home <3
My New Home = Washington DC?
I know I haven't posted in a long while, but I didn't want to write anything until I had some sort of significant 'life update.' So here we go~
Since I've been home (3 months), I've been on several interviews for jobs that are far from what I'm looking for. And I know what some of you are thinking. Well, you're the one who applied for those jobs. And you're absolutely right.
But here's the thing and I know I'm not the only person out there who has ever had the impulse to do this..in the very beginning of any job search process that I've had to undergo, I've always found myself applying to every job I'm even conceivably qualified for, without having devised some sort of life strategy or plan (e.g. asking myself whether I want to stay in Detroit? Whether I'd want a position with advancement opportunities? Or a job with full benefits?)--considerations to which I now know the answers--no, yes, YES!
Sooooo.... I've been applying to jobs in the Washington, DC area as that is where the graduate programs I'm interested in are located and it is also where I've always imagined I would be in one way or another. I've contemplated law school for years and have even gone through the entire application process, but in my heart of hearts, I now know that my life is meant to head in a different direction.
Last week, I was flown out to DC (lodging, meals, and airfare completely covered!) for my dream position with a company that is top-notch in philanthropic biomedical research--it was my second interview with them--and it was an amazing experience.
Me staring out the window of my hotel. :D
I had the chance to see the Lincoln Memorial and the Washington Monument...
...and to, also, connect with a life-long friend of mine who I haven't spoken to since before I left to live in Korea for the past year.
But as far as my second interview goes, I the chance to meet a group of people who are quite a cohesive team and honestly, the absolute best at what they do. And the facilities?! Out of this world. O_O <----my face throughout the entire tour.
I'm hoping to join this amazing group of people and hopefully within the next few days, I will receive an offer from them and will be moving out to the DC area!
So that's where I am, folks! Just hoping for the best.
Wish me luck! >_<... ^_^.
Long overdue, I know. But I've been getting my life together since coming back to the States. In the meantime, here are some photos from my time in Korea and while traveling.
More to come!
On the way to Moscow! :D
Just a few pics of a couple of my 4thie classes. I didn't have time to take as many photos as I would've liked, but I'm more than ecstatic that I managed to get these. ^_^.
As you can see, the first photo is what class is like before my co-teacher and I lay the smack down. The second is the orderly result of being verbally accosted. Haha.
The last photo is of my favorite 4thie class. They're the sweetest Korean kids I've ever met. No contest. And I'm truly going to miss them.
All right, back to packing and cleaning! >_<...^_^.
Worked a Miracle this Morning!
So I finally found someone who was serious about transfering my iphone 4 over to them and we agreed to meet this morning (the previous night) to make it happen. She was so sweet despite the fact that we arrived at the global Kt Olleh store at 7:30ish in the morning and discovered that they don't do contract transfers until 9am. T_T.
I was freaking out because I had a class to teach right at 9am, but I was DETERMINED to not have to pay nearly half a grand to settle my 2-year contract, so I called my super sweet and awesome 4th grade co-teacher and she covered for me.
Ugh, words can't describe how much I love this woman. She knows that I only ask for her to do things when I'm really in a pinch, which is RARE. And let me just say that coming into work 99.9% of the time, being super prepared, and doing my job well really pays off in critical moments like..well...this morning. lol
So I got to spend an hour and a half with an amazing fellow Native English Teacher and hear about her hagwon horror stories. Luckily, she found a new position and is loving her new boss. :D
So yeah, I made it happen and I also got a chance to take a few photos with my favorite 4th grade class. *Shhh* Don't tell anyone they're my favs. Hehe. I'm not usually one to pick favorites, but this particular class, although rowdy, was so affectionate and was soo sad to hear that I was leaving them.
Well, now all that's left to do is clean my apartment, meet up with friends, pack, hopefully get my Paris Pass in the mail before I leave, and well...LEAVE! :D
False Alarm~
I'm still looking for someone to takeover my Iphone 4 contract. ::sigh::
I was sooo excited, but the person who wants my phone can't get to the Kt Olleh store before 6pm when even the Global 24hr stores stop doing phone transfers.
Ugh! >_<
Holy crap! O_O
Boy, am I glad I booked my one-way flight to Paris months ago because a similar ticket costs ~$900 now.
Yes, folks, JUST for a one-way flight to France. O_O
My reaction had I waited:

Don't leave Korea - stay!
Awww~ A huge chunck of me wants to stay, but I really feel it's time to head home and get this show on the road. ^_^. Thanks though. I feel so love-DED. Hehe.
Are you planning on permanently living in Korea?
Nope, I'm heading home by the end of the month. :D
YESSSSSS! >_<
I found someone to take over my phone contract!!
Ugh! I was so worried about that and it was down to the wire too! >_< Oh wee!
