This shot was taken by a close friend of the actress, the famous American photographer George Barris.

The picture was taken on July 13, 1962, on Santa Monica Beach in California. This session went down in history as "The Last Shoot". Just three weeks after this shooting, Marilyn Monroe tragically passed away, which is why Barris refused to publish these photos for many years.

While walking along the coast, Marilyn was fooling around, collecting seaweed washed up on the shore and playfully throwing them over her shoulders instead of a scarf. The photographer managed to catch this moment of her sincere laughter.
