I cannot take New52 Apollo seriously most of the time. Why the hell would you think it is a good idea to stomp on your opponent with a high possibly of dodging it, instead of like using your solar beam or something
Mary Sue Grifter mentioned 💔 why is he soloing them so easily...
You are supposed to be on his side bro >:(
I am revoking your Grifter fan license
It's N52 Grifter... no one likes N52 Grifter he's such a "oh look at me, I'm the badass chosen one" like shut UP you Mardi Gras-mask-wearing LOSER. He does not get to solo A and M that easy. Like that fire trick with A, sure, Cole is allowed to fight dirty... but that TK punch? Boo! Boooo! And Apollo should recover fast smh. Grifter's only winning because it's his story 🙄 and his writers are determined to push the "he's actually super op"-- WHICH I WANT PEOPLE TO KNOW-- but they do it at the cost of nerfing the Authority (or... StormWatch, or whatever they're trying to call themselves in the N52) and their strongest members. I hope N52 Grifter gets thrown into the sun for his crimes, and I hope his series gets thrown into the sun for its crimes. Dude, they just kept killing off Cole's lady friends for ZERO reason too. Like they just FRIDGED them, and they killed off Max Cash (this is where the "Max Cash is destined to die" plot really started) like twice. All so they could make Cole overcome his fear of death and war (which he NEVER had?? They made up those fears and instead of desensitizing him to them through Team 7 and a young age and such, they kill off every single character who befriends him, ESPECIALLY the women... and they do it in such a disrespectful way too. Like I felt no emotion when his friends died because I expected it. All I felt was rage and disappointment at the creative team for doing it like this).
WildStorm Grifter on the other hand... he didn't deserve that 💔 but look at him still standing after Mids threw those shurikens at him. What a king. His wack sideburns fuels Brett Booth's Lion!Grifter agenda.
Spare my kitty cat he did nothing wrong

The first 6 issues of Wildcats volume 2 have characters ask each other where Warblade is a couple of times, so in the 7th we get a recap on him.
Turns out after the Wildcats broke up he went to spend time with his gf and she was immediately fridged by Pike, so Warblade got better, hunted him down, and then killed him by spreading his liquid metal under Pike's skin and then tearing it out (kinda like Magneto did to Wolverine that one time).
I don't know if Pike ever shows up again. Be kinda weird that they had this Deathstroke-like bad guy and never got into his background or any solo stories if he doesn't.
What's crazy is that Fiona had literally ONE PANEL seen before she was fridged. She was never seem before this, and never seen after (although she did get a small mention in WildCats 2000 Annual... and that's about it). She was literally created for this scene and it's sickening. This was definitely the worst issue from the entire 1999 series. Warblade himself doesn't show up in the rest of the series or the following series.
They made Warblade so bland and flat in this issue too. My goat :( I can't believe they didn't bring him back on the team in the Imprint series until 2008. That team is the only family he has, and Joe Casey was really hammering in on how the WildC.A.T.s are a family. That's because of characters like Warblade and Voodoo and Maul, too, and we haven't gotten started on Majestic and Savant and Maxine.
Pike doesn't show up too much after this. He makes an appearance in Warblade: Razor's Edge (2004), and some WorldStorm series like Gen13 (2006) and WildCats (2008), but most are small supporting/cameo appearances and he suddenly becomes a good guy? Like. Okay.
His crazy beef with the WildCats is amazing. Wish we could see more of that.
WildC.A.T.s: Covert Action Teams #17, James Robinson (writer), Travis Charest (art), 1995
Funny enough, he says this in 1995 after fighting Reno, and isn't seen again until like 2000 when he kills Fiona (despite him saying "You know a dozen other guys named Pike who've made it their live's work to kill a WildC.A.T.?" Whatever, man. Like where have you BEEN bro? Hiding in early-era Backlash issues where you say extremely misogynistic stuff that you've never said before?). Then he shows up in 2006 to mess with Reno again. As if he's just targeting Warblade for no reason (which is lowkey cray because Pike had major beef with Grifter and Zealot before this and it was all forgotten for Warblade lollol. "Kill a WildC.A.T." but he hasn't fought any of the other C.A.T.s since 1993).
He appears once every five years, I guess.
In the DC mainstream, he showed up in the Savage Hawkman during 2012, then again in Rosenberg's WildC.A.T.s during 2022 (AND THEY COVERED HIS ARMS AND GAVE HIM A STUPID CAPE. UGH)
Next time we're going to see him is gonna be 2032 or something lmao. Just watch
Lately I've been feeling conficted about being a Midpollo fan for a number of reasons. First, is that I was introduced to their DC versions and not their Wildstorm ones, and gradually realizing through online fan activity the notable differences between them in Wildstorm vs DC has been giving me a sense of imposter syndrome. That my view of them has been skewed by their DC versions (Specifically Midinghter 2014 and Midnighter and Apollo).
Another thing is that I dislike how they're basically novelty at best these days. They come up whenever DC or fandom wants to talk about "gay heroes TM" but it seems like they're not really recognized beyond that. It's only a few ppl who seem to be really passionate about their characterization and trying to get ppl to care while my own views have probably been shaped and compromised by flanderized versions of the characters seems futile to me.
But even then I get kinda happy in some ways when I see them, even if I evntually get upset with their wasted potential and dismisal from the comic fan community. I feel like I need to stop with Midpollo stuff for a while and start with the Wildstorm/ Authority stuff when or if I regain interest in them.
A happy Cole Cash is a dead Cole Cash.
Anyways. If anybody who's already read Wildcats, Stormwatch, and the Authority wants to expand their WS knowledge, here are some off the dome suggestions:
Gen13 (& related materials, especially Gen13: Ordinary Heroes. Genuinely the best thing Wildstorm ever put out.)
DV8. Yes, really. Read Gen: Active also, it wraps up the story. Then Gods and Monsters.
Deathblow. Kind of weird at times but has a very solid story and knows how to wrap itself up.
Backlash and all follow-up series. Jodi and Taboo are two of my favorite characters and I adore them dearly.
There's a bunch of other stuff especially in the realm of, like, minis and short-lived series, but those are the main 4.
I second all of this.
There's tons of great content to explore when you're diving deeper into WildStorm, and following the branches of Team 7 into Backlash, Deathblow, Wetworks, Grifter, Gen13, and DV8 is one of the best ways to get exposed to various characters and teams with various themes.
It's nice since they're all sort-of connected through cameo appearances. One moment you're reading DV8, and the next you're treated to a nice interlude with Grifter and DV8. Or you're reading Backlash and lo and behold, here's the WildC.A.T.s! My favorite has to be Team 7 and Gen13 showing up in Deathblow (1993)
They're all part of what I consider to be "the wild side" of WildStorm.
Fun fact! Gen13 member, Sarah Rainmaker, made her first appearance in StormWatch (1993) #8! Gen13 are also commonly seen at the Authority's parties in the early 2000s. Hoping that's incentive for you to read...
If the history of these characters and "the wild side" in general interests you, give these a shot:
Team 7
Team 7: Objective Hell
Team 7: Dead Reckoning
Gen12
If you enjoy Backlash, his story picks up again in WildCore.
It is, how do I say, frustrating, to intentionally curate a recommendations list wherein 3/4s of the entries have female leads, only for someone to come along and add... Team 7, a Weapon X ripoff that's actually even more racist than the average Wolverine comic. Not that the comics I suggested aren't exactly as racist as the average Wildstorm comic, but come on.
Go read Deathblow: Byblows or Jet.
We can totally curate a list of WildStorm comics with female leads. Didn't recognize that was your intention. I only noticed you named several male-lead or team-focused stories including Backlash, which starts off the back of Diane, Backlash's then-girlfriend, being fridged to cause conflict and "story progression",
WildStorm Series with female leads;
Jenny Sparks: The Secret History of the Authority (which should be easy for fans of the Authority to get into if they haven't already, considering it's Jenny S. and it also has LGBTQ+ rep)
Wetworks (unfortunately a male-focused team, but the female characters; Red, Mother One, Pilgrim, et cetera, all have their own arcs within the series. I recommend the 2006 series over the 1994 one)
WildCore (which I recommend 10x more than I recommend Backlash. We have multiple female leads in this story, including Taboo, Zealot, and Jodi)
Cybernary (female-lead. I haven't had the chance to look at it myself yet, so don't take my word for it's quality. She's a really complex and interesting character)
and many more
Team 7 is entirely a male-focused team, and it's written by Chuck Dixon. A lot of it takes place in other countries (especially Asia), and Dixon takes every chance he gets to slip in bigoted commentary. For representation (or really as a good read) it is NOT recommended.
Misogyny and usurping female leads was not my intention. I didn't recognize that the point of your list was made with the intention of focusing on women. For that I am sorry.
Wait until people find out that Cole Cash's father's name is Win
And his brother's name is Max
Haha
There's nothing quite like making up your own ship name for a couple that's existed since 1992 because barely anyone knows who they are, and the people who do know haven't made a ship name that you know of yet
If there is a Griflot ship name, I stand corrected, but I'm far too attached to it to let it go now.

