☆ be nice on here, i dont care if im crazy,, i already know, you dont need to tell me again :/ (be nice to the ppl who interact with me too !!!)
You don’t have to read my first post to read this one!! This is just a little thing about Abbacchio and his favorite movie, Sling Blade. How it relates to him, why I think he’d like it, what I think the other members of the gang's opinion on it would be, and a whole lot of other stuff about Abbacchio :3
Cars are mentioned a lot in this movie, which is just something Abbacchio likes :)
This specific car from the movie really reminded me of Abbacchio. I think he’d be fond of the color and sleek style of it.
One of the main characters in the movie Frank, tells the main character of the movie Karl, that he likes the way he talks because he ‘sounds like a race car.’
I feel like this is something someone in Passione would say to Abba-- maybe Nara or Bruno.
The main character in Sling Blade sounds similar to a car because of the way he hums in between a lot of his words. I don’t think Abbacchio would do this, but I do think he’d grumble a lot, which would sound like a car starting, lol.
The main character in this movie loves mustard…. I want Abbacchio to love mustard…
The main character in Sling Blade bottles up his emotions a lot and isnt fully sure how to express them(This is mainly due to is mental issues but I also think Abbacchio has plenty of those. Probably not all the same ones, but they are both definitely autistic, just on different parts of the septrum).
(but they do both suffer from surviours guilt trauma, Abba with his police partner and Karl with his premature bother).
But this reminds me of Abbacchio a lot. Also, the first time we really see the main character in Sling Blade open up is during a particularly emotional moment in the movie. I feel like you could say the same about Abbacchio in the scene where he decides to stay on Bruno's team, another very emotional scene.
This movie would've come out when Abbacchio was 16 (I'm fairly certain), and I'm not entirely sure if he would have seen it on his own willingly, or perhaps a family member showed it to him. I feel like a family member would've cause I just don’t really see a teen Abba going to see this movie.
Unless he saw it for the first time a bit older, which I kinda like the idea of more. Maybe, perhaps, before losing his police partner.
The movie does really remind me of him, though, and I can understand why it's his favorite movie.
Sling Blade has heavy themes of morality, justice, and human decency,, all very important things to Abbacchio (all of Passione really).
Just like Karl, Abbacchio also believes in protecting people outside the law. They have a similar moral system and would do anything to keep the ones they love safe.
I think he'd love to show the other members of Team Bucciarati this movie and watch them all cry.
Mista would definitely be annoying about it the whole time, trying to predict the ending and making comments on all the characters. I don’t think he’d cry either.
Fugo, Bruno, and Gio would see the deeper meaning in the movie, and Bruno would probably cry(but try to hide it from everyone); I'm not sure if Fugo or Gio would tho. I think Gio would probably be a big fan of the movie.
I dont think Trish would fully understand the movie, I don't think she'd be a fan of the pacing either (neither would Fugo or Nara)--(All the cuts would piss Fugo off, and they would confuse Nara), but she might cry.
Nara would probably have a mix of Mista's and Trish's reactions; he also can't ever stay still, so that's a problem (he also isn't a fan of movies??) If he did end up paying attention to the plot, he might tear up a little.
This is my little (big) summary of the movie Sling Blade, Leone Abbacchio’s favorite movie :3 Just a little warning for small mentions of transphobia, ableism, domestic abuse, murder, rape, and some slurs.. I think that's it… Okay, so this movie has a lot of cuts. It likes to jump scene to scene pretty quickly, so if you don’t understand what I’m saying, I’m so so sorry,,,
The movie takes place in the mid 1990s in rural Arkansas(So they talk like this 🤠/ref). It starts with a side character(I’m not sure if a name was ever given, but that info isn't important anyway), who immediately starts talking about how he loves cars to the main guy (Karl Childers)
We learn that Karl is in a mental hospital, however it’s his last day there, meaning he will be free after being there for around 30 years, making him 41. Before he’s let out, he’s interviewed by a young lady who wants to know his story for the newspaper.
Karl tells the story of how he killed his elementary school bully (Jesse Dixon) with a sling blade after he caught him attempting to rape his mom at around 13 years old(Idk where else to put this, but Jesse bullies Karl because he has autism, that’s kinda just an important thing to know about him) After his mom sees Jesse's dead body, she starts freaking out on her son,, Karl then thinks that his mom *wanted* to have sex with Jesse, and that’s why shes mad at him, so he kills her out of rage too.
