AITA for punching a kid?
I (25? M) was visiting the childhood home of my mentor, when I came across a young boy (8 M) who had wandered into foxbear territory. He was distracted by the foxbear cub, and had already provoked the mother foxbear into scratching him on the shoulder. As foxbears are rather dangerous, I managed to slay the beast to prevent further harm.
I dislike killing animals, I think it’s wasteful and cruel. So I punched the kid, warning him not to go into the forest like that again because it’s very dangerous during the foxbear nesting season since the mother foxbears will do anything to protect their young.
The boy was shaken up at first, but then I realized he was my mentor’s son, of all people. I should have noticed it sooner, especially since he was doing something as stupid as looking at foxbears during nesting season. We had a nice conversation, and I told him all sorts of things about his dad which he was apparently unaware of. Could I have handled it better? Probably. But he likely didn’t learn his lesson since the foxbear didn’t maul him to death, so what’s one punch as a warning?
Edit 1: Yes, I casually carry a katana on my person.
Edit 2: You would think a child who grew up in an area with frequent foxbear invasions would know what areas to avoid during nesting times. Apparently not.
Edit 3: No, Ging, I will not “punch him again”
