More of you need to learn about these ☝️
okay i dont HATE gaanaru or anything,, but i just wanna say, but people that try to claim that naruto was gaaras first true friend, the first person there for him, the first person to hurt him, ARE WRONG!!!
ROCK LEE WAS!!! ROCK LEE WAS THE FIRST FIRST TO HURT GAARA, TO MAKE HIM BLEED, TO MAKE HIM FEEL SOMETHING!!! THE ONE THING GAARA CRAVED TO DO SO BADLY!!!
and just agh– they fought in the chunin exams, yesyes, but then gaara went out of HIS way to help rock lee. and like yes ik, naruto was also there on that mission, and that missions purpose was to get sasuke back– but none of that even matters to me rn cause that is the first time gaara is ever remotely kind to another person. and that means everything to me.
the first person he decided to make amends with was the boy who's life he almost took just a few months prior. I fucking love them.
and even still, gaara was so embarrassed about the whole trying to kill him thing, that he never even officially apologized for it. BUT– its cannon in one of the naruto video games (not sure which one) that gaara does feel deeply sorry for what he did to rock lee, and wants to apologize, and thinks about it a lot.
AND ROCK LEE DOESNT EVEN CARE. HES SO SWEET, AND HE LIKES GAARA SO MUCH THAT HE DOESNT EVEN CARED HE TRIED TO KILL HIM A FEW TIMES..
(also just back to the gaanaru thing, I also just like, totally see them as brothers. like they needed each other growing up, they understand each other so much, like siblings. idk just had to throw that out there)
this fanfic shit is so easy
Hm. Hm. Haven’t ever really seen anything done with Rock Lee “Leaf Hurricane” being the first person to ever land a hit on Gaara “living sandstorm” of the desert. Something something colliding forces of nature and incredible destructive power that neutralize one another on contact.
Im always team “Lee should match Gaara’s freak actually” wrt him having a bit of an edge to him that he tries very very hard to smother because he thinks it’s not very youthful and goes against the teachings of his kind and wise sensei (he is wrong, Guy is a shinobi and has done and enjoyed doing horrible things before, he’s just made the conscious decision to stay kind in spite of that and doesn’t realize his student is struggling with that)
Something a little bit more in-line with what we see of Lee when he’s drunk, rude and bold and openly mocking his opponents, delighting in not just the challenge but the violence itself, pushing and pushing just to see how far he can go before either he or the other one breaks—
And I think playing more with that in a gaalee scenario would be a lot of fun. Usually they’re depicted as kind of a Roger and Jessica Rabbit “he makes me laugh” ass relationship where Gaara is seen as powerful and elegant and traditionally attractive and holding higher social status and Lee is his weird ass boyfriend in green spandex and orange leg warmers who people kind of side-eye, but I would fucking love to see Lee grow into (and even surpass) Guy’s reputation as that guy you absolutely do not fuck with, in which case Lee and Gaara together stops being a personality match and starts being the most shit-your-pants terrifying power couple you’ve ever seen.
Two men who fight like personified forces of nature, and one of them is a demon vessel and the other is on the level of a demon vessel, and Lee stopped wearing sleeves when he realized how weak Gaara is to his arms which means everyone has seen the surgery scars and everyone knows the story (or some version of the story.) Most people dont survive even coming into contact with Gaara’s sand but Rock Lee has twisting sand-burn scars covering the entire arm he has wrapped around Gaara’s waist and people see how casually proprietary and affectionate he is with the young Kazekage, they see him laugh off Gaara’s basilisk glare and pull him in close to kiss the kanji on his forehead and grin with wild delight at every opportunity to spar with Sand Spirit’s vessel and they think “Hurricane indeed. Who else could withstand Gaara?”

Team Gai babies! Gai single dad is real to me. Also Lee is fine, he's probably just mad he isn't the one on Gai's shoulders lmao.
i dont want to work :(
crazy how every time a female character gets cliche misogynistic writing we have to explain to people again that fictional characters are not real and do not choose things for themselves.
it’s really this at the end of the day tbh
I can recall the exact moment Naruto started falling off for me and it was literally the beginning of Shippuden. I will never forget how dumb that fight between team Guy and their clones was. Kishi could've gone in a million directions with that fight but he really made Lee say "hey guys, what if we just get good?" and it was framed like he just made an astounding revelation. You're telling me Lee had to say that for everyone to get their shit together and solve their multi-episode dilemma??? You're telling me that didn't cross anyone else's mind or that Neji couldn't have come up with a better plan???