Karl is released into the real world again….. he doesn't seem like a danger to anyone tho..
He is very obviously suffering from development issues :( He's also very fidgety and not good at making eye contact.. nor does he like people looking at him. I also believe he prefers darker rooms? Just because when he was being interviewed by the journalist, the room was pitch black except for a lamp. He also seems more fidgety under bright light (or I could be making that up–)
Was put in the psychiatric facility because he was deemed ‘not right in the head.’
Karl meets a young boy (Frank Wheatley,, he’s 12,, remember him) while walking around town (Karl's got no place to stay..), and helps him take his laundry home from the laundry mat. They talk a little on the way there.
Karl tells Frank he had killed people(He tends to overshare a lot..), Frank gives him a weird look, and once they finally reach his house, he tells Karl he doesn't seem like the type of guy to kill people.
Frank then switches the subject, asking Karl if he can play football, to which Karl says he isn't very good because he wasn't picked to play it much with the other kids when he was younger. Frank invites him to play with him and his friends sometime.
It starts getting late, and Karl, with no place to stay, goes back to the mental hospital. The administrator (Jerry Woolridge) tells him he cannot stay there, so he offers Karl a job at a repair shop, which allows him to get money for his own place (In theory)(He also specifically gets Karl a job at a repair shop because he’s really good at working on machinery). Karl says if he cannot stay at the mental hospital, then he will wander the streets all night and come back in the morning. Jerry takes him back to his own house that night so Karl has a place to rest. Karl doesn't sleep the whole night.
Random, but the car they drive to the repair shop the next day is so beautiful and so Abbacchio to me. ITS SPECIFICALLY A 1992 CHEVROLET CAPRICE EVERYONE (Yes, I went looking for the specific car)(Yes im crazy)
Karl starts working at the repair shop, and he's good at it! Yippie!! His boss (Bill Cox) also lets him sleep there. His boss and coworker (Scooter Hodges) are a little ableist towards him at first.. But overall, they are pretty chill to him.
(Wiped the salt off his french fries? Okay.)
After work, Karl goes back to Frank's house (The young boy,, you gotta remember him, he’s a main character,, all these next few characters mentioned are main characters, okay..) to play football.
Frank says he needs to stop by his mom's work to see her first, though. He tells Karl he could come with him and meet his mom,, Karl only agrees to go cause he wants to buy toothpaste from the store lol.
Big scene right here:
They pull up to the store where Frank's mama (Linda Wheatley, remember her, okay) is talking to her boss while restocking. Frank goes over to talk to them while Karl stays a little behind the group. Linda(Frank's mom) and her boss ask who the strange man behind them is, to which Frank says that's his buddy Karl, who helped him with the laundry the other day.
Karl briefly introduces himself, and Linda pulls Frank off to the side to talk to him alone. Karl stays back with Linda’s boss (I think his name was Donnie??? something like that)(uhm I'm crazy and way off, it's Vaughan Cunningham)(To be fair, they all had very heavy accents and there were no captions sooo…) and they start some small talk.
Vaughan (Linda’s boss) is confused because Karl told him he was born and raised here, but he's never been inside this store before, which has been around for 17 years now. Karl then tells him he was in the mental hospital, but not what for– just as Frank and his mom come back.
Frank excuses himself and Karl to continue shopping, while Vaughan and Linda talk about Karl. Linda calls him retarded, and Vaughan tells her he was in the mental hospital. He says he's worried about Karl hanging around Frank (Even though he doesn't even know he's killed people..), to which Linda says it's okay, that he needs some sort of father figure since his own dad had killed himself.
(Not really important, but this makes Vaughan a little upset, ‘he doesn't see me as a father figure??’ and Linda is like ‘girl u gay’) OH BUT YK WHAT IS IMPORTANT, during this scene, after Frank and Linda talk alone, they say that Karl can stay at their house with them.
End of big scene, but this is when shit starts getting more real:
With their candy and soda(and Karls toothpaste), Frank takes Karl to a creek (A spot that will be brought up again), and they both start trauma dumping basically lol. They talk a whole lot about death. Karl tells Frank his mom is dead, but won't tell him how his mother died; he says he's too innocent, and a young boy like him shouldn't have to think about bad things.
