I think Amc genuinely cares about audience engagement because it's clearly a business, but their racism seems to outweigh their interest in the viewers.
If we use the example of who gets more video views, we can see Autumn Brown's interviews, the person right behind Sam in views is Assad, but they don't even bother promoting Assad to attract fans. So I think this is just an excuse for Amc to treat the Poc casts as if they're invisible, and Amc doesn't even need to defend themselves because many fans have already done that for them.
yes, exactly! we had a pretty interesting discussion about this here. i'd say, i rather see it as amc and the audience "working together" on creating this environment as a self-sufficient system.
basically, yes, amc is racist and is purposefully promoting sam more than anyone else from the cast, both because white leading actors are better for business and because a lot of people behind the network are conservative. as the result, amc doesn't try nearly enough for actors of color, even those who are almost as popular as sam (like assad) and when they try, it has "here, damn" vibe or feels extremely performative.
but it also wouldn't work if the audience wasn't very racist as well. it wouldn't work if certain lestat stans weren't trying to shut down every conversation about problematic nature of amc's marketing & questionable decisions because all they care about is the white lead (and they're angry when people don't care about him, because it makes them feel insecure, like they're doing something wrong). it wouldn't work if the difference in numbers wasn't so glaringly obvious. amc is racist, and it has plenty of soldiers working for free on their side.
this is the system that exists based on its own feedback: amc informs the audience and the audience informs the network, and it works so efficiently because tvc fandom was deeply racist and continues to be so.

hello not sorry to make another post about the antiblack harassment in the fandom. im sick of putting up with it and while I appreciate every person who supports me in the midst of a neverending harassment camp, i wish that more people (particularly nonblack folk) would try to make efforts to actively combat racism in the fandom.
i wrote a personally reflective thread on it and I would like yall to read it and maybe reblog it especially if you've been witness to the harassment of myself and other black fans and creatives in the fandom.
i get that seeing posts like this repeatedly is probably draining and annoying but if you have ever experienced even a lick of the vile behavior in this fandom, i would hope you can understand that this is not something that is easy to bear over multiple years.
