Added the beatdown ability, which unleashes more punches based on how many melee abilities are in your moveset.
It's easy to punch when you can just grow more arms.
Polished up the sounds + fx for the Dreadhorse, a powerful minigun-wielding centaur creature.
It didn't have a wire skeleton, so this was my best solution for posing...
still crazy to me that people still completely misunderstand Doom (2016) eight years later.
like. no. the Doom Slayer is not “bored with the story” and “trying to ignore every monologue.”
the absolute first thing the Slayer does after retrieving the Praetor Suit is check base casualties. Hayden forces him into a full conversation by withholding that very information.
the Slayer isn’t mindlessly breaking shit because it’s “too complicated for him to understand,” he understands how to use basic tech quite easily, and even backs up a supercomputer. Hayden is even prepared to give full instructions on how to carefully (and temporarily) deactivate the production of Argent. he just hates Hayden and his dangerous exploitation of hell! the Slayer does not believe that the ends justify the means and he is right!
Hayden cannot be trusted, and the Slayer only follows his orders when he believes that it is necessary to do so.
this does not make him bored, if he only wanted to kill demons, he wouldn’t have checked how many innocent people died first, going so far as to travel to a radar dish just to do so.
The entire plot is literally “megacorps would literally enter into a corporate partnership with Hell itself to profit off of the souls of the dead and even when that inevitably leads to horrors beyond your comprehension downplay it, make excuses, and not care about the human suffering”. The anticapitalist message is pretty obvious. Made even more explicit by the fact that this is the Original Doomguy, who in this multiverse is the descendant of his universe’s BJ Blazkowicz, the Polish Jew that in their universe killed Hitler. Doomguy got the stationing that led to him fighting the forces of Hell as a punishment for refusing to open fire on civilians. The parallel between him and his ancestor is intentional and loud and clear, he opens Doom 2016 in the same exact situation as BJ in Wolfenstein 3D: captive and unarmed until he kills his most immediate captors and escapes. The Nazis, corporations, and Hell are all depicted as one ideological mass wearing multiple guises.
There is a moment in the beginning of the game, right before the title drop, where Hayden is talking to the Doomslayer while in an elevator, trying to justify what happened.
As Hayden is saying “We only did what was necessary!” the Doomslayer pointedly looks down at a bloodied corpse, before looking back up, and smashing the screen Hayden is using to try and talk to him through.
That was the Slayer’s way of saying “Yeah? What about him? Was his death ‘necessary?’ No. So shut the hell up and stop trying to justify your bullshit.”
The Slayer knows exactly what he’s doing the entire time, and much as I have my issues with the way the storytelling in Doom Eternal is done, they did one thing VERY correctly and that was a very pointed “Doomslayer does not hurt anyone but the demons, and you can see how careful he is about it” rule across the entire game. It showcases very clearly where the man’s priorities are.
Sure, you *can* ignore the story in Doom 2016, but the Slayer is a very complex character once you pay even the slightest bit of attention to his actions in the story. Even from the very beginning.
Also its only drivern further home in dark ages, because before time wore him down he was even GENTLER with innocents, hes actively kind and thoughtful and GENTLE in dark ages, which only adds that though time has roughened his edges, he cares for the innocent but the mykers? Who ordered him around and caused lost life? No mercy, no gentleness for them
do you like my bj blazkowicz mii
idk how you managed to make him look exactly like his 1992 mugshot but u did

so i was talking to my grandmother about old-school video games and she was all “y'know there was one game i used to play, and it had like a maze, and it was underground, and there was a guy in first person and he had a weapon” so knowing her penchant for puzzle games, i started guessing like myst, or legend of grimrock so we start hunting through these 90’s-era games featuring dungeon crawls. turns out. it was not a puzzle game. it was nothing close to a puzzle game. apparently, in the mid-90s, my grandmother would sit down and play fucking Wolfenstein 3D and listen to AC/DC for like hours on end.
Au contraire, the puzzle was “how to kill Nazis” and the answer was “use gun”
