During his career in aeronautics, Krishna Ajvalia has filled an assortment of positions at some of the nation's most popular airports and aviation facilities. Krishna Ajvalia earned a noise abatement internship at Teterboro Airport in New Jersey. Krishna Ajvalia worked closely with qualified personnel to learn about Teterboro's noise monitoring system, and compiled various data before analyzing it. Other duties performed by Krishna Ajvalia included helping to mandate new procedures and aircraft routes. Krishna Ajvalia was honored to serve two dispatch internships with Teterboro Airport between 1999 and 2000. Studying under the dispatch team, Krishna Ajvalia managed flight movements with the goal of completion with maximum safety. Following the conclusion of his first dispatch internship in September 1999, Krishna Ajvalia was contracted by Jet Center, which is located in Daytona Beach. Working as a fuel truck operator, Krishna Ajvalia was in charge of refueling ERAU aircraft such as the C172, PA28, PA44, and M20J. While gaining practical experience in his chosen field, Krishna Ajvalia attended classes at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. Beyond the immense amount of tests, homework, and studies required of his aeronautical science major, Krishna Ajvalia added studies in dispatch and air traffic control to his course load and won a variety of speech and essay competition awards. In spring 2001, Krishna Ajvalia graduated from Embry-Riddle with a Bachelor of Science, which led to his employment at Air Fleet Training Systems in Teterboro in February 2002. As an Air Fleet employee, Krishna Ajvalia trained students in teamwork skills in the facility's training area. Krishna Ajvalia was also responsible for the conservation of Part 141 and Part 61 student records. Augmenting Krishna Ajvalia's aeronautical science skill set are a deep familiarity with computer hardware and software, Class 1 Medical and Aircraft Dispatcher certificates, and an FCC Radio Operator's license.

Beach Volleyball

While working toward her BA in aeronautical science at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Krishna Ajvalia spent her summer vacations working for industry employers at Teterboro Airport in New Jersey. When not studying for her degree, Krishna Ajvalia visited Daytona’s famous beach and kept in shape by playing beach volleyball. Volleyball was invented in 1895. Beach volleyball came a few years later, on the beaches of either Waikiki in Hawaii or Santa Monica, California. The first two-player match was held in Santa Monica in 1930. The first official two-player tournament was held in 1947, for bragging rights only; the winners of the following year’s tournament split a crate of Pepsi-Cola. The two-player game’s popularity grew throughout the United States and worldwide, and became part of the California culture in the 50s and 60s. The first tournament with a commercial sponsor took place in 1974 in San Diego for a first prize of $1,500. The prize grew to $5,000 by 1976, and a sponsored tour was organized in 1980 with seven events and a total of $52,000 in prize money. The first international beach volleyball tournament sanctioned by the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) was held on Ipanema Beach in Brazil in 1987, with $22,000 in prize money. Interest in the sport grew as larger and larger crowds watched players competing for shares of a growing prize pool. In 1994, the sport was included on the Olympic roster, and the first Olympic beach volleyball matches were held at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia. On the professional circuit in 2013, the top-ranked women’s team won $108,500; the men won $87,775. Unlike some sports that require a great deal of organization, specialized equipment, or money, beach volleyball remains enormously popular among the throngs of amateurs who play it only occasionally. This is probably because in addition to being enjoyable and a great fitness regimen, beach volleyball is also very accessible, requiring only a bathing suit, a ball, and a net to play.

Hiking in Palisades Interstate Park

After earning her BA in aeronautical science from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Florida, Krishna Ajvalia joined Air Fleet Training Systems in Teterboro, New Jersey, where she worked with students pursuing their pilot license. When she is not at work, Krishna Ajvalia enjoys several recreational pursuits, including camping and hiking. Although Teterboro is less than 15 miles from New York City’s Times Square, it is also just 7 miles from Palisades Interstate Park, the site of many popular hiking trails. Created in 1900 to stop the quarrying of the Palisades on the Hudson River’s west bank, the park stretches about 12 miles along the west bank of the Hudson River. The park contains 11 hiking trails with a total length of approximately 30 miles along the Hudson River, with magnificent views of the river and New York City. The longest of the four easy trails is about 3.5 miles, and none of the four should take more than two hours to complete. These trails are ideal for young children and school groups. The five moderate trails range in length from 2 to 8 miles and include some moderately challenging slopes. These are better suited for teenagers and adults in reasonably good shape with some hiking experience. The park’s two challenging trails are much more rugged and include some significant slopes and should be attempted only by those who are confident in their hiking skills.

After earning a bachelor's degree in aeronautical science from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Krishna Ajvalia has spent more than a decade working in the aviation industry. Formerly an airline captain with Gulfstream International Airlines, Krishna Ajvalia currently works as an airline captain with Silver Airways. Here, he outlines a few basic preparations you should make before setting out on a hiking trip. When planning a hiking or backpacking trip, first locate up-to-date maps and guides for the trails you are planning to cover. Look online to see whether the area you would like to visit has a website, as some trails, parks, and other locations offer information on their websites about trail conditions, weather, and any special considerations each day. If you are planning a multiple-day trip, make sure you have all the necessary equipment, clothing, and food for your journey. Plan to hike with at least one friend or family member, and tell someone where you are going and when you plan to be back. This way, if something happens on the trail, that person will know where and when to begin looking for you. Bring along a cell phone to check in and for emergencies. Although it is possible you will not have service on the trail, you may find that some locations will have reception. Wear suitable clothing for the season, with layers you can add or remove depending on how hot or cold it is. If you are planning to hike across an increase or decrease in elevation, remember that temperatures can vary dramatically as you head up a mountain. Be sure to bring along sunscreen, comfortable hiking shoes, water, and a whistle for emergencies, as well as snacks if you are planning a day hike or meals if your trip will be longer.
