HAPPY 20TH BIRTHDAY DUDE!!! Just want to say that you're an amazing person, a fantastic artist, and a really fun person to talk to! Really, really glad to have met you and to be able to share all this fun sh*t with you! (I'm a writer, why is my vocab so limited)

Sunlight filtered through the wooden planks of the treehouse, shining tiny spotlights on an unusually empty bed.
The owner was in the middle of the room, crouched on the floor. Khro'a whistled as he fixed his travel packs. Today was going to be uneventful, but he'd decided to go flying—didn't know where to, exactly. Khro'a would decide on the way.
He'd just tied up the last pack when he heard an ikran cry. Weird—that wasn't his, though. It cried again, sounding much closer to the treehouse this time. Khro'a had a second to recognize that particular call when—
"INCOMING!!"
Something crashed straight into Khro'a. It knocked out almost all the air inside of him, and, had he not been bigger than the intruder, they would've crushed him.
"Ay, puta—you were fucking right under it! Sorry!"
Khro'a felt himself get yanked up onto his feet, then into a tight embrace. From over the person's head, he processed first the rapidly swishing tail, then the triple braids—one black, two an unnatural purple.
Noah was jumping on their toes as they exclaimed, "Happy birthday, Khro'a!!"
Excitement rose like magma in his chest at the realization. Khro'a grinned and hugged them back. "Noah! I thought you wouldn't be back until a few more weeks?"
Noah pulled away to look up at Khro'a, and their arms went from his waist to his hands. "And fucking miss your birthday," they scoffed playfully, "You think I'm gonna be stupid like that? Of course, I was gonna come home early!"
Finally, confusion arose as well, and Khro'a asked, "How is it my birthday—wait, how are you keeping track of this?"
Fangs bared, Noah giggled through their teeth. "Well, it's been exactly one Pandoran year since you got transferred to your Avatar by Eywa. I did the math some time ago, and turns out your terran birthday happens to fall on the same day this year," they explained, "So, technically, two birthdays!"
It took a few seconds for Khro'a to process, and he chuckled as he did.
Noah cocked their head to the side. "What's so funny?"
"Nothing, it's just," he stifled a laugh, "You really counted all that?"
"What, like it's supposed to be hard?"
Khro'a couldn't hold it in anymore, the affectionate laugh he was caging in his chest. "Spoken like a true nerd."
Noah slapped him on the chest. Their lips scrunched into a pout. "Gago, it's simple fucking math!" Then, infected by Khro'a, they started laughing, too. "Of course, I've been counting. It's your birthday, after all. I keep track of everyone else's, too."
Khro'a let his laughter dwindle down first. "So, it's been a year, huh," he mused. Then, he looked back down at Noah. Their bright eyes looked up at him curiously, waiting on his words. He sighed contentedly, "Thank you, Noah."
Noah's lips curled into a softer, still toothy smile. A little chuckle wisped through them as they pulled Khro'a in for another hug. It said everything that couldn't be put into words.
The moment passed in comfortable silence until Noah spoke up. "Oh, also, I stopped by the village, and I told the entire village and the other RDA people. They're all waiting for you at High Camp."
Khro'a sighed, placing a hand on their head. "Of course you did."
"But you seem to have plans." Noah peeked behind him from under his arm. "Going somewhere?"
"Meh, I wasn't really planning on it," Khro'a shrugged, "I was just bored, so it's a 'wherever the wind takes me' kind of plan."
The reaction to that was somewhat violent, as Noah pulled away only to grip Khro'a's arms, eyes glinting with excitement. Their tail was whipping like a tornado behind them. Teeth that bit down on their lower lip caged their words flimsily. Khro'a had a feeling he knew what those were.
"Go on. What is it?"
"Can I come with you," Noah asked giddily, like a child, "It's been months since we went somewhere together!"
"I don't know~ Didn't you say there are people waiting at High Camp?"
"Yes, and we can go after that! C'mon, don't fuck with me, Khro'a."
Some things just never change, he thought. Then, Khro'a smiled. "Alright, but I really had no plans of where to go. Do you?"
"'Wherever the wind takes us' sounds like a good plan. Now, come on! I'll help you with your things."
