hope that does not act as a trigger but as a book that understands and listens (like Phoebe does).

Overall, I guess I got my hopes way too high for this book but ended up cringing at a teenager for the most part. The ‘better’ chapters also did not leave a mark on me but I will remember this book.

Hey y’all! Here are some cute notes that I’ve been taking for Italian!! I absolutely love learning the language so much and, since Italy is basically embedded into my heart, it doesn’t even feel like I’m studying it and instead it’s just this beautiful and heartfelt passion of mine that brings my heart so much joy. That being said, I’ve been learning it in different ways including online researches, turning Duolingo into my absolute best friend (I try to sneak in lots of practices whenever I’m not doing anything that requires focus like when I’m in bed, sitting outside in nature, chilling on the couch, and so on), using Quizlet fervently (it’s so good for on the go practices), books, music, movies and films, translating random phrases that comes to my head into these miniature colorful papers, and through talking with natives on HelloTalk and also with my two Italian friends!! I also changed the language on my phone into Italian and it’s so amazing because I get to learn new words and I’ve adjusted to it so quickly that it feels so natural now! It’s honestly such a fun and beautiful language to learn and, everyday that I get to wake up, I always feel so grateful that I get another chance to study it! After all, my Italian adventures are awaiting for me in the distant future. I hope y’all are having a lovely start of the week!! 🤍✨

Question: if I see someone pull off a Hijab, what should I do? I know there are reasons they are worn so I want to if i should stand in between them and who did this, should i protect them from view somehow, or something else? “my opinion is, definitely try cover them or give them something to cover themselves with. And perhaps shoo off the person, without putting oneself in danger! God forbid, if that happened to me, I would like someone to come and comfort me and give me something to cover my hair with and then help me report it to the cops “

yes !! everything said here is important af. if you see someone pull off a girl’s hijab immediately cover her hair and provide comfort. don’t talk to the perpetrator but try to get the woman out of there if you can. maybe if you have a scarf on you at the time give it to her so she can wear it until she’s alone and can replace her hijab. please please protect muslim girls because we already had it hard before donald trump became president and now its gonna be worse with people going around thinking their violence and cruelty is justified

for my other white ppl who might have a hard time, it’s my understanding that a hijab is like a major item of clothing, not an accessory like a hat or a scarf. so think abt it more like if someone just ripped someone’s shirt or skirt off. u don’t want to be left there exposed or have to walk home without it.

For men, yes please, we would prefer it if you avoided looking at our hair, and if we don’t have something to substitute as a hijab at that moment, anything you could lend us, a jacket, etc, would be very appreciated.

Also, since most girls avoid physical contact with men they’re not related to, please do not hug them, but rather shoo the offender away if you can, or at least escort the girl to a safe place. You can still offer words of encouragement and support. Furthermore, understand that the victim may not be very welcoming towards you because she’ll obviously be shaken, and won’t know where you are coming from. If that’s the case, please still give her something to cover herself (hijab is very important, think of it as someone ripping your shirt off) and stand some distance away until you are sure she’s in safe hands.
