âWell ugly is a matter of opinion. Still, not a half bad plan.â Mild amuse felt over the retort he commented no further on it, or how labelling people as ugly was beyond rude but it wasnât like he had never used the word or anything relating to it when commenting on a personâs aesthetic.
He hadnât even been sure if they had been referring to a specific guard or thrown the term as a general quip, but as the other started describing in oddly vivid detail of one they knew andâ was he being played right now? âIâm.. You sure they even exist? Canât say I have ran into this guard.â There was a momentâs pause as suspicion was smoothed out and he actually processed information in regards to matter, mouth curving into a wry smile, âEither way think Iâll pass.âÂ
âUgly is as ugly does.â It was one of the many aphorisms Kris should have rejected at this point, but the idea was a comfort. Being able to see vile people for what they were instead of finding out the hard way would be a nice skill to have. âBut I guess morals arenât the same for everybody either?â An even newer, even more terrifying idea. Absolutes were easy and tey was very happy to let him change the subject to what they were actually talking about.
âAs sure as I am about you. We havenât spoken--I tend to keep my head down--but Iâve seen him.â Tey chewed on tir finger. Now wasnât the time to start doubting tir lucidity, but thankfully the moment passed. âYeah, some things arenât worth the work.â This probably meant boba was hippie food and not drugs and Kris felt an absurd rush of pride for figuring that out.
Kris saw the book and leaned over, grinning like a child. âIs that And Then There Were None? That is easily my favorite book with a racial slur in the title.â