Frank also mentions the man his mom is dating (Doyle Hargraves), and he's an asshole who beats on Linda and is just plain rude to her and Frank.
OKAY THE BOSS IS ACTUALLY GAY I KNEW IT. (Real live Noelle reaction) FRANK SAYS, IN REF TO VAUGHAN, “He's not funny-haha, he’s funny-queer. He likes to go with men instead of women..” He's not like homophobic tho,, I don't really think he knows what that really is anyway, but that doesn't matter because, after that, he says Vaughan’s a real nice guy, and he wishes that he could be his mama's boyfriend, if he were straight. This convo just basically shows that Vaughan is a nice guy who really looks out for Frank and his mom; he's obviously very close with the family.
They say retard so much in this movie.. Okay, I fucking hate Doyle, don't call Vaughan a fag, he's nicer to ur girl than you are. WHY IS. OH MY GOOOOD. Doyle sucks. (Big fan of this reaction)(This scene, btw, was basically just showing Linda, Doyle, and Frank in their house before Karl and Vaughan show up)
Karl and Vaughan pull up to Frank's house. (also this is important: while they are waiting outside Frank’s, Vaughan tells Karl he’d like to talk to him over lunch sometime, and tells him he’ll pick him up from work the next day.)
Vaughan is there to take out Linda to ice cream,, but uhm ofc when he comes inside, Doyle has to call him a fag for like 5 mins straight before Linda and him leave. Then Doyle spends a good 5 mins calling Karl a retard and Frank a pussy before sending them both off to the garage, which would be where Karl would stay while living with Frank and Linda.
Karl and Frank have a cutie little moment in the garage. Frank is pissed at Doyle and says he wants to kill him. Karl tells him to stop thinking that way and distracts him with some crackers and spread. They make silly jokes and giggle.
The next day, Vaughan and Karl are having lunch together. Karl eats his fries with mustard…. (That's beautiful.) Vaughan is basically like, ‘okay, we're the same because the world hates us because we're different… you've got.. some mental issues and im gay..’ and Karl doesnt respond so Vaughan is like, “do you know what gay is?” and Karl says “not funny-haha, funny-queer” and Vaughan’s like, ‘okay maybe lets not say that….’
Vaughan then tells him, after all that, that Doyle is a very dangerous and bad man, and that it will be hard living at Linda's with him around. Vaughan fears that one day Doyle will kill Linda. Vaughan calls Karl a “gentle, simple man,” (so sweet,,,,) and then asks him if he'd ever hurt Frank or Linda, and Karl says no.
Vaughan also, during this scene, tells Karl he seems like he always has a lot on his mind, he asks what he’s thinking about, and Karl just starts talking about food lol.
Random, but should mention, Frank mentions this a lot, but he really likes the way Karl talks. He says he sounds like a race car starting up (He hums a lot while talking)
Another big scene:
It cuts to later that night, the family having dinner (Linda, Frank, and Doyle, no Karl,, he's in the garage). Doyle calls up his friends to party, which makes Linda and Frank mad.
Doyle’s friends come over, party outside, they get drunk, and then they invite Karl and Vaughan (He kinda just showed up at some point,, assuming Linda called him up for company) to come drink with them more inside,, repetitively… so much so that Vaughan gets so pissed he gets up and goes with them, just so they’ll shut up, and Karl follows.
Doyle’s like blacked out drunk at this point, screaming and breaking things. One of his friends says something, and Doyle gets pissed (It's really stupid, too; I can’t even remember what he was mad at). He kicks all his friends out, but Karl and Vaughan stay seated. He screams at them to get out too, but Linda and Frank step in before either of them can get up.
Linda tells Doyle to get out of her house and go sleep with one of his other girls (He's a bitch). They start arguing back and forth, and Linda mentions leaving him. Doyle gets super pissed and threatens to kill her if she ever tries to leave (Everyone else is witnessing this, btw).
Linda pushes Doyle towards the door, and he slams her into the wall behind her. Frank starts throwing things at him while screaming, keeping him down on the floor. Eventually, Doyle leaves…
End of big scene…
Karl repeats a lot of the same things. He also copies the things people say. Omg, also he loves just everything covered in mustard, I get this guy. (Yummy random thoughts that have to go somewhere)
Karl tells Linda why he was in the mental hospital while she makes biscuits for him.
