Here is a list of things I found interesting/Silly/Amusing from the Sonic Bible. Note there are 3 different Sonic Bible docs. So not all of these are from the same version. The versions in order from hoe they were made from what I can tell are Sonic Bible, Sonic Bible draft 1, Sonic Bible draft 2.
1. Sonic was from Hardly, Nebraska at one point.
2. Sonic was the youngest of 6 kids and had 5 sisters!!! None were named in the doc, but my brain went we've only seen 2 of his sisters. Sonia from underground and Tania from the early manga. I now wish to draw Sonic with his 5 missing sisters and that means I have to figure out who the other 3 are.
3. Sonic's dad died when sonic was a few days old. Making his mom 🎶 a single mom who works two jobs. 🎵 Also the family is poor, but happy.
4. Sonic and his family live in the hedge next to the local burger joint, living off scraps of burgers, milkshake, and the occasional meal work that comes by.
5. Sonic learned to read and write from kids at the local playground sandbox because he would give the kids his quills so they could draw pictures in the sand.
6. Sonic would just chill with the old ladies quilting circle and listen to them gossip. He would let them use his quills as pins for their quilting. I wish to draw this now with Vector being upset at the little old ladies in the background. I know Vector is mostly mad at the bingo ladies, but maybe the old ladies quilt on Tuesdays and play bingo on Wednesday.
7. Sonic was recruited for the local track team when the track coach, leaving the burger joint one night, sees Sonic running from one end of the hedge to the other at night. Sonic was practicing cause dead dad was "Fastest hedge runner in town" according to his mom.
8. All of that is in Sonic's 1st year of life and Sonic's mom says he has to hibernate for winter. She's worried if he doesn't, it'll stunt his growth.
9. Dr. Kintobor wakes Sonic up from hibernation looking for the grey emerald. In other versions, Sonic enters Dr. Kintobor's base while spinning through tunnels and exploring.
10. Sonic looked up to Dr. Kintobor as a father figure. His smile reminded him of the photo of his dead dad.
11. Government pulled funding from Dr. Kintobor's team researching how to purify and help the world. The other scientists on the team either took lucrative jobs or went mad. Dr. Kintobor stole the whole lab (lock, stock, and barrel) and moved it underneath an old toxic waste dumping site. Cause the government wasn't going to expect a man trying to fix the world to be here. 🤷🏻♀️ Either way, this makes Dr. Kintobor a criminal. A well meaning one, but a criminal none the less.
12. Next to the text about Sonic leaning to squawk to wake up his friends, there is a hand written note asking if Sonic makes noise.
13. Even though all versions have Sonic being born greyish brown and becoming blue from running at the speed of sound (760 mph), there are 2 handwritten notes at different points in the draft 1 version stating Sonic should be born blue.
14. Sonic's animal friends don't get names until Draft 2 version. The "latest" version of the Bible we have access to. These include Sally Acorn, Johnny Lightfoot, and Porker Lewis. This makes me think the Fleetway team was working off a Sonic Bible draft from around this time. Other friends was Chirps the chicken, Flicky, Joe Sushi (walrus), and Tux the penguin.
15. Joe Sushi is becoming a bit of an obsession to me. I think it's because Joe and walrus makes me think of Digimon Adventure where his digimon at one stage becomes a walrus. I think there might have been an attack referencing Sushi in the American dub.
16. Flicky in draft 1 is called "the Duck", by draft 2, Flicky is "the Bluebird". All one word. I'm guessing Flicky looked duck like in some of the art? I'm not sure, but intrigued by this.
17. The Sonic the Hedgehog logo must be 3x bigger than the logo of the other company (manufacturer) on any and all packaging. Said logos must be far enough apart (15% space difference) so as not being confused as being the same thing.
18. The manufacturer information (address, phone number, year, etc) should be clear and legible on the packaging and can be bigger than that Sonic copyright Sega message.
19. Draft 2 has a list of Pantone colors that can be used for Sonic and Robotnik. I'm curious about the note of the four tone colors mentioned to be okay for substitutions. I don't know much about how printing packaging worked back in the day. I wish to watch documentaries and read more about it.
20. By the text about Sonic and Dr. Kintobor becoming friends, there is a handwritten note that just says, "WHY?"