I'm stuck in a cycle, really.

hi everyone !!!!!! holy gem has been acquired today !!!!! ᕙ( •̀ ᗜ •́ )ᕗ so so hyped !!!! my favourite comic series
That's it. I'm getting a doctorate degree in comic books and my speciality is going to be this niche 90s ex-indie character with about 300-something total appearances, who was purchased by a mainstream publisher around the turn of the century and ever since this character was folded into the new publisher's main universe, he has only been done extremely dirty by writers who do not understand him.
But I do.
Please prepare for a two-hundred page dissertation on the subject of Cole Cash, AKA the Grifter.
Gen13 (1995) #5, by Tom McWeeney (writer, art)
It's funny scrolling through the Cole Cash and Grifter tags, looking at old content, because I don't think any of these people know who Zealot is or how Cole feels about her.

What do you mean I can only do ten images, Tumblr? Screw you! I didn't even get to talk about the TV show or WildC.A.T.s Trilogy or how Zealot feels about Cole!
THEY'RE HONORABLE, YOUR HONOR! THEY LOVE EACH OTHER BECAUSE OF THEIR HONOR
COLE CASH IS A YEARNER!! A YEARNER!! TAKE ME KICKING AND SCREAMING HE'S A YEARNER!! SHE'S HIS EVERYTHING!! HE WILL NEVER LOVE ANYONE THE SAME!! HE'S ALWAYS THINKING ABOUT HER!! A YEARNER!! LET ME FREE!!
My friend ( @hyenadrew I'm calling you out ) let me know that he would've gotten into WildC.A.T.s sooner if he knew that they were a found family. When I explicitly ranted about how they're a family more than the cash in Jacob Marlowe's bank account.
So yes, the WildC.A.T.s are a found family.
Jacob Marlowe is father to all

This is all a very barebones depiction of their relationships, but it's the general idea :)
No but why do Jake and Maj keep mentally adopting full grown adults
