The Best Treasure; Part 3.
Ateez Wooyoung x Female Reader
Genre: This ones a lil angsty😳
“Great! I’ll have Wooyoung show you around. There is one unused room on this ship that we will put a bed in for you to assure you have privacy. We start our journey again tomorrow so we’ll have dinner soon then rest up.” The man stops speaking for a moment, you assume he's finished talking, but then his eyes go wide and he says,
“Oh! And I’m the captain, Hongjoong. Pleasure to meet you.” He gives you a small head tilt and smile.
“Ahh… nice to meet you too, Captain Hongjoong. T-“
“Hongjoong, you can just call me Hongjoong,” Hongjoong corrects you.
“Oh, sorry! Right, I just want to say thank you for being so welcoming, Hongjoong. I’ll try my best to help.” You give him a small bow and smile.
“No problem! Now go ahead and show her around, Wooyoung. Be sure to be at the galley in time for dinner.”
“Sure thing Joongie!” Wooyoung says and excitedly clutches your hand and brings you back onto the deck, but not before you see Hongjoong roll his eyes at the nickname ‘Joongie.’ You look back at Wooyoung and smile at his excitement and Hongjoongs annoyance.
Wooyoung showed you all around the ship, even little rooms that you probably didn’t even need to know. Like why would he show you a half empty storage room? His excitement and energy was to blame, it may be a little more than you can handle. And before you know it, Wooyoung's name is being called for dinner. He looks at you with wide eyes and starts leading the way to the galley, in which he indeed showed you earlier.
When you get there the other men you haven’t been introduced to yet looked at you with surprise, some with their eyebrows raised in question. Right. Wooyoung forgot to introduce you to the others, you thought to yourself. You suddenly become shy and nervous under the many pairs of eyes and look down, raising an arm and rubbing the back of your neck out of nerves.
Wooyoung suddenly becomes aware of his fault and loudly exclaims “AHH!”
You look back up at him as he startled you and he follows with, “I forgot to introduce you to everyone!”
Wooyoung grabs your hand once again and brings you to an empty seat and sits down next to you. He then looks up at everyone and introduces you.
“This is Y/N, she will be helping us on our current mission as she knows around here very well.”
Some of the men made noises of acknowledgement, some a little unsure, but one in particular didn’t seem very happy.
The man who didn’t seem very happy scoffed.
“And Hongjoong’s okay with this? This doesn’t sound like a good idea.”
You briefly looked at this man, whom you could tell was the one cooking, a big spoon in his hand, standing in front of a burner with a pot atop of it. He had sharp eyes and short straight black hair. After looking at him for a bit you looked back down in your lap, once again bringing a hand up to your neck and rubbing it out of nerves. You hear Wooyoung slightly gasp and reply to him, “Seonghwa, she is trying to help and may be our only hope! Don’t be harsh.” Seonghwa. The man who doesn’t seem to like you is named Seonghwa.
“And how are we supposed to know for sure that she’s not here to sabotage us? We all know how Aurora is with pirates.”
“Hwa..” Wooyoung starts, but stops talking when he sees you get up.
“What are yo-“ he begins to ask, but you cut him off saying, “I’m so sorry. I’ll be where you said my room will be… I didn’t mean to cause any trouble.” Without letting him reply you bow and slightly jog off to the empty room in which Wooyoung showed you and said is where you will be staying. You close the door once you’re there and sit in a corner, thinking. Should I stay and help? What do I do? If I leave I won’t fulfill my dream, and will have nowhere to go….
Your thoughts are cut off by a knock on the door. You looked up and slowly walk to the door, cracking it open and looking to see who is outside. It is Wooyoung, and he is carrying something you can’t quite make out. Upon knowing it was just him, you open the door wider and allow him to come in. He is holding a bowl of some sort of soup, in which you can only assume is what was gonna be dinner. Wooyoung waves you to sit down with him as he places the bowl on the floor, along with a spoon.
“I brought you dinner. I’m not gonna let you starve while you're with us. And please ignore Seonghwa, he isn’t usually like that. I don’t know why he was… so vulgar all of a sudden.”
You nod at his explanation, and pick up the spoon and begin to slowly eat, too lost in your own world to think of a reply. Wooyoung sighs and pats your head.
“I’ll go grab your mattress, love. I’m sure you’re a little hesitant to go out at the moment and you need your rest anyways. Enjoy your meal.” And with that he leaves you to be lost in your own thoughts again.
Just a few minutes after you finish eating, Wooyoung and Hongjoong suddenly come in with your mattress, a blanket, and pillow.
“Sorry for not knocking but this is heavy. I’m also sorry that this is all we can give you but this is also the only extra bedding we had.” Hongjoong explains as he and Wooyoung place the mattress in a corner.
“Me or somebody else will grab you in the morning so you can start helping. I know it’s a quick start but we need to start and finish this before anyone else.” Hongjoong continues. You reply with a small “alright” and he leaves. Before Wooyoung leaves though, he tells you,
“Don’t worry Y/N, I’ll be here for you and I’m sure the others will. Sleep well.” And with that he closes the door.