Khro'a perked up as if a switch had been flipped in his head. "Wait, Noah, you've been travelling all night—have you had any sleep?"
"Shhh! That's not your problem to deal with, okay?"
"That's not my po—Noah!!"
Too late. They grabbed two of the biggest bags in their hand, jumped up onto a large branch—an exposed structural beam of sorts for the treehouse—then flung themselves through the roof chute. They looked down at Khro'a, jerking their head as if to hurry him up. Fortunately, he'd already followed suit.
Khro'a emerged through the chute mere seconds after Noah did, throwing the other two bags onto the roof as he pushed himself up. With his tail, he flipped the chute door shut. Khro'a put his arm out just in time as he saw a familiar stingbat coming to land on him.
"Hey, Kev!" Khro'a chuckled as the stingbat pecked him affectionately. It shrieked as he scritched its neck. He dug a fruit from one of his bags and gave it to Kev. It cawed gratefully as it flew back to hover over its owner.
Then, the two avatars mounted their ikrans, but before they took off—
"Oh, and Khro'a?"
He turned to them innocently. What he saw was a figure cast in the morning light and a delicate smile. Noah's gaze softened as their eyes met.
"Happy birthday ulit." Their eyes smiled, too, pushing a few tears through the corners. "Thanks for everything. I'll never forget any of it."

Khro’a lands in the forest with his ikran safely. Just a 10 minute walk away from Akaru’s clan. “Thanks, T’sa. I’ll be back later. Go have fun!” Khro'a tosses a fish bait into the air, and his Ikran flawlessly catches it. His ikran shrieks back at Khro'a before taking off into the sky. looking for a place to wait in the mountains while its rider is away.
As usual, Tunwi and Akaru were already on their way to meet him early. Khro’a carries his stuff on his back and starts walking down their usual path. Suddenly, Khro'a hears rustling in the bushes behind him, and he hastily draws his knife as it is the only weapon he has on him- “Shit. What now??” he muttered to himself.
“Kroi!”
In the distance, a man's voice yelled out his name. "’s that you, Kroi?!”
Khro'a's ears perked up in response. The voice doesn't seem familiar to him, so how could they know about his human name?
Khro'a adjusts his stance, more cautious than ever. No one else would have known about his human name because he was very private about his past. Only a handful would truly still recall that name, and he’d like to keep it that way.
Ant's arm pushes a huge leaf out of the way of his path, and his eyes meet Khro'a's. Khro’a is a little confused seeing the man as he felt a sense of familiarity- while also still being weary as he noticed, it’s another recom…
“Kr-”
Ant, the recom, hears something shoot past his right ear and only manages to dodge it at the last second. Ant notices a trickle of warm blood running down his cheek-
He quickly grabs his ear and snaps his head behind him to find an arrow in a tree.
“KHRO'A! " Akaru yells in the opposite direction.
Khro’a and Ant turn around to see Akaru and Tunwi riding a thanator as Akaru begins drawing her bow again. “GET DOWN!”
Khro'a does what she says without hesitation, but Ant is quick to react—he tackles Khro'a on the ground, dodging Akaru's arrow once more.
Ant tries to put Khro'a in a headlock, but the latter responds quickly and wraps his strong legs around Ant's head, yanking his arm away. Ant grunts in reaction, attempting to break free from Khro'a's grip before using all of his strength and adrenaline to lift Khro'a's whole weight off the ground, on one arm. Khro'a regrets it after realizing how much bigger and stronger Ant was than him.
He yelped as his body was slammed against the other side of the ground. Khro'a's grasp loosens, and Ant quickly gets behind Khro'a, seizing the latter's knife and pointing it at Khro'a's throat. "PUT YOUR WEAPONS DOWN!" Ant exclaimed.
Tunwi's thanator roars at the recom before she softly pats it on the neck to calm it down. "M-mawey Lawr...!" *C-Calm down, Lawr…!
Even so, the female na'vi sitting behind the rider, hesitates to lower her bow.
“PUT IT DOWN! NOW! '' Ant yells at her, bringing the knife closer to Khro'a's neck while the latter struggles. Akaru hisses fiercely at him, making Ant slightly intimidated by her.