@sagemoderocklee LITERALLY!! The way Temari was so purposefully excluded from participating in Gaara's rescue when she had one of the most valid reasons to (like literally being his older sister) was such a slap to the face. You could tell Kishi just wanted to get her out of the way bc why tf would she agree to guard some random ass tower knowing her little brother was in mortal danger. I get their relationship started off rocky (to put it lightly) but she had the most valid reason to be putting her all into getting him back. Instead we get Naruto acting like Gaara is his own flesh and blood while Temari is only shown to be mildly anxious about his kidnapping. The thing is, this wouldn’t even bother me so much either if we actually got to see Naruto and Gaara’s friendship build up before an event like that took place, but we didn’t. We’re supposed to believe them both being Jinchuriki is enough to warrant his reaction.
And the fact that Lee, who cries over everything, didn’t react at all to Gaara dying? Criminal. They didn’t get off to a good start, but at least we get to see some hints of camaraderie between them during the Kimimaro fight. You’re telling me Lee, sentimental and soft-hearted Lee, wouldn’t shed a single tear over the death of a human being he knew personally? This mf would cry if he saw a dead squirrel on the side of the road.
not only is she his sister she is the ELDEST of the three of them. like the responsibility on her shoulders as the ELDEST sibling??? and it's shown in classic that she was also someone Gaara somewhat listened to in the forest of death. he actually seemed to respect her MORE than kankurou prior to his change of her so it's absurd kishimoto sidelined her. it rlly shoulda been an omen of what was to come with her being made a house wife who just gives up everything and moves out of her village to be with Shikamaru (who SHOULD HAVE BEEN a househusband instead). plus when you look at the data on Temari compared to her brothers she has only ONE elemental affinity while her brothers both have a ton by comparison. like kishimoto absolutely could not be bothered to give a fuck about any woman in this series even the ones he clearly did like
he could have also easily thrown in asides about gaara and naruto writing to each other to make it more believable that naruto was so distraught. naruto's like hyper-relating to other ppl is such a problem with the series. like yes yall are both hosts for tailed beasts and yall both experienced discrimination for it but like you still not the same ppl nor did you experience the exact same shit. YOU didnt have your daddy try to assassinate you at least six times. i just think kishimoto struggles with balancing other characters and still keeping the series about naruto. like it would have been so easy to let kankurou and temari lead this arc... like the only character in all of shippuden who gets to really stand out is shikamaru... and well we know he's kishimoto's fave. so it's like you CAN do it. you just dont want to and everything still ultimately ends up being used to prop up naruto and make him the specialist boy in some way. he doesn't always need to be the heart of a specific arc just cause he's the MC.
gaara's death didnt even feel like it was about gaara dying so much as it was about naruto's hypothetical death.
and literally rock lee would have been bawling and gai would have needed to remind him to keep it together because crying would only jeopardize the mission. between the clone fight and that obnoxious ass team huddle that gai forces on them... it's so like 'ha ha here's our comedic relief doofus and his silly son. and oh yeah i guess there's a genius and a girl... huh well we don't need to take them seriously"
from a writing perspective it's like obviously an imbalanced arc emotionally. it's not really character or relationship driven and the emotional core is shoddy at best because naruto acts as the sole figure of remorse. gaara hasn't been seen since the rescue gaara arc, his relationship with naruto is ephemeral at best, and his own family which should act as the focal point for the audiences empathy for gaara are barely present. then from a tactical perspective it's just a hot mess cause there's no way team gai--the FASTEST TEAM--would not have been a massive boon in going to rescue Gaara. them joining up with Team Kakashi should have been a tactical advantage AND another boost to the emotional core with the loss of gaara. two people related to gaara grieving and freaking out, plus another person not bound to gaara by family or village OR shared experience and someone gaara had hurt in the past... like it's genuinely wild and ill never not be mad about that arc and how it did the sand sibs and team gai so dirty. gai not taking it seriously that the kage of another village has been abducted, lee not taking seriously someone he knows has been abducted... like they rlly were just goofy guys to kishimoto after classic
We all talk about Naruto single handedly beating hope and humanity back into that anemic kid, which to be fair. he did. BUT there's a 0% chance that lesson woulda stuck if his siblings didn't chase after him. They love him so much. Willing to square up with the insane kid that just beat GAARA'S ASS just to get him home safe. The fact that, despite EVERYTHING, he was still more brother then weapon/monster to them. I love the sand siblings with my whole heart FIVE EVER
