I think It was perfect that we didn't have an Asgore fight. We know how Asgore is, and he would NOT be beating up kids just to keep his fantasy or investigate more. He sure was selfish in deltarune getting obsessed with "that day", but he wouldn't do such a thing to his own kid and their friends.

"Oh, but Asgore killed kids in undertale!"

Yup, in undertale. Not in deltarune. And It was to bring his kind their freedom to go back to the surface, crying and feeling guilt for every soul that he obtained. He is such a complex character and i'm glad Toby didn't just say "Yeah, he would beat up some kids in a dark world" because that would've been so out of character for him.