Ant gets a little distracted by the two female na’vis ganging up on him. He assumes it's Kroi's (khro'a) friends since one of them called out "his name," and he reacted immediately.
Does he go by a different name now? What was it? Krowah?
Khro’a recklessly head bumps his chin HARD. Making Ant step back from the impact. “FUCK- KROI-!! ”
“Khro’a!!" Tunwi exclaimed in surprise.
Ah, “khro’a.”
Khro'a slips Ant's grasp and hurries to Akaru and Tunwi, rubbing his aching head. Akaru's face softens as she pats Khro'a's arm and tells him to climb on the thanator so they can escape quickly. But Khro'a pauses for a moment and returns his gaze to the recom, still trying to figure out who that man is and why he looks and feels so familiar...
(in na’vi) “Uhh- Who is he?!”
asked Tunwi who was clearly starting to panic, Akaru also asking the same question but she remained silent. The recom was clearly aiming for Khro’a and Khro’a only. He also had a gun with him the entire time...but he never used it? Why? Why’s he after me? Khro'a asks himself, still not sure what this guy's business is...
He takes another moment before finally recognizing the bleeding recom.
"-Holy crap..?? ”
Ant regains his balance and grunts as he wipes the blood from his nose.

quick summary of their story so far tho: Mansk survives the events of Avatar 2 and is found and imprisoned by Khro’a and the others. Khro’a and Mansk get closer etc. neytiri jake moment buT mansk still betrays khro’a in the end and gets rescued by the rda cause angst is yummy LMAOO 🤪 🤪 🤪 ❤️ ❤️they also obv like each other but wont admit it ha h a

BETRAYAL
Khro’a had expected this. He had told himself that he would prepare for the worst case scenario. Yet when the worst had arrived, he was full of uncontrollable anger and also…something else he dared not to admit-
He was heartbroken. As ridiculous as it sounds, he has become fond of the mysterious and silent man. Khro'a thought he saw more in him than simply another dangerous recom warrior but I guess he thought wrong.
Memories of them getting closer and even almost knowing each other to a really personal level, flashed through his mind as he stood there in the middle of the burning forest as everyone’s frantically trying to escape the sky people’s attacks.
Mansk stands next to Lyle Wainfleet across the chaos from where Khro’a is at. They were far from each other but not far enough to see where both of them were standing.
“Good work, Mansk!” Lyle shouts, patting Mansk on the shoulder to make sure he heard him over all the loud noises of gunshots firing and crackling wood in the fire.
“Lets get you the fuck out of here.”
Before they leave, Mansk and Khro’a make eye contact. Khro’a, doing his best not to get swayed by his emotions, stops himself from running headfirst towards the man to finish him in one go with his blades. All he could do was hiss back angrily at their direction as hot tears streamed down his face. If only he had been carrying his gun, he would have already shot Mansk by this point. You could only see a mixture of disappointment, rage, and despair on Khro'a's face at that moment.
Mansk witnessed everything. But he held a blank expression.
At least that's what Khro'a, whose vision was already a little fuzzy, could see.
Even though a lot of things happened so quickly, everything still seemed to move slowly.
Mansk still looking at Khro’a’s expressions and taking it all in, Its clear to see that he had completely broken his “friend’s” trust. Khro'a claims he never trusted Mansk, but Mansk didn't buy it because he could generally read Khro'a right away. Mansk was aware that Khro'a had some faith in him and hoped, deep down in his mind and heart, that this wouldn't happen.
The two took a second after khro’a looks away and immediately helps out other na’vis escape as they run deep into the woods, away from the sky people.
Mansk turns his back from the forest and finally follows Lyle, who was standing by one of the RDA's gunships for him.
“Everything is a part of the mission. It's what I have to do as a recom soldier." Mansk quietly reminds himself the most basic cliche ass shit ever. (SorryLMAO)
These kinds of situations don't allow for feelings. You must be an absolute fool if you fall for any of that nonsense.
Khro'a and Mansk knew that very well. They shouldn't get involved, so they never expected anything to happen between them.
So why does it still hurt a little even when you expected THIS to happen? Why hope that things might change at all?