The next day, they have dinner at Vaughan’s house. (Frank, Linda, Karl, Vaughan's bf, and Melinda,, who works at the same store as Linda and Vaughan)(idk Melinda’s not really important, you can kinda forget about her) Vaughan and Linda try setting up Karl and Melinda together during the whole dinner, and they eventually go on a walk alone together afterwards. (They also only set them up together because they’re both autistic…)
The next day, Melinda brings Karl flowers while he's at work :) very sweet. (and shes never brought up again lol)
Karl goes back to Frank’s after work, and they go down to the creek again to trauma dump (a recurring thing).
When Karl and Frank go back to the house, Doyle’s there, trying to apologize to Linda. He makes Frank and Karl sit down, and he apologizes to Frank, too, but not Karl, even though he’s been nothing but rude to him too.
Then he goes on to say he only got so mad because Linda is friends with a faggot, her son's a pussy, and they invited a retard to live with them (fuck this guy), and then he tried to laugh it all off??? 🙄
Karl and Frank finally play football together, and it's very sweet. Loving the father-son dynamic here :)
In the next scene, Karl goes back to his childhood home. His father is there, but doesn't talk to Karl much; he tells him he's not his son. Before he leaves his childhood home, he stops at his brother's grave to pay respect (he had to bury his brother alive at a young age)(his father had told him to, the baby was born too early)
(This is mentioned during one of the times Karl and Frank are trauma dumping at the creek, but I just wasn’t sure how to mention it while documenting that scene, nor did I know it’d be brought up again.)
In the next scene, Karl gets baptized.
Very, very important next few scenes (The end is near…….):
After that, they all go back to Frank's house. Linda goes out to get food, leaving Doyle, Karl, and Frank alone. Doyle makes them sit down and starts telling Frank about how he runs things in this house now that Linda has accepted his apology (Definitely out of fear), and that Karl can't live with them.
Frank is obviously upset and talks back, so Doyle tries to hit him. Karl immediately defends him though. Then Frank runs out of the house. Doyle kicks Karl's shoes, telling him to leave, while ofc calling him slurs.
Karl has a very sweet heart-to-heart with Linda, whom he catches outside coming back home with food :( He tells her she's an amazing mother and person, and it’s one of the first times we really see Karl speak what's on his mind fully.
Karl and Frank have a sweet heart-to-heart moment at their spot :( Karl gives Frank all his books. Karl tells Frank not to go home that night……………
No. (Yk where this is going…)
Side hug, most contact we see Karl give someone :( Karl tells Frank he loves him :( Frank says he loves him too :( Frank pulls out a bookmark from one of the books Karl gave him. It says ‘you will be happy.’ Frank calls out to him, but Karl doesn't reply…….
Karl meets up with Vaughan next and tells him to let Linda and Frank stay over at his house that evening. He also gives Vaughan all the money he's made while working, telling him to give it to Linda. He then tells Vaughan that even though he's gay, he doesn't believe anyone like him should ever go to hell :( He then tells him to take care of Frank. Vaughan calls out for him, but he doesn't reply……..
Karl sneaks into Frank's house that night with a large weapon (A lawn mower blade)………………. He finds Doyle in the living room alone……… Doyle tells him he can't stay here anymore, a few times….Karl asks Doyle how to phone the police….Doyle tells him, ‘911……..’ He asks Karl why he has the blade… Karl says, “I aim to kill you with it.”
Karl strikes him twice with the blade, calls the police on himself, then eats a biscuit covered in mustard.
It cuts back to the mental hospital; it's an exact parallel of the first scene. The same side character from the beginning is talking to Karl, now asking him how the outside world was. Karl says the world is too big; he also mentions Frank. The side character with him asks if he killed Frank, which makes Karl really mad, and he tells the guy to leave him alone, that he's done listening to him.
The freaking end.
I feel like I still have so many questions, but I don’t really feel like doing any further research than I’ve already done. I hope someone reads this and enjoys this :3 (also just wanna say I didnt include every scene and detail so if ur interested I definitely recommend watching it on ur own :3) I already have another post in progress on how this movie relates to Abbacchio, why he’d like it, the other gang members' opinions on it, and such,, so just wait!!! Hi Fern, ik u read this :3