You wake up the next day to pounding on your door. After a few more pounds the door opens to reveal that the culprit is Seonghwa. He looks at you with a grim look and says “get up and ready, then meet Hongjoong in the captain's quarters, where you first met him.” He then immediately leaves after telling you and slams the door. Yeesh. You get up and go through your bag that you packed before leaving the castle. You only brought two other pairs of day clothes so you changed into a fresh pair, brushed your hair, put your shoes back on and then headed out the door. You then make your way to Hongjoong. Once your there you softly knock and wait.
“Who is it?” Hongjoong yells.
You slowly open the door. You see a boy you have yet to know the name of hovering over Hongjoong at his desk. Hongjoong waves you over to the empty chair you sat in the first time you met. Hongjoong gets right to the point,
“so, I’m not sure if you’ve met yet, but this is Yunho, our navigator. He mark's maps and steers the ship for us. I think working with him at this point would be great since he was the one navigating and studying Aurora before we had found you.”
“Hi Y/n, right?” Yunho asks with a smile.
“Yes. Nice to meet you, Yunho.” He extends his arm out for you to shake his hand which you do so, shyly.
“Great. Can you take her to your navigation room and explain what you know so far there?” Hongjoong asks Yunho after your guys’ small greetings.
“Of course! Follow me Y/N.”
With that Yunho gathers the papers him and Hongjoong were looking at on his desk and leaves, you following a few steps behind.
You assume you get to his so-called navigation room when he opens the door to a small room full of maps and riddles which you can only assume lead to treasure. You remember Wooyoung briefly pointing at this door and saying it was some sort of study room or something, but he spoke and moved onto other rooms so fast that night you can’t recall exactly what he said.
You step inside hesitantly and Yunho leaves and comes back with a chair shortly after. He softly tells you that you can sit on that chair, then he begins to organize the papers he was carrying.
“So! This is all the research I’ve done so far on Auroras terrain. I was hoping we can start off with you confirming or denying what I have and possibly adding more information? I don’t know if you’ve worked with maps before but I can do my best to explain what area on the map is where in your village.” He begins.
“Oh, I see. I’ve only worked with maps once or twice but I’ll do my best to help. Could you explain what’s what?” You ask.
To cut to the chase You and Yunho spend a few hours going over what he had. You were able to confirm a lot of what he had, but he genuinely only had the basics and you told him such. He was thankful for your help and when he realized just how long it had been since you guys began he dismissed you for the day and told you to meet him there tomorrow morning, around the same time. Thanking him, you get up and leave the room.
You go out to the main deck as you need to cross it to get down to your room. As you get out, you notice many of the other men hanging around, including Wooyoung. When he sees you he immediately lights up and asks
“How did your first day go?! Was Yunho nice? Did you like it?! D-“
“It was great, Wooyoung. Thank you for asking.” You laugh out, making sure to cut him off before he rambles further. You then hear a scoff to your left. You look over and see that it was Seonghwa. “Really? So where are we going tomorrow?” He asks in a harsh tone.
“Well, he only told me what he has so far t-“
“What?! So we don’t have any new information yet and you spent god knows how many hours down there?!” He yells out.
“I-I needed to know what he-“ before you can finish he cuts you off, “you were useless like I thought! You should’ve never joined.”
You look at him with wide eyes, those of disbelief. You really did need to know what Yunho had first so you can give actual useful information, but Seonghwa did not let you get those words out. Tears start to form in your eyes, and you run away from them, heading to your room.
“Really, Hwa?! It’s her first day!” Wooyoung yells at Seonghwa. Hearing the ruckus, Yunho comes over to them and asks what happened. “She’s useless, Yunho! I told you guys! She didn’t even tell you anything in the hours you two were together?” Seonghwa exclaims to Yunho, still angered. “Whoa whoa- why are you assuming? I mean yes she didn’t tell me anything new, but I needed to show her what I had first, which takes a while to go over. I had my doubts too but she’s really nice, Seonghwa. You should wait until we know her better before you assume.” Yunho tells Seonghwa in a soft tone, trying not to escalate his anger.
“Yeah whatever. I still don’t trust her, and so shouldn’t you guys.” Seonghwa says before he wanders off himself. Wooyoung sighs.
“Unbelievable. She hasn’t done anything to him and he’s acting like she stabbed everyone.” Wooyoung says to Yunho.
“I mean he has a reason not to trust her yet, we all don’t know her well, but what I know from today is that she is genuinely interested in helping and learning about everything I know.” Yunho replies.
“You’re right, but it doesn’t really justify his behavior.”
“Yeah. Just give him some time, Wooyoung. I’m sure he’ll warm up.”
“Yeah.” Wooyoung shortly replies and then walks away, sulking. He doesn’t know why he cares so much about you, he and the rest of the crew have truly only known you for a day or two, but he just knows you’re different, genuine.