Now I don't have to shell out $400 on a phone. But to be honest, the Iphone 4 was kinda worth the stress. lol.
kaylinaroundtheworld replied to your post: Stressed...
The RER is fine to get from CDG to central paris :) Alsooooo, why/when are you going to France? I’ll be there in September for 7 months!
Ah, okay. Good! I'll be getting there pretty late (after 10pm) so that's why I was a little skeptical about taking the RER/Metro. Although, I really won't have much luggage at all--a backpack and a carryon.
But I'm just going to visit. I've always wanted to go, saw an opportunity, and went for it! ^_^.
Really, I should be asking you why! How in the world can I stay in Paris for 7 months?! >_< Hehe. Will it be for work? Pleasure? Or both?
Stressed...
I have so much to do between now and the end of this week...
Lists make me feel better (so does crossing things off of one) so here we go:
1. Find someone to take over my Iphone 4 contract with Kt Olleh
I found a few people who were interested and have been corresponding with them back and forth--of course, not at the same time, but I'll get to that in a sec--and every time I found someone who was 'serious' about taking over my phone contract, he or she dropped out or eventually stopped responding to my emails. T_T. Now I have a few days left and I'm scrambling after already thinking this would be a non-issue. ::DeepBreath::
2. Finish out a complete FULL week of classes after thinking my last class was two weeks ago. T_T.
3. Clean my apartment so that it's spotless and my landlady won't go Ebenezer Scrooge on my Security Deposit, which by the way, my school is JUST now deducting from my pay since the Admin who handled my salary (and finer housing details) forgot to deduct it 11 months ago. Yay me! *SarcasmDetectorBlowsUp*
4. Meet with friends before I leave
Now this isn't really that big of an issue. Really, not at all. It's just inconvenient in the sense that I don't want to spend all day Friday cleaning up and finishing up minor details. I'd rather get all of that done after work this week, but eh. I'd rather see my awesome AWESOME friends before I leave. No contest.
5. Sell as many of the remaining items on my 'To Be Sold' list as possible:
Pink Yoga Mat - 5,000 won Silver Picnic Mat - 1,000 won Electric Blanket 20,000 won (I paid 60,000) Electric Kettle - 5,000 won Long Chocolate/Tan Rug - 10,000 won Two flower pots (yellow/beige) - 5,000 won for both Two .5lbs weights - 2,000 won for both Clothing Iron - 10,000 Froggie Trashcan - 2,000 won Box rollar cart (it folds and is light weight) - 5,000 won Medium Laundry Basket (Beige/Hard plastic) - 5,000 won Blow Dryer (black and folds) - 5,000 won Wall Clock (with batteries) - 3,000 won Two leather floor mats - 10,000 for both
By the way, if you're in Seoul and wanna snatch one or several of these items up, just let me know: [email protected]
6. Finally receive my Paris Pass in the mail. The company said it'd take 15 working days to be delivered using World Wide Shipping. We're on day 21 here...T_T. It better get here before the end of the week. I paid too much for me to miss having it by a day. >_<
7. Figure out the fastest and safest way to get from CDG airport to my hotel in Paris. I've read terrible reviews of shuttle companies so I'm thinking that's a no-no for me. None of the bus options put me close enough to the Metro station that my hotel is closest to. Actually, one does, but they charge an arm and a leg to only get me 75% of the way to my hotel. I don't want to take a taxi since I'll likely be charged an arm, a leg, and a lung. ::sigh:: I think I may have to just bite the bullet and take the RER/Metro. We shall see! :D
8. RELAX - I've gotta fit in some time to rest before my head goes *pop* from trying to make sure everything goes smoothly during my travels.
Man, oh man...it's gonna be a loooong week, y'all~
Omg~
I swear I just had a completely psychic moment.
I had this feeling that one of the teachers in the office was pregnant the second she walked into the office this morning, but I brushed it off since no one seemed the wiser and two seconds ago, she announced that she WAS in fact pregnant.
I nearly fell out. O_O.
I told her, "I knew it!" and she dared me to guess the gender--she doesnt know yet. It's too soon. And so I wrote on a piece of paper my email address and my guess and she said she'll let me know when she finds out.
My guess: A girl. ^_^.
One of the other teachers brought in these Tiger Balms from Shanghai for everyone. It's basically a very powerful Chinese version of vapor rub. It supposedly cures headaches, runny noses, stops itching, and soothes sore joints and muscles. Well, by the smell of it, I'm pretty sure this stuff could cure cancer.
Ugh~
Last week of school and I can't believe how confused I am. O_o
I keep asking everyone if there are regular classes and keep getting these vague answers.
One teacher told me, 'no, classes start tomorrow.' Another told me, 'Only first period is cancelled.'
I suppose I'll just end up doing what I normally do and go to every class no matter what they say. lol!
Oh the life of a Guest English Teacher in Korea. ::Le Sigh::
